Tails Adventure x Sonic 2 Prologue = Tails is essentially a survivor of war, where he's become traumatized from having to face an entire army of birds who tormented and bullied him for being a freak of nature, with Speedy in particular being the main rival who tormented him the most and ridiculed him for that. So even if Tails technically "won", he's now been living on West Side Island where the stories of what happened on Cocoa Island carried over so now Tails continues to be bullied because of how the stories were spun, making it seem like Tails is a two-tailed monster. So now Tails is super isolated and alone and traumatized and hates himself, and has no one to rely on or turn to until a blue streak speeds by and that's Sonic the Hedgehog!

Tails Adventure's own story in the manual is pretty simple and not too much of a problem, it is purely the continuity of going from the end of Tails Adventure to the start of Sonic 2. Thus, the solution that might work best is framing Tails Adventure's events as a whole as an expansion of what Sonic 2 implies. Rather than just Tails being bullied for having two tails, what if it was all this other nonsense? And sure, it may SOUND cool, but keep in mind this is a small child trying to survive, so naturally it would have affected him in a negative manner, and the outcome could have factored in to being bullied for it as well, in some way. From that perspective, it might work well enough as an expanded backstory for Tails that gives deeper insight into where he came from and how he came to be.

My main complaint abouts KH is that immediately after the first game the Disney parts stopped meshing with the Square Enix parts and it became a disjointed mess. Now you have OC drama that's occasionally interrupted by a Disney advertisement. It's just awful. Also they started removing all the FF characters from the plot, it's not even a real cross over anymore.

Sonic is basically what Mickey actually was in the beginning. But they sanitized Mickey's personality because of soccer moms or whatever, so they split that original persona between Donald & Goofy, and made Mickey the straight man who is "polite" and "smart". Basically, they turned Mickey from Sonic into Tails, in personality. Sonic is like if Mickey never lost that original personality. Epic Mickey is an example of bringing back the original spirit of Mickey Mouse, and the entire premise is built around that. Meanwhile, King Mickey in KH is basically presented like Sonic as this larger than life, mythical figure that serves as a living symbol of the themes and ideals, and is a super cool epic action hero in the process.
There is no difference between having Disney characters go on an epic adventure and Sonic characters doing the same thing.
