I didn't even plan this out, but I killed Gortash during the coronation by locking him in the room behind the throne with a scroll of arcane lock. I approached from behind after exploring the outside area, so my companions were in this room during the dialogue, and he ran towards them when the fight began. I've been waiting for an opportunity to use that spell tactically in some way and this was so satisfying to pull off.
