Marathon would be good if it had the feel of a slick sci-fi FPS with tight gunplay, strong abilities, and a rewarding loot grind.Basically: responsive shooting, flashy powers, lots of build variety, and a loop of doing missions to get better gear so you can do harder missions for even better gear. When I load up into a map it tells me where everything and everyone is. This way I can focus on doing my PVE stuff and completely avoid other players. Just get to the closest POI (or just thing to hide behind) and sit for 3 minutes. People will get to a POI and listen for footsteps/noises first, then if seemingly nobody's around they'll start looting, which is your chance to either follow and take scraps or catch them by surprise. If it's Dire Marsh sprint to the closest POI and get inside because people know the spawn points and will try to kill you in the first 20 seconds.The knife is surprisingly powerful, leveling Arachne for the melee buffs eventually gets to the point where you can kill even purple/gold shields in two right click stabs. At the start though left click spam is probably the way to go until you get comfortable with what you can kill in one hit with a right click.If you're trying to progress priority contracts, the two ways to do them with free kits are to just instantly sprint at your objectives until you eventually get lucky and don't die, or wait until there's only like 3-5 minutes left and everyone else is gone and then go do it, which is fuckin boring but fairly reliable.There's a final exfil you don't have to activate that spawns when the timer hits 0, gives you 60 seconds to reach, and most the time isn't contested, it will generally spawn somewhere near the middle of the map, it's a reliable way to get out once you know your way around a bit.You sprint faster with your knife out.Rushing CyAc/MIDA rep is generally the best start, as heat capacity/agility are kind of baseline 'feels good to play' upgrades that should have just been baked in.good on you for being a good friend the game can be enjoyable even if the start 100% sucks, hope it eventually is okay for you

After observing for a while you notice it's a team of snipers camping on top of uplink and they are not moving. You have one sniper between the both of you. I had a bad PvP experience while playing rook, and it’s changed my outlook on exfilling as rook. I had a decent night on outpost of just running to final exfil, always by myself, safe exfil, just had to wait out the clock.Eventually I had a final exfil with a team of purple shields. They jumped on prox chat, told me they saw me and they’d let me exfil if I didn’t do anything stupid (like attack or whatevs), and I went on prox chat just saying I’ve got green salvage, just levelling up factions, I’m not here to attack anyone.So I jump in the exfil circle, 8 seconds left. And boom one of the teammates shotties me point blank and downs me. Ok, I get it, I made the assumption “ok you down me so I can’t fight back but I can exfil”… then buddy just kills me with 3 seconds left lol.No big deal desu it’s a rook run, I didn’t have anything coming in so it’s no loss to me. But the night goes on, and I eventually have a very similar situation, this time 2 purple shields and blue. Very similar conversation on prox but these dudes sounded way more friendly and less hostile. I walked up and stood on a box beside the exfil circle.Then I decided to throw as many throwables as I could into exfil circle when it started. Downed all 3, but only killed 2 with a bully and one got away.I will be doing this from now on. The community has proven to me that enjoying this game how I want is not an option. I throw a grenade. It breaks the enemy Vandal's shields, then I get downed by them all blind firing into the room. My squaddie is still hiding in a stall. They come in, he chucks grenades and knifes them all, then trades on the last guy. They're all downed, but my teammate is the only one out of all of them with a fucking revive. Some of the guns are fucking awesome too, like the Verso and Heritage gun. The biggest problem it largely has is that some of the options you have available for a single loop before reset makes challenge runs kind of weird, as you usually don't have time to grab the kind of shit you actually want in a single loop which makes the game feel like it's solely designed around Residuum and the Infusion system, which is a bummer as there are some pretty cool runs you can do without doing any infusions for a single loop.

I played deathloop last february so it's fresh in my mind. The game is good. the curve of difficulty drops off heavily because of infusion but invasions allows for upsets in that comfort. I heard that some people don't like the linearity of the game, wanted more end game loops but I fail to see how that would elevate the experience over the amount of work it takes to develop. I wanted more interesting set pieces for sure. Only good one was the radio guy and that failed in execution, really all the visionaries should had felt more like bosses. Story was good but generally predictable, every character was enjoyable. 7/10.

The funnest I ever had in this game was playing destroyer so i could turbo sprint and the enemy team with my riot shield deployed, before i would thruster into them with my shot gun and knife at the ready. Ive never played Rook until level 44 right now and I walked out of outpost with an 8k haul. The fucking money grind for solos is soul suckingly bad but one piece of shit skilless rook can make as much as I find in a whole play session but in a single run. I fucking hate how bad this game is balanced. All it revolves around is trios. As a rook you don't even have to kill anyone, just mop up the body bag juice that no one else was willing to carry. Blue shields just lying on the ground in trio lobbies and in my solo career I only found a single one, and I had to kill that fucker with free shit.God damn I wish they would actually shut this entire thing down for a few months just to adjust the balance and solo offerings.
