Lack of those qualities is why it's so hard to build a serious connection with others.

Fave is feeling defeated after going through the trouble of switching graphics cards to try to fix an issue. The entire aspect of fabric holding in packed stuffing that could break open at the stitches like a shirt coming undone is so inherently connected to my fetish of choice. Spamton being a puppet just hits me right in the heart. The toy-ness of him brings me comfort but at the same time- the only way I can describe his design is fashionable and bit edgy, which I love from an aesthetic standpoint. He’s very duel like that. But despite all of this, it's totally possible for him to be forgiven, to confront and accept it all. Even if his awful persona became his true self after so long playing that role, his life is still worth living that way. He tries so hard to drag you down to his level the whole game, and while you can confirm his worst fears and beliefs for him, you can also imagine him happy in the ultimate refutation of his mindset. It's the only way to really defeat him, I think.Also I want to fuck him and his boss themes are the best ones in the game, objectively. He's just a charming character overall, honestly. He has a lot of funny moments too even though I framed him as a really serious character above. I think Toby put his best writing into him, at least in UT.

I legitimately could not understand how you could enjoy this game past the surface level without engaging with the fandom analysis. So much of the games story isnt told directly but in little item descriptions or the blurbs that show up literally once when you equip items or non intuitively checking key items in every room.

We can't see their real emotions in their sprite, we can't hear they talking, we can't see their smiles and flips and other actions. We can just infer from what others tell and that's fascinating to me. I also like that despite all of that they're still extremely important to the story, that Toby wants you to see who they truly are and to not just self-insert as them despite them being our windows to this world. It feels like figuring out every single detail and characterization of them is a puzzle only the most determined can solve, and that you can also mold any missing pieces into our headcanon without making them fully OCs. It's something unique not seen in every game or character.Also, they're very cute.

I absolutely love it when silent protagonists have subtle characterization that you can piece together through details that you might otherwise overlook. It's something really unique to video games as a medium, I think. The closest thing in another medium I can think of is when books have a first-person or tight/non-omniscient third-person POV where the narration is influenced by the protagonist's personality, but it rarely has the same puzzly quality to it.
