He was demoted from his position as leader of Sonic Team and then he left because he couldn't take it anymore. Akinori Nishiyama filled in for him from 2006-2010 but then he was promoted to be an internal manager at Sega. This is when Takashi Iizuka became the leader of Sonic Team and the franchise has gone downhill ever since. Iizuka isn't fit to be the leader of Sonic Team. He also has no integrity to stand up to SOA when they try to encroach on the franchise

Sonic CD's problem is it shouldn't have been made for Sega CD, just like Knuckles' Chaotix shouldn't have been for Sega 32x. These addons held these games back. For CD they were even getting accustomed to the CD format and so every since Round was programmed from near-scratch instead of the way they've done it on cartridge.
