Both players have no real mix other than strike/throw and a slow overhead that doesn't lead to anything. Knockdowns barely give you oki and things like cr.mk into fireball don't even knockdown so you're always returning to neutral. High pushback on defense also means pressure is short and you again return to neutral. Combos are also usually short. So you have a match where you spend most of your time playing neutral, and if you're getting pressured just block and the worst that can happen is a throw. That's honesty, but it was never the case that the games themselves were honest. In contrast, dishonest was something like the average Marvel or Xrd match, where whoever hits the other guy first puts them into the corner into looping oki where they're constantly having to guess left/right/high/low/throw while a fireball sits on top of them, and guessing right means it's your turn to do it to the other guy instead.

From design and direction perspective this patch is showcase how they finally realized that Strive is not a Guilty Gear game and never will be and trying to make it one just made it worse. Their slow realization of that with dropping pretentious legacy shit with DP RC,reworking burst and such were signs of that and this is final result. Loses the CH property, 10% damage bonus and increased massively the recovery, the block disadvantage on top of being now CH state during recovery.I feel like there might have been lots of situation where Sol could mash dp on whatever gap and avoid big punishes due to pushback or else, now I don't see a scenario where a blocked or whiff dp isn't a garanteed cS 50% health punish.

Counter Blitz is exactly what one of these universal mechanics should be, its a button for casual players that will have very niche use in actual gameplay. hypercasuals will press the button and go WAOW COUNTAH BURITZO and do like a third of the damage they could have, while the only real application of it is going to be getting some damage off of a max range counterhit that you know you're going to get a shitty conversion off of, and even then it might not be worth it if you're not at the corner.Funnily, it really is fixed wild assault in that way.
