I firmly believe Sonic's characterization in the OVA is the closest to how Ohshima originally envisioned him and how he was described in his original 1991 character outline (it literally refers to him as having "an attitude"). He's an aloof, hotheaded jerk who will help people in need, but would rather be doing his own thing. I can't imagine JP Game Sonic giving the "Strange, isn't it?" speech, let alone "SHUT UP TAILS!" That's more Shadow or even Silver's thing.Fleetway was also close, but may have went a bit too far with his jerkishness (outright bullying Tails and all). SoA turned him into a fun-loving jokester a la Bugs Bunny, which, while not exactly right either, still fit him just fine. He was always meant to be to Mario what Bugs was to Mickey Mouse, the cooler, edgier alternative to the safe corporate face of the medium.
