The problem with Beatbreak is that it literally has no sense of adventure. On top of that it doesn't try to make you care about its characters. No one is interested in Hotaruko, they just use her for the self insert fantasy of being a little boy molested by a grown woman. The story doesn't try to explore this concept of reformed cruel agents, it just skips that part because digimon series have obligatory "bad" tamers who must turn around and become backup for the main heroes. There is nothing interesting about Reina. Everyone who talks about her just wants to fuck her. She's a fine a dozen tsundere with no unique spin on the concept. Even Sora was more compelling. Makoto is just some nice kid who's a little complacent. Utterly boring. The girl with the Shademon was much more interesting and she disappears after her mini arc. Clay is a terrible villain. Just another green goblin. A psychopath with vague political statements that are really just an excuse for him to cause terror and havok.This series brought human trafficking into the plot and then specifically pointed it out for no other reason than to say "Look how intense and dark this world is! This isn't safe and cuddly like Pokemon" and even has one of the characters accidentally kill a humanlike digimon AFTER establishing that killing digimon is especially cruel and they just....don't explore it. It's just darkness for the sake of being dark. If I wanted that I'd play Sonic 06.
