I made a danbooru tag randomizer using godot, then It generates a folder of .txt where each one contains an unique prompt set to a random seed set to the loop counter when generating.

Then I load the folder using TXT batch loader node on comfyui.

i wonder if that's why "starting small" works well when you have completely given up. you need a "win". there's a similar scene in "Lost" where hugo finds this old van in the forest and nobody cares, but he convinces others to help him because "we had so many losses recently, we really need a win now". basically he noticed that the morale is very low and that fixing the van was the best way to bring morale back.

it probably also explains why having success at your job makes you more attractive for women. you emit a certain confidence because of success. you basically didn't improve your skill with women at all, yet you improved something else and the confidence affects every other aspect of your life.

maybe that's the reason why nobody can build the discipline to keep working on something they fail at. because the brain can't handle too much failure. you gotta design a process where you have small wins all the time.

i guess people flee into playing video games again, because in games you have a lot of wins, a lot of competency-improving situations etc. - and this heavily relaxes the brain.

zomboid b42 crashes so much, also the performance of java can't hold up with burst-compiled code in unity or linking a C dll to call it from C#. also the UI sucks in those games, because their ui frameworks are horrible.

the problem is you can't just easily rebuild those games without years of work. so they are stuck in a shitty engine. and the devs don't seem to have very high energy anymore, it almost feels like they retired.

When I have a bad day I can get stuck in distraction loops for hours. The other day I was getting hungry so I was going to make dinner, I ended up getting distracted and then reminded by other people 3 times. Something as simple as eating took 5 hours longer than it was supposed to.

added "correcting" slices that would result in pieces too small by instead cutting perfectly in the center.
I tried doing a bunch of math with transforms to find the center of the object and slice it but that was too difficult so I just created a another "slicer" node that looks at the current enemy and when the normal slicer fails I use the "fixed" slicer node
unfortunately Im detecting if the two pieces are too small by their bounding box volume which as you can see by the regular collisions aren't exactly perfect, so it only really kinda works on large objects and makes slicing small objects a painnnnnnnnn

Most of the time I am either expanding or refactoring the architecture of my code.
I like rigid structures and communication pipelines, so there is quite a lot of overhead that I have to implement.
Once it comes together though, it feels very satisfying.

Kevin Jordan used to make videos kind of like that for game design, Day9 has gone off the deep end but sometimes he talks about how mechanically things work at a base level and the math behind it but it's hidden in 100h of slop.

so i'd say it's fun AND discipline and not only discipline.

Megascans and ultra high fidelity content packs just end up hurting up and coming developers who aren't ready to make those types of games. The higher fidelity game you have the higher the expectations are, if they wanted more devs the sensible thing would be to release ready made low poly slop art with LOD meshes and what not. I'm not as familiar with China's philosophical landscape and am not sure that it carries the same problem as S. Korea and Japan, that is, the idea that hard labor is a principle virtue in and of itself. I suspect that communism created a different blend of the belief, where by they have to lie about how their recent economic success is due to socialism and not their free-economic zones, but that's a different discussion. SK and Japan are obvious examples because you only have to look at how grindy their Gacha games and MMOs are(WORK HARD) or their 'live to work' mentality that's survived despite rapid shifts in spiritual beliefs and economic models.

Anyway, the point is that trying to compel yourself to 'work hard' is backwards and incomplete. In fact, I think that by working less or removing your thoughts/beliefs about being ashamed you're not working harder would help you find success faster.
Everyone always wants to ADD things. More process(workflows), more hours, more marketing, more supplements, more tools, more research, etc. But really, a bad behavior or thought causes 4x the loss then a positive behavior/thought gains. Sometimes it's clear cut: like with synthetic foods or drugs(universally bad), but other times you have to think about it, like playing vidya might hurt your creativity or numb your drive, but maybe trying out a new game will reveal something to you that will be invaluable, I mean, why would you develop games if you didn't believe they were worthwhile on some level?

the big issue is that the display resolution is 128x128 pixels (the full display cycle is 256x256 pixelclock ticks), and i don't know of any displays that have that particular resolution, so i'm probably going to have to adapt the design to something like actual VGA (and not my made up VGA).

anyway, i'd actually like to realize this with, say, TTL logic so people can build it without an FPGA and understand how tile-based graphic hardware works. the design i have is somewhere in power between an NES and SNES, closer to the latter with some added and missing features. i'm considering putting together a kickstarter campaign.

the real ultimate goal is to also design an audio circuit, gamepad circuit, dma/hdma circuit, and pair it with a cpu to have a full blown new console to mess around with.

yeah, i programmed it as an in-browser application so i could show it off online.
it has a lot of features that allow one to examine the state of the digital logic as it runs. you can set break points to stop the emulator at particular xy coordinates, step through one clock tick at a time, or just run it as fast as possible. one can edit the graphics registers and memory. it has scripts that can be triggered to run at particular times in the display cycle, which can poke at the gpu like a cpu is attached to it. it even grabs gamepad input that can be used in the scripts. you can pretty much prototype a (slow) game demo with it at this stage.
it's helped me debug the design and i now know it's a good one.
i need to take some time to draw up a nice image to load to when first opened in a browser.

More than the exact art, the aesthetic is what matters. Had Doom used some retarded visual style it might have not done so well. Like what it if had bright and colorful clowns as enemies and the player had waterguns and shit. It probably wouldn't be called Doom either.

I'd like to bring up a famous example of Diablo. Change the aesthetic and it becomes an entirely different game. At the same time what actually happened during Diablo's development was that they made it real-time instead of turn-based. That massively changed the game and was probably one of the things that made it the hit it was. It literally spawned a new genre.

What I'm trying to say is that both sides matter.

What doesn't matter is how the code or the art is produced as long as the end result looks appealing and plays well. If gamers can't tell you are using AI for something they don't give a shit.

well, first i actually would implement it on fpga, i have a pic related fpga dev board
that being said, i know enough about microelectronics that i think i could pull it off. i have electronics equipment at home, and am comfortable with datasheets. i also have a microelectronics friend to ask questions if i get stuck.
anyway, when designing the circuit, i was trying to make choices that would simplfy certain implementation details (e.g. using powers of 2 whenever i could) and keep everything at 8 or few bits (save for the vram address space).
moreover, my original goal was to make a teletype terminal, but then i kept adding features until i had something approaching a 4th gen console. so i can dial back the design to the bare minimum, or keep adding features until i get the full design. building the complete design purely from TTL chips would probably take 200-300 of them.

If you are not doing so already, you will thank yourself in future for using a hardware description language. There are open tools to synthesize logic gate netlists from it (though I have only developed on FPGAs and thus have no experience with these tools). Iterating on designs is easier and automated testbenches will massively reduce the amount of time spent on tedious processes better handled by a computer at larger scales. I use systemverilog for synthesis with basic dont shoot yourself in the foot constructs e.g. always_comb and convienience features e.g. structs. I think logisim can read from it but not sure.

I've added these "umbilical plugs" that come out of the ground when the walking enemies spawn. It serves as both aesthetic sugar and also shows the player where they will spawn (they kind of poke out a bit before they fully extend).

yeah, i am well aware that developing using HDL and designing logic by hand are very different experiences.
i wanted the option to build the design without an fpga, so i chose to design the logic with gates rather than "program" it.
actually, the way i wrote the emulator is very close to how it would be structured in a hardware description language. i think it would only take a few days to port the design because of this.

Unreal is laid out in such a way that for some things you really are supposed to use blueprints at least as a transfer layer between the engine and c++. It is simply awful to work with when compared to something like Unity where you can simply slap a script on an object and be done with it.

I forgot to make veggies yesterday so this morning I ate bread with my chicken. I forgot how tasty bread is. With melted cheese and mayo, it makes even chicken breast tolerable. Then I had 3 bananas and a Red Bull so now I'm feeling ALL FIRED UP! Donuts would've been better but can't have everything.
128 days left. I owe 1000 minutes to my game. Yesterday I picked a mix of things from my to-do list, a mix that that I earlier estimated will take me 3 days in total to finish, so now I'm benchmarking how accurate my estimates are. Estimates that say that it'll take me 75 days to clear the entire to-do list and have the game ready for bare bones EA. I'm beginning to suspect that it's not my estimates that are off but that my to-do list is very incomplete. Yesterday I added "make game icon" to it. Then "make screenshots" and "make trailer".

i learned how to program the snes from the dev manual years and years ago, and have made lots of little games for it.
i also know computer architecture from having a cs background.
and i've always wondered what the digital logic of tile-based vidya consoles looked like.

i wanted to build a teletype terminal, and realized there isn't a lot of info on how to go about designing a tile-based gpu.
so i worked out the most simple design (something that draws characters to a grid that covers a screen).
however, it really doesn't take much to do that, so i started adding on features (e.g. scrolling).
using the snes as inspiration, i just kinda worked out how most of the functionality must be implemented.
i'm only missing a handful of snes capabilities at this point (per-character scroll offset and mode 7).
the only real hint i needed was a vague notion of how the nes's scanline timing worked (see pic related).

i want to document the design and then try building it.
in addition, i want to design an audio circuit and a couple of other support circuits to make a full on new console people can build.
