Originally each faction was built around a core theme (like Belobog being construction workers, Victoria Housekeeping being maids/butlers but also based off of classic horror monsters, etc.). Now, they design characters with zero consideration for any of this, seemingly attempting to just focus on creating a design they think will sell, rather than an actual good design that looks like it belongs in the faction or even the setting itself.You see this problem with their other games, mainly HSR, where you had a setting based off of ancient Greece, yet only 3 of the characters actually look even vaguely Greek (being the first 3 characters of the region). Hoyo always defaults to what I call a slop design formula, where eventually all their characters just start to look the same, start to lack any identity of coherency with the setting they're apart of. Because Hoyo has an idea of what kind of design sells, and they innevitably just end up defaulting to said design archetype because it's "safe" and sells. Why take a risk (like they did in the beginning of ZZZ) on a unique design even if it's objectively better and actually fits the setting/faction when they could pump out safe slop designs that they know (or at least think, as you can see 2.x characters aren't selling except VHs) will sell? And for ZZZ, a "safe" design is a design solely focused around being goonery. Except they can't commit to the gooner part because they're slaves to the CCP so they alwyays end up censoring their designs (see Jane's skin, Cissia who has the same skirt/shorts ruining the Leotard, Promeia's tummy,etc.)

I look at all these crit damage, pen ratio, elemental boost, anomaly numbers, and find myself at a loss. Because I can't tell how big of a damage boost any of those would be for a given character. Because bosses have wildly different defense and resistance values, and none of those are available to see in-game. And even if they were, there's no telling how much of a difference an abstract defense number would make, because you don't know if it's additive or multiplicative, and scales linearly or logarithmically. The system too opaque to make any kind of informed decision.And that's a shame, because the Agent skill descriptions are so comprehensive and pay a lot of attention to details. But then when you pick disc sets, the UI does not even display the set bonus buff duration or stacks. Something so basic. At this point I'm tempted to just look up a damage formula and write my own damage calculator. But then again, it'd be hard without knowing for sure, say, how big of a portion is direct damage of an Agent, compared to Anomaly procs.How do you guys build your characters in a situation when the game obscures so much information from the player?Inb4 I just follow a guide, or I just M6, so I don't need to optimize.

>>562298358I usually do my research on how stats work first, but... on games like these (Hoyogames), I just focus on getting the best I can in terms of overall stats combinations unless there is a stat that's clearly more important than the others.I would focus first on things that are clear improvements, like skill levels and cores.After that it would be stat conditionals (like how Dialyn wants 100% crit).And finally I just pick the discs that have the best substat combinations, regardless of which main stat it has (ele%, atk% or pen%) as long as it works for the agent, but do try to balance at least the 1:2 CR to CD ratio the best I can.
