Did all those team members in 03 feel superfluous to you, too? Like, I'm glad they were there and that the devs put effort into their skills, lines and animations, but since it felt like there were definite best choices for each role, the only reason you'd use most other team members of that type would be that you really like them as characters. Nobody is going to beat Rance as an offensive phys character, Shizuka is clearly the best offensive mage, you practically need to use Sel because of her group heal, etc. Hustle became practically useless by the end because you'd almost always get Julia or Mill or Lia or some other underleveled character that you didn't use all that much.
