This feels like a retarded question but I dunno where else to ask. I have been repeatedly told that fighting game events are good ways to meet people. Problem is I don't really into them. In highschool a friend of mine wouldn't stop talking about how awesome Skullgirls was, telling me it has stuff in place to make sure you don't get infinite combo'd. I bought it on PC and played a bunch against bots thinking it was good practice and that I would be able to at least compete when the online came out. When it did I got absolutely demolished, I was lucky to get a hit in, and this was 'beginner casual' lobbies. I said that's enough and never looked back. Anyways, how would people react if I went to a fight game event and just, hung out, talked about basically any other vidya shit? Would anyone care?

You'd spam the few specials you knew how to do in neutral and maybe do short combos by accident. No one complained about execution and being stuck in long combos. Now the average casual stuck in silver knows about tournaments, feels pressured to learn combos or use modern controls for auto combos, and has to watch cutscene supers. The games became less interactive at their level when that used to be reserved for pros most didn't even know existed. The game that's more interactive and has low execution that they wanna play is either Smash or licensed arena fighters. People played Marvel or whatever for a lack of better casual options with recognizable characters. Now if you want a fighting game to succeed you need to convince casuals to put in effort which you can only do by having a big IP, good graphics and good word of mouth. 2XKO failed the last two and exposed casuals to more top level player degeneracy than any other fighting game.
