>Are mystery dungeon games allowed in this thread?
Generally yes, most mystery dungeon games(Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc.) can be considered roguelikes
>Is Elin/Elona allowed?
Yes, they are roguelikes. Please do not post your Little Sister farms
>Is Dwarf Fortress allowed?
If it's adventure mode, yes. But adventure mode is boring. /tg/ has a general for fortress mode playthroughs but you can share here too!

Well, we have the /vrpg/ threads at least. /rlg/ won't die there, but unfortunately, yes, /rlg/'s time on /vg/ seems to be over. It was bound to happen, it's nothing but gacha and the occasional MMO at the top of activity in this board, that's all the board is at this point, other threads don't have much of a place here.

anyways now that zombie cows at the dairy farms in cdda can be trapped by the walls, whats a good use for these, besides training a bit of firearms skill or spear stabbin
>>
>>564377067
found one "good" use. with a slingshot, and rocks for pebbles, you can spam training archery on these for free. just stand one tile away and hold fire, itll use pebbles on the ground next to you. im battery these poor cows with THOUSANDS of pebbles
>>
>>564378261
If it's DDA don't you have practicing so you don't have to do mundane skill grindan manually?

practice only raises your level so many levels, like, 1, for most cases. and you need equipment/materials to do the practice stuff that goes higher anways. this is marksmanship/archery/throwing with nothing but a stick, rubber hose and pebbles (smashing rocks), so its basically free and feasible to do instantly.
anyways, not saying this is the best/most efficient, im just trying to find uses for it. its KINDA useful to me because ive found a few crossbows/bows and my character had zero skill. i might actually try using them since i can theoretically just grind it here tediously.

i guess you could lure a shegorath in, and have an enemy you could infinity practice on with the more powerful weapons if you didnt find any other method to train them? if you REALLY havent found an aim game unit. maybe practice grenade launchers? dunno, just spitballing uses for this spot.

>>564380074
pretty sure you can, but i never get far enough to bother with that mechanic. i get killed way before food actually gets scarce.

>>564382127
maybe im not getting you? yes, you can shoot real zombies with real ammo and get to level 9+ eventually. theres a practice menu where you can get to some levels, without using ammo, which is the trade off. your just dry firing/practicing drawing, not actually shooting. that gets you SOME levels but tops out.
what do you mean, could you just "forever practice, not using any ammo" in a basement and become a sniper tier marksman?

>yeah splitting an already super slow thread is bound to pan out super well
It's only splitting if there's people like you who absolutely and categorically need to post on veegee. Is the name of the board you post on that important? 99% of /vg/ users don't even look at generals other than "their" game so it's not like staying on /vg/ will bring new roguelike enjoyers overnight, see people like :
https://arch.b4k.dev/vg/thread/562923749/#563009626
>>
>>564385597
theres already literally been people posting here who didnt know there was a different thread in a different board, and a few that said they wouldnt swap. dunno what to tell you. its already happening, not "what if it happens".

anyways, im not even gonna beef, if this gets enough posts that a mention the other thread exists is no longer near the bottom of the thread, ill mention it. good luck
>>
Nigga the thread was made by a guy from the other general and then another schizo bumped this 20 times before it got its first real post, which is from the DDA guy who was also posting in the other thread
It's the exact same group of people.

Does dwarf fortress adventure mode have diagonal movement? I don’t have a numpad and can’t seem to figure out diagonal binds

It does, without a numpad you could use vi keys instead, I remember DF had them but they might not be on by default.

From all that I've heard, it can be good, but not really worth the price they're asking, better to pirate or buy on a sale. Also it seems like the devs are taking their sweet time adding things into the game.

Portals are a field effect, like fire, sparks, toxic gas or smoke, and different levels of it have different names
I believe Tear in Reality is the strongest tier of portal, but I haven't noticed any difference between the various tiers so it is just cosmetic.
If you touch it, you'll be teleported, and don't try to drive through it, but aside from that it's mostly harmless. If you spend too much time near it, various monsters will spawn. So if you want to see what a lepidopterid is, keep hanging around

This is so fucking weird, it's like they took the dungeon generation from Rogue that was just rectangles, but removed the corridors that connected the rooms and instead just made portal tiles that teleport you to the next adjacent room. What a weird way to make a roguelike.
>>
>>564486817
At least the matrix roguelike rolled with it and had you superjump between rectangles.

pro-tip, hit r or shift + r i think on the map and set a radius to mark an area as dangerous. the nice thing about this is that youll autopath around it for the autodrive, so you can just mark off towns or paths that are a pain to go down and not have to micromanage the autodrive.
shit example, but on some older maps i had, i could just autopath from say, exodi to hub which was like 150 tiles away without having to baby it once. just click go and tab out, tab back in and id be there
>>
>>564492682
I remember people complaining about autodrive years ago when it was added, I wonder if they made it any better.
>>
>>564493776
the time saves worth it fucking you over every once and a while, just save and be ready to roll back if it does something dumb. hit x to turn on fast travel, so you dont even leave the overmap and its MUCH faster then doing it manually.
things it may fuck you on are barbed wire fences. so the (insert special event here) and say, the farms that have barbed wire fences around them, or camps with spiked pits? if you autodrive around those autodrive may just fuckin yolo a tire into it and kill your car, which is pretty shit. and SOMETIMES youll get kicked out of autodrive only to find youve stopped right next to a feral at your car door, which can fuck you hard as well.

seriously, it cuts down on large travel time SO much, its worth trying out. seriously if they removed it i would just drop the game entirely, i wouldnt bother slogging it out.

I have this vague recollection of someone on this general who for some reason wanted to play Cataclysm entirely on the overmap. It's so strange I'm not sure if I'm just remembering it wrong or if it was actually real.

i can picture how that would work. those games that have an "auto battle" feature? you could just click on like, a house and get a list of options:

and like, check a few boxes and an a.i attempts all your goals and gives you a status report.

Just read the patch notes for .34 for Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. I already have been aware of how retarded things were getting and wrote them off. I had 0 faith for whoever is running things, it's been obvious for years that they're dead set on just ruining the game and taking it into a stupid direction. But even with 0 expectations, they still managed to impress me with how fucking dumb the changes and additions are.

It's so clear that some anal-retentive midwit with a penchant for tedium came up with these ideas. Like every line is dense, obtuse, needlessly convoluted, and overcomplicated for no real reason. DCSS used to be great for its tight design and simplicity. It was really concise, coherent, and straightforward. Now every enemy, every spell, every interaction is an exercise in frustration. "X adds 1 stack of Y 1/nth of the time where n is a function f(x + c/4) where x is the current number of enemies in view and c is a constant which is randomly generated each time you go down a staircase. At 3 stacks, your characters tillywinkles Stat is deincremented by 3/5k where k is the number of individuals keystrokes you've entered since the last time you encountered any enemy with the FLUID_ID flag". Jesus fucking christ. Midwits not even once. They love their complexities, they really think it makes them smart to design such rotten garbage. Not to mention the very slight tinge of malice that undercurrents everything now. Just below the surface but undoubtedly there once you notice it. Some hateful dweeb is responsible, probably a tranny, I'd bet money on it.

>>
>>564505816
Anon, while your complaints are all valid, at the end of the day, it's your fault for even bothering to keep up with DCSS in this day and age. The game that we knew of is long gone, it's time to forget about it.
>>
>>564505816
have they removed attack of opportunity yet or are they still in the game
>>
>>564507873

>>564506856
I know it's just so painful. I really loved DCSS a lot. A whole lot. Obviously I can just play older versions but then there are legitimate improvements and features that I do genuinely like, it's just mixed in with a massive number of godawful changes. The solution is of course playing a fork or making my own which I suppose I will do one of these days.
>>564506095
Care to elaborate?
>>
>>564509757
>Still in the game
Game's still shit then. Are there any good DCSS forks these days? Last one I played was Kimchi many years ago.
