Need feedback on a mechanic. After you die, for each boss slain you get a signature permanent boost from his exclusive pool. You can reroll them and get another from his pool, but you potentially get up to 10 boosts at once. Do you find this mechanic interesting or confusing? I could have the player choose only one from this list, and make them 10x more powerful, but this will introduce an asymmetry: to get 10 boosts right now you need to reach wave 1000, but with this change a wave 100, while limiting your choice to the first boss pool, will grant you the same amount of boosts as a wave 1000 run, just from a smaller pool. What do?
>>562938746>Need feedback on a mechanic. After you dielet me stop you right there. after you die, you should be returned to the main menu.
>>562938746Reroll but decrease rewards by 1 every time you do, give rewards that offer asymmetrical bonuses that are fantastic in some combinations but terrible in others. For example:>fixed damage reduction and decreased % hp.>free upgrade guarantee but reduced number>large % damage increase but reduced attack speed or equivalent>option to delete existing upgrade

>>562939717It takes around 2 years of dedication to become great at most things if you are capable. Usually someone is not really applying themselves or just passively absorbing knowledge and are really quite subpar, but something happens and they find the spark. And in that 2 year timeframe they attain 95% of what they ever will accomplish. Now you can spend 17 years chasing that last 5% or you can try and find your spark. >>562944406i should have said the average medical doctor takes over a decade to get a medical license and practice medicine. your typical artist or programmer who is any good starts very young and grinds away at their craft because they enjoy it. you don't really mean to suggest that you can become good at all aspects of gamdev in two years when it takes highly talented people most of their youth to get good a singular skill? you will probably post pewdiepie as the lone expcetion.
>>562944931I think that some things are easier to learn just because it mirrors other activities in life and it's just as easy to say that so and so's fighting career started at age 4 because he was wrestling with his friends in the yard but that there's a clear distinction between the path to mastery and just doing something. Most people are just doing something, it's probably hard to just stumble across medicine in your every day life unless you have a habit of exhuming corpses and performing illegal autopsies so it takes longer to go from layman to journeyman if you aim to become a surgeon or an anaesthesiologist than going from doodling to being a painter. I'm not talking about being average and having no value I'm talking about the path to mastery, from personal experience and from reading or hearing about pretty much everyone that same time frame keeps coming up, about 2 years. The goal isn't to dissuade anyone but to show that the main difference is interest and dedication. Also if we're setting the bar at becoming a medical professional as opposed to a layman, a nurse would suffice which takes about 2 years. And isn't it true that nurses go to experts to get that last 5% bit of information and experience to get the approval to administer treatment that the average person requires?
>>562945849>from personal experience and from reading or hearing about pretty much everyone that same time frame keeps coming up, about 2 years.that's pretty anecodtal. where are the studies that showing the career trajectories of successful people follow a two-year period of rapid improvement? i'm not saying people like that don't exist but is it really typical?

I love linux so much i have a arch linux shirt and a tux sticker I need more linux things.
>>562944931i think going to school or being taught generally makes it quicker to learn anything because if you are just starting out you lack the fundamental knowledge of the field to even understand what you should be trying to learn.if a child picks up a pencil and doodles they don't even know "basic" concepts that most artists are aware of such as anatomy, perspective, linework, shading, etc. if decided to try to get better they would just draw more but they wouldn't make massive improvements quickly because they aren't practicing those specific things. vs someone who is aware of those things and directly practices them would make progress quicker and learn quicker. that's why being taught or tutored by a pro is valuable because they can give you direct tips on how to improve that you're not even aware of.

how long are you going to be expected to support your game?a couple of days ago Obsidian released an update with optional turn-based mode. this is a game that came out 11 years ago and last paid content/dlc came out 10 years ago and they're still updating it.I'd love to be able to work on my game like that but as soon as income dries up I'm on a countdown to make something I can sell or literally end up homeless.
>>562947446>one-step CAPTCHA gang representing
i'll say this: it's often cited that it takes 10,000 hours to master a single subject. assuming it only takes 1,000 to get to intermediate level, you need to multiply those 1,000 hours by the number of skills you need to learn (art, programming, music, level design, game design, etc.) assuming you are a solo dev, you could get to the level of a decent game dev in 5,000 hours which, at 8 hours per day, you would take a little under two years. realistically, with the level of discipline that your typical anon has, it would take wtice that long or longer to allow for all of the time wasted scrolling, masturbating, playing vidya etc. if you have a job, you might be looking at a decade.i understand why the two-year timeframe might be realistic for talented and disciplined people.
>>562946746That'd be a hard thing to track from objective criteria, you could equate skill with compensation but usually compensation comes after skill. But there are studies attempting to track time to proficiency which find that the onboarding process takes around 3-6 months with productivity being achieved after 1 year, a lot of people (like me) anecdotally see mastery (relative to the 6 month benchmark) achieved at around the 2 year mark.
>>562947883making it as a solo dev takes a lot of luck even with exceptional skills. spending all the time developing those skills doesn't meaningfully increase your chances. you're much better off having barely adequate skills but making more games.
>>562948005see this >>562947883i kind of a agree with you. i think five years or longer is probably realistic for undisciplined NEETs on this board.
>>562948205Yeah I also agree, that's why I think it's more important to find something that interests you enough to devote that time to your craft. Also consistency will beat out crunches every time unless you're consistently crunching.
>>5629481822000 hours + luck might work for some people but it takes a lot of luck to stand out in today's market.
>>562947536>how long are you going to be expected to support your game?depends on the type of game and of course the level of successsome games are clearly done once they're released while others are better suited for updatesI think gamers also understand on some level that a game that made no money usually won't get support though that doesn't mean they won't complain about it
>>562947883That's why you're supposed to build those skills while working on small games that take up a couple months at most. That way you get to develop the whole range of skills related to gamedev instead of just one or two sides of it. Even with that it's still a long road and most will never find success. If that idea makes you uncomfortable then quit while you're ahead and spend your time on something that makes steady money like a regular job.
>>562948709It's probably to be an Engineer and problem solver if you're gonna make a game for that reason, if you start thinking like an economist like:>well let's assume we have all of these things that can fix our problems>-ack!>uh, well actually it's just a prediction modelThen you end up like most artists and youtubedev channels, you can use your problem solving skills to engineer your other limitations away. An artist will think the most basic programming tasks are hard but a programmer can always doodle something for his roguelite/survivor/incremental sloppa
How do I go about getting a license for small IPs? I want to start making gacha games.
>>562948709i put all of my eggs in one basket and mostly just know how to code. if i can't learn the other skills i need to know in say the next five years i should just get a job at UPS or kms or something. 1,000 hours per subject sounds reasonable. if i learn each skill in sequence, i might start to get a sense of my general aptitude for learning. it took me an excessive amount of time to get just okay at programming so my expectations are low.
>>562949335>learn each skill in sequenceYou will learn cross-discipline skills for every skill you learn you'll be surprised how much you can scaffold from seemingly unrelated disciplines
>>562949791learning in parallel would be more sustainable, i would be less likely to burn out. i could probably manage more hours per day if i knew i only had to work on a subject i hate for two hours a day instead of eight.

I'm making a business game. You basically start multiple businesses to compete with other AI businesses. The businesses have multiple attributes you set. Like cost, quality, etc, and you're limited by money, so you can't just make everything perfect all the time. Is this game I'm describing an RPG? I'm trying to think about what genre this fits into. It's all stat based, no player mechanical skill. It's not a business sim in the sense you aren't stocking shelves. You're more like the CEO designing specs on new businesses.

Newbie here trying to make something easy in RPG Maker.I thought Undertale's art seemed simple enough so I tried to use that as a north star (to adapt it later). I had fun making the character sprites (they turned out pretty good), but when it came to making the world art it SUCKED. Everything looks flat and like kids drawings (which surprised me because Undertale does not seem to have that much shading). But anyway, does it matter the order I try to make things? That is, does it matter if I try to improve my art right now and make the game later? Or should I build the game first using assets and make the art afterwards?

what if the problem behind depression and lack of motivation is western culture? it's the common denominator in everything in your daily life.e.g. imagine how you'd feel if you'd spend all day just consuming animes and japanese video games and japanese porn.it might be related to the western mentality. because we hate collectivism, we are all about ourselves. so everything we produce is all about milking money from others. every product is made to use you and not to be used by you.this feeling of always "being used" might play a key role in depression and becoming asocial.but i'm not saying that japan is ideal. just saying that culture in general might be a problem for mental health.e.g. i once watched nothing but animes for 4 months and completely stopped consuming social media, and i yesdev'ed so hard in those months.when i watch a western tv show like breaking bad or so, it's addictive, but it makes me depressed. it's just so violent and depressing to watch. nothing is positive or uplifting. the only thing i can remember that kinda motivated me to enjoy life are Entourage and Two And A Half Men.and that's not even talking about feminist brainwashing and diversity slop.

i wonder about the importance of making yourself believe you are not gambling. where it isn't even important if it's actually gambling or not.basically you gotta find a pattern and then have some sort of belief in that pattern, which then fuels your motivation to make something, because the pattern convinced you it wont just be a dice roll.e.g. if you believe that all humans crave crafting and selling stuff. then making a game about that wont be a gamble, it'll be a logical decision to make a game like that because it will definitely sell.but it only works if you really believe in it. otherwise your brain will say "that's a gamble" again. and the problem with believing it's a gamble, is that gambling sucks when the dice roll costs too much time and energy.you can roll a dice thousands of times a day. but you can only roll like maybe 2 games a year.there might be people who really don't think about this at all and keep making games, but you can't copy them if you are an analytical type (i think its in the genes, especially white people with high iq).so you gotta form a pattern you believe in or your brain will refuse to do anything. if your brain wouldn't work like that, it'd cause all sorts of other problems, you'd probably more prone to gambling in general and lose all your money.

you don't need to watch motivational content to become motivated, you need to stop consuming demotivational content to be motivated.demotivational content is the poison of our time. especially all the arguments they are equipped with. ai is basically the nuclear bomb of demotivation they use. just think about how many demotivational posts you read every single day.think about it, why do you believe your effort isn't worth it? because you finished and published a good game and it didn't work out? or because someone told you so?the fucked up part is, it's more like passive smoking. you couldn't even tell me the exact person who motivated you. it's slipping into your mind here and there. that related video thumbnail saying "ai just caused layoffs" or "gamedev is too hard" or "my game didn't make any money" or "nobody can afford housing anymore" or "nobody is dating anymore". you couldn't even tell me the name of those channels. but they all slip into your mind.just think about it, what would your mind be like if you weren't exposed to those thoughts and you'd only judge the world by your own thoughts. yeah you'd be a little negative sometimes, but not in the same way you are when you got conditioned by someone whispering negative thoughts into your ear every single day.e.g. imagine being in a relationship with a girl and all your friends constantly telling you it wont work out, that she 100% is cheating already, that she is stealing money from you, that she talks bad about you behind your back, that she poisons your food etc. etc. - you can't tell me it wouldn't affect your relationship. at least you'd constantly be under tension and not let your guard down, constantly being stressed and worried, which drains energy and makes you not enjoy anything anymore.
>>562964747I think you misunderstand some things
>>562965545>e.g. imagine being in a relationship with a girl and all your friends constantly telling you it wont work out, that she 100% is cheating already, that she is stealing money from you, that she talks bad about you behind your back, that she poisons your food etc. etc. - you can't tell me it wouldn't affect your relationship. at least you'd constantly be under tension and not let your guard down, constantly being stressed and worried, which drains energy and makes you not enjoy anything anymore. You are describing being a woman with friends, they seem to be doing alright why can't you?
>>562965531i do not trust software running on my pc, where the developer uses comic sans in the thumbnail.
>>562965531I don't want that trash in my steam library
>>562965531>comics sans>horror engine for unrealthis is some mega slop
>>562965545You bring up a powerful perspective. It's true that much of the demotivation we experience isn't always rooted in our own thoughts, but often in the subtle, pervasive influence of external content and societal conditioning. Just like passive smoking, exposure to negative messages—whether through social media, news, or conversations—can silently shape our mindset and beliefs without us even realizing it.The key insight is that consuming demotivational content continuously can create a subconscious feedback loop that erodes our confidence and motivation. When we allow these messages to dominate our mental space, we start to question our efforts, our worth, and our potential—often based on the stories of others' failures or hardships, rather than our own experiences.Choosing to limit or filter out this negative input can help us reconnect with our true selves and evaluate the world through our own lens. It's about reclaiming mental space and understanding that many of the doubts and fears are external noise—not necessarily reflective of reality or our capabilities.Just like in your analogy about relationships, when the mind is bombarded with constant negativity or suspicion, it creates tension, stress, and drains energy. Conversely, cultivating a mindset centered on your own thoughts, strengths, and authentic experiences can foster resilience, positivity, and genuine motivation.Ultimately, guarding your mental environment is crucial. Be mindful of what you consume and recognize that you have the power to choose what influences your thoughts. Your effort is worth it, and your potential is not defined by the noise of demotivational messages around you.

i wonder why it's so hard to code desktop apps. it feels like everything is designed for the web, because saas milks more money than people being allowed to use an app offline.there's WPF, but it's windows only. then there's Qt with a licensing model that requires having your own team of lawyers or being rich.and then there's electron, which is stupid to work with, cause now you have to use 2 programming languages for the whole project instead of 1.why can't there just be some html/css framework that exposes all dom functions/callbacks to c# or c++?
>>562965961women are mentally bucked by feminism just go read /r/girldinnerwomen will be like "my bf of 7 years forgot flowers on valentines day" and every "woman" in the replies are just "dump his loser ass girl, he don't love you"

>>562967781The product now has more executive pull, while your formal role still looks under-defined.

What I would like some help with is numbers.I added these to the debug HUD, allowing you to see the actual movement stats of each attack on-demand. Specifically, the impulse, aka how much it moves the player and in what direction, and the knockback, aka how much it knocks the enemy back and in what direction.Do you have any suggestions for numbers I should use for each attack to make it feel better? Tuning this'll probably help.
>>562969635no one here aspires to cater to that demographic thoughbeit

>>562970328True, specially if you actually have ideas and a vision instead of chasing memes or having the same frame of reference as others. But in a way, shit around masses culture and normies is worth acknowledging at least so you can learn how to avoid it.Or else, you get failed contrarianism:>e.g. guy that points out so many indie devs poorly copying anime but doesn't say the same at people poorly copying DisneyIn general, two lists are needed: One for Do's and another for Don't's.

>>562971507It made more sense back when it'd take 5+ minutes to compile a decently sized project.
>>562973081Well, you'd be correct because that's already the case.Animations don't define anything beyond frame-based animation events. The rest is code driven.
>>562972812I fuckin knew it. Not really your fault you mean well I'm sure.
>>562973209you weren't trying to read the animation end time to determine if something else should(n't) happen?
nobody boughted my game, not even on sale... and the steamie lefted a negatiff review... how could this be???
>>562973403Not particularly, no?Only thing that the end of an animation defines is the hitbox in some circumstances.
I had the idea, what if I make kaliina 2 as a bomberman clone, and then have rosa drop the bombs, but pacifica kick and K.O. the enemy bugs and a button to switch between the two.So something like you dizzy the enemies with kicks and punches, until they're K.O. and then you carry rosa near them and drop the bomb to kill them. And make it so enemies wont attack me, but they can dizzy the sisters on collision. Also have something like the farm coffee harvest in some bags at the center that grants a game over if the bugs reach it, and a time limit to kill all the bugs. That would be 100% KINO.
the market is fucking brutalonly the top 3% of games get 1000 reviews, so 97% won't.imagine if the weather forecast said it's 97% likely to rain. you wouldn't seriously consider the possibility of dry weatherand that 3% includes AAA and AA games with marketing budgets and existing fanbasesnow if your game costs $15 and gets 1000 reviews, that's $250k in your bank account. if you worked 2 years on that game, that's the $125k/year. low six figures and only 1 in 33 chance of that. 32 out of 33 cases you'll be earning less than that. 30 out of 33 cases you'll be earning less than minimum wageif you're doing this for money, you're an optimistic dumbasst. an optimistic dumbass
>>5629746183% is an amazing chance at the lottery anon.Imagine a lottery that has a 3% chance of winning.

>>562975064>>562975175that only happens if your goal is to make an JRPG in 3D with hundreds of levels. You can make a roguelite 2D shooter with a collectable card system as loot, and a basic VN in like 2 months of work where each card is a diferent furry anime girl stereotype and some irish indian metal ost.
>>562975245you have 3% chance to earn 3x as much as a burger flipper does 100% of the time for the equivalent amount of work
>You can make a roguelite 2D shooter with a collectable card system as loot, and a basic VN in like 2 months of workthat's still thousands of hours of work either way and the simplest games are also the most saturated ones, and with saturated genres your likelyhood of making it lowers from 3% down to 0.3%dekillify yourself immediately for you are low IQ.
>>562975565not if you use my cheap asset workflow.
>>562974618now subtract the amount of "games" with less than 5 reviews from the amount of games
>>562975703plenty of actual decent games get very low review counts too. the cope about "muh asset flip slop" is retarded because to valve, your real game is no different than an asset flip made by a hindu in his punjabi village. you're all just "content" to fill his store with.
>>562976179correction: you are all $100 steaks
competition is not a problem to me. my only problems are all about making stuff in the first place.when you are able to build a spaceship, you basically have no competition. the problem is specifically building the spaceship, and not how to compete with your finished spaceship.just because someone else is building a weather balloon, doesn't mean they are competition for my spaceship.

>>562976179i don't play games because they are "good", i play games because i want to play a specific genre, have a specific experience, have a specific gameplay.you can make me the best toast, but i want pizza not toast.you can make me the best classical music, but i want r&b not classical music.there's just genres that aren't that popular or interesting.
>>562976460and you're not discouraged by the fact you haven't even built a lego space ship yet?
>>562976601I wouldn't play undertale either. what I'm saying (You)r game probably looks even worse or doesn't exist outside your head so you have no basis to believe you could make something with over 5 reviews
>>562976601this game does not look good to me, nor would I play it. in fact, it doesn't even look good objectively, and yet it has more reviews and made more money than even the latest /agdg/ releases (so far at least).any appeal to "quality" in the modern games market is idiotic, because it's not quality that sells your game. it's getting viral on tiktok/youtube/whatever other slop content farm of your choice, and then redirecting steamies from there to your game.

It feels impossible to make something anyone will care about these days. Standards have gotten too high. And I don't just mean gaming, I mean everything online.
>>562936645Stop posting good looking people, thx. What's the minecraft clone with furry characters that was in dd?
big brain thought: make prototypes, but not in a game engine, but as mods.why? gives you a context and free assets. and you can test your ideas inside a real game and see how it works.and then you can still turn it into your own game.also it battle-tests your idea. e.g. try making a minecraft mod, you'll notice how it's really hard to come up with something the game doesn't have yet. ofc it's easy to come up with "scaling" ideas like "just add more plants" "just add more animals", "just add more block types". but scaling isn't something a small business should do, that's for big corpos with 1 trillion dollars.the only ideas that matter are small ideas that really add a lot of gameplay value.
>>563002994>Stop posting good looking people, thx.>What's the minecraft clone with furry characters that was in dd?
>>563002895ah, standards have just gotten more specific, not higher. most people check for 1. SOUL - does the game have soul or is it simply low effort?2. COMFORT - nobody really cares about innovation these days, they want something to comfort them, like a familiar blanket3. CONNECTION - people prefer active and responsive developers over absentee ones.
I do not like actual game mechanics anymore. Only complex flexible systems. That's why I want to make one of those Dwarf Fortress ass games where there's just non-animated sprites sliding around. Are modern gamers still receptive to those? Examples:>Space Station 13>Dwarf Fortress>Caves of Qud
>>563002895i'm learning more skills that, if all else fails, i can enjoy privately by myself like playing piano or drawing. being an inde dev is like having a garage band and expecting anyone to care.

>>563003473And I now think actual game mechanics just get in the way of enjoying the complex systems. Like imagine having an actual combat system lmao, no thanks. Just have my two sliding avatars exchange numbers then one dies.
>>563003468i think most gamedevs are completely unaware why people buy games. they can't comprehend how a 15 year old fat boy thinks. or how a 16 year old slutty girl thinks. or how some dude who smokes weed all day thinks. or what someone plays after working a full day in an amazon warehouse. or how someone thinks who has 3 kids and a wife.but i guess people who try hard are still less out of touch than furries who think their visual novel about sonic is the next big hit.

You need to ask a question. Not "Why do people PLAY games?"But "Why do people LIKE games?"If someone opens up your game, plays it for a couple of hours, and then forgets about it, did you really "Win?"What you need to try to do is leave an impact on someone else

>>563002407>What ideas are they?a game about the mesoamerican ball game. basically pong but with real physics and injury simulation that kind of works like darkest dungeon where you have to manage your roster and choose players every game. your players have simulated personalities, fears, strengths and whatnot. i guess its like a weird mash of tabs, darkest dungeon and pong. i want physics simulation to be on point though, thats where most of the fun should be. sometimes the ball would be moving too fast and you have to manage the speed while keeping it in play. there will be various ball types, various equipment that your players can wear, and yeah stuff like thatmaybe multiplayer eventually idk
>>563005257Neat concept. Probably needs a team tho
>>563003704This is true, there used to be a unifying nerd culture between the 80s and mid 2000s that was relatively unchanged. But as things got more acceptable and mainstream the nerds who made the game became increasingly disconnected to the fans, the people playing their games didn't want sovl or immersion anymore they wanted metrics and leaderboards. But there was a separate movement of social outcasts first gathering in places like DeviantArt and Tumblr who were after acceptance and belonging, those people eventually found their way into media and IT through sheer selection bias. If you're a furry or a diaperfag you can't exist in regular society so you're forced to sell yourself or enter an industry that's more tolerant. Fast forward to 2018 and those people who were groomed in the late 2000s are now working professionals producing all your favorite media franchises.
>>563005375so make a diaperfur game is what you are saying?
>>563003473You need to find a good theme for such games.I think if you like add a cool theme, like space exploration like aurora 4X, or gnomes like gnomoria or Dwarve Fortress.I do think there's like a niche of autists who just want some game like football manager, that are more about managing stats.Look up games like freeciv, aurora4X, civilization, sim city, MULE, nethack. The whole autismo genre of grand strategy where is just historical maps and economic stats. Also check out dating simulators, which are basically menue games like tokidoki memorial.I do think it wont be a huge mainstream normie game, but It could basically create it's own niche fanbase and comunity that will buy it if the game is good enough. There's plenty of autismos who enjoyed shit like WW2 maps in books.

>>563003473>>563003641You're touching on Tesler's Law which states that complexity can't be reduced only redistributed. It's easy to think that the best game ever has a combination of all the best game mechanics and is infinitely complex but mechanics don't exist in isolation and if you place focus on one mechanic you take away from all the others. This means that you can't divide the player's attention too much or you risk overloading his mental stack of problems to solve, a well tuned game is challenging but never hopeless.

Jumping straight into solodevving a game from scratch is way too much of a leap as a programmer for me. It's like trying to start a restaurant, because you cook at home a lot, but you've never worked in a restaurant before.
>>563009836Thank you for the reply.I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding that particular misalignment issue.Camera movement is stable. All of the voxles are Raymarched and traversed in the fragment shader using SVOs. Even sectioning out characters with them. ).

Big progress made, art is all place holder. I'm pretty close to the point of being done with the basic foundation of the game and will just need to fill in the details like levels, characters, enemies, etc
just doing it is not a cure to creative block. it's a cure to idling, but not to really get anywhere. when you just do something it's a dead end right from the start. i think it's because without defining a goal, you just wander around aimlessly and everything just goes weird.i guess the only real cure is real commitment. making very bold decisions right from the start. is it an rts? is it a point&click adventure? what's the art style? what's the goal? what's the theme?those decisions are really hard to make when it's about making a real commitment. because they'll bind you to a decision for a year or more. but it has to be done. you gotta make decisions. you gotta define what you are doing.meme example: try to define how you want to have sex if you can't even define your gender, you can't. you need a point of reference, a context. without that everything is just pointless action to kill time.for some reason i have an insanely hard time to make decisions. if i'd say "i make a space rts" i'd immediately find hundreds of reasons that it's a bad idea, e.g. cause BAR and Starcraft exist and cause i can't do it better.but that's exactly the problem. for every idea there's like hundreds of reasons to not do it. which makes me wonder if there's even any idea that's better than another.but i don't have an answer for all of that. maybe rolling a dice? maybe doing it like in a procedurally generated game where you let the rng decide what the world is like, and then you just adapt to it and try to make the best out of it?another logical argument would be doing what you are good at. but lets face it, if you'd be good at cars, you'd work repairing cars. if you'd be good at cooking you'd be a chef. so that type of reasoning also doesn't work well, cause games about programming are just dumb. also it'd mean that all gamedevs only make games about programming from now on.guess i'll have to figure this out in more monologues, cause the only reply i'll get will be "tldr"

>>563048004you can make pong as a beginner in one day.
>>563048187So?
>>563048030I thought i missed something and went back to check, but I dont see any mention of multiplayer in the reply chain. That aside, no, I don't think pong teaches you a lot outside of some extremely rudimentary basics. You learn so many more programming and game design lessons if you try making a short shmup, platformer, or yeah, even rpg. All of these are better candidates for learning highscores, saving/loading, keybinding, gamestates, menu controllers, sfx/music, controller support, window control, tate, shaders, etc etc etc for.
