Good luck on your progress today
me? im with joey fygoon
>>562815849Thank you!
I begin my day with a walk to starbucks at 4am every morning. takes an hour to get there and back. When your an intellectual your routine starts looking like this
>Selfie>We also require all payees to provide a selfie of themselves holding the same document they are providing. Please remove all hats, glasses, and other facial obstructions to get through the process as fast as possible
I had a dream I was coding and my cat was cuddling me while I was trying to dev and I got really annoyed
Progress: - removed plot - removed incremental mechanic - removed overworld - decreased characters poly count to < 400 - decreased unique characters to < 10
It's crazy when I get new games in the /v/3 form that I've NEVER seen posted here. The fuck is going on with this secret ahh progress group that never posts here or the discord.

>>562757193>As of April 2026, the indie ARPG market is entering a "post-survivor" phase where the novelty of the 15-minute run is being replaced by a demand for deeper meta-systems. Upcoming titles like Aether & Iron (noir-inspired car combat ARPG) and Esoteric Ebb (narrative-focused CRPG/ARPG hybrid) suggest that developers are looking for "blue ocean" strategies—finding niches that remain untouched by the major players.>Esoteric Ebb that game took 8 years to make. don't listen to jippity.

>still haven't fixed bug
>>562822160Also funny coincidence, I just noticed all those 3 games were released on Friday. I got curious and I went to check the last 2 successful AGDG games and....they were also released Friday, huh.
I'm working on a game in Godot and I've been building the way the state machine interfaces with the actual game in a way that I think is retarded but I'm not sure what the proper way would be. Right now the structure is that there's a Main scene, and that sees the global StateMachine and then that StateMachine sees the different invidual states. The states don't see the Main scene, or any other actual scene in the game, so I've been reference the Nodes in game by putting them in a group and then doing something like var combat_ui = get_tree().get_first_node_in_group("combat_root") to reference the node in the game.I feel like it's really retarded to make a group like this with the intent of only having one specific Node in that group, but I don't know how else to handle it. It works fine but I feel like it's going to cause problems for me later on. Are there any good tutorials on StateMachines anyone knows of or anything?

>>562828529Wow that's cool to know (I don't care).Anyway, Friday is the last day you can release a game on Steam, since they don't allow new releases on Weekends anymore. This in theory could lead to "more exposure" because people see your game Friday, Saturday and Sunday before the next batch, Monday.I was curious if it has been debated here already, or if it's considered general knowledge that releasing your game Friday is the best move for an indie developer, or if all of AGDG's successful games being released that day was just coincidence and not a calculated move on the developers side.

BOOM you are done. Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 100 games a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.>He thinks that indie gamedev can provide a sustainable primary income in 2026HahahahahaH O B B YOBBY

spent some time tweaking my pixelation shader. i think it's starting to look better. 4x is probably the better looking but x3 gives some more detail. the dithering here in this example is probably a bit aggressive but it can toned down to dither edges in a smaller gradient that's less noisy everwhere.

>>562861454I'm not entirely sure, but I think the problem is called by your `IEnumerator LandingRecoverry()`. Timing issue? Be VERY careful waiting on things or "sleeping". As they say, life moves on.

if talent wouldnt be real, then we'd see all those awesome games made in india, africa, turkey etc.but genetics determine ability.actually there is nothing that makes me more uncomfortable than someone desperately trying to do something they don't have talent for. it's like the soulless version of someone with real talent.best example is someone with dwarfism. do they have a talent for basketball? no, basically just because of hard limitations like body height.talent is more than just ability, it's your genetics. your iq, your height, your looks, your voice, your immune system, your nervous system. basically everything in your body determines outcome.someone with a heart failure wont become a pro athlete.if this is just called genetics and not talent, then so be it. then call it genetics. i dont care. if you dont have the genetics, you can't compete. you gotta find something that plays into your genetics.you wont believe in talent until you see someone doing insane stuff without even doing that much exercise or education. you'll just sense how they are just naturally able to. ofc they can improve their skills by exercising, but it's more like watering a seed. you can water a dandelion seed as much as you want, it wont become a rose or tulip.
>>562881971My idea is we make a really big game, huge in fact, so massive we need to expand our studio. We'll make a tiny vertical slice of this but make it seem like everything we promised exists in a playable state at the investor's meeting (we're gonna meet with the Chinese btw). We'll let Tencent buy 30% of the company for $12b and rights to our proprietary tech (it's an SQL database) and we'll split $4b between us and the executives and then we'll hire no less than 200 Indians on contract for 10 years using the rest of the money while Tencent provides all the artists. Whatever they ask to put in the game we comply, after 6 years we host an emergency meeting saying we're not feeling confident we can manage a game of this scale and wonder if they can take over. Tencent agrees, fires all the employees and declares bankruptcy being able to use this nonexistant multi billion dollar franchise as a tax write-off.

Artist here, just finishing up with a client so I'll have some time opening up. Let me know 2D/3D, style, genre, scope (jam game, multiple years, somewhere in the middle), what engine you're using, how far along you are, and if you've made any games in the past.Could be free for the right project but otherwise we can discuss rates if we think it's worth talking more elsewhere.
man i've been devving so much I have no time to goon. I thought to myself today "ok let's exercise then eat dinner then goon" but instead i sat at my computer and just worked on my game.
isn't money a weird thing.let's say you have 2 rural people.one knows how to repair a car.one knows how to grow food.but both are poor.so person a needs food, person b needs their car repaired, but they both can't afford to pay for it cause they dont have money.it basically blocks the flow of work and trade, because it requires you to have some in the first place.i mean how many people dont do what they could do and someone else needs, because the money isnt there to make the trade work?

i had to nuke framerate and bitrate a bit to show it so it looks more smooth ingame but it honestly looks better in motion than i expected it would without any crazy jitters. probably don't want too much fast paced movement so not great for an action game but i wasn't planning on making one. also while i struggled picking a palette i realized i will just be able to swap palettes dynamically whenever i want to fit the current mood of the story.

For the dev anons here who can draw/paint, how did you come to learn? Did you take up learning art skills for your devving pursuits or was it a thing that happened prior? How long etc. ?
This was motivated by finance shit (making a backtesting system), but I implemented my own expression trees or whatever for the first time in C#.A Series is an object that holds a Node. Nodes can be anything like MathNode, ConstantNode, SMANode, etc. Each one has its own set of args, and an internal buffer. They have a hashcode that depends on the node type, the buffer reference, and the args used. So if I call SMA(20), it always hashes the same buffer and skips additional work.Series also holds a wrapper around several math ops, so I can do like Series + Series, which generates a new graph and as soon as I try to assign a Series object onto a float[], it evaluates the graph. Very cool stuff. In terms of VIDEOGAMES, I suppose I can use a very similar technique to work on scripts, or parsing user input. I'm thinking like the FF12 gambit system for AI (eg, nodes to compare hp, distance, etc)

Warning, useless blog post follows.Yesterday I was waiting for something next to some guy who was having a "business" phone conversation. He was talking to some subordinate and telling them what they did wrong and what to do. He wasn't exactly unpleasant or rude (although I wouldn't talk like that even to guys I hired on Fiverr), but it made me remember what was it like to be working at a job and to have a boss. Partly thanks to gamedev I haven't had a boss for a long time and I'm dreading having to find a job again. Which I'll have to in 148 days because that's when my money runs out and when I'll have to let go of my game, either ship it or abandon it. Even if the very unlikely happens and my game "makes it", it won't be quickly enough to save me from having to get a job. It's like a dark cloud hanging over me.Today I'll be doing performance optimization. The common wisdom is you shouldn't be doing premature optimization, but that just means don't waste time optimizing before you encounter performance issues, it doesn't mean wait until polish to fix performance issues.
>>562926548I’m more confused as to why it’s THIS specific one

What is life without hope? Was my first mistake banking on my game to support me financially? Was I supposed to grow up first, leave lala land, pursue a healthy career and mind for a few years, fix my social dysfunction, find a wife and family, then enjoy decades of building games for fun in my offtime?Instead of the desperate pleas I find myself giving every night before bed? Can someone enlighten me, else I will have to continue my schedule tomorrow of praying for the best. t. faggot

Need feedback on a mechanic. After you die, for each boss slain you get a signature permanent boost from his exclusive pool. You can reroll them and get another from his pool, but you potentially get up to 10 boosts at once.Do you find this mechanic interesting or confusing? I could have the player choose only one from this list, and make them 10x more powerful, but this will introduce an asymmetry: to get 10 boosts right now you need to reach wave 1000, but with this change a wave 100, while limiting your choice to the first boss pool, will grant you the same amount of boosts as a wave 1000 run, just from a smaller pool. What do?
>indie game made by ONE single person has been in early access for 1 day >1k reviewsJust make a good game. It's not easy, but it's simple.
What is it about the Early Access label that attracts gamers like bees to honey
>>562935189This is the game, i havent posted progress for about a month and am currently being filtered by not being able to strip the audio from a webm on the new phone, sorry for no webm
>>562935370Are you dumb? It's the exact opposite, everyone steers away from Early Access nowadays because of all the good will that got burnt by scammer devs using early access just to "test the concept" and then abandon it. Just look at all the early access games from AGDG. It only works today on games that were already going to be extremely popular, like Slay The Spire 2 and such.
>>5629352015:1 peak CCU to reviews ratio, not great (10+) but pretty good, seems like a niche game with a dedicated fanbase mass reviewing instead of playing
>>562935370Early Access only has that effect if the game is already good enough to justify the price but promises more
