That's how good mysteries are written, you are supposed to be able to put everything together with the clues given to you. Intentionally giving completely extraneous fake clues with no evidence to debunk them is bad writing. Of course the fanbase is schizophrenic and will see clues where there are none, but Shadow Crystal flavor text clearly isn't an example of that.
