I'm going to play a duo in Icewind Dale EE, I've not played the game beforeMy friend is going to be a dwarven defender, I'm debating what I wanna use. My first thought and probably the best one is a cleric/mage since I've always wanted to run one, but part of me wants to try a no magic team with either a thief kit or a fighter/thief maybe but I'm not sure how horrible it'll be in the long run. Im quite familiar with infinity engine and baldurs gate so I feel like I could probably deal with it, but I'm slightly worried about having no access to magical healing making rests like 40 day affairs. Paladin sounds kinda cool too and gives some healing, but I think i probably want more damage. I've never played any of the goofy tri class multi classes either and am a bit interested in that too since it'd level at an ok rate since we will only have two characters. Any thoughts on what I should use? Just want something kinda weird and fun mostly and not accidentally make it a slog

Vanguard is insanely fun in ME2 but they ruined it in ME3 despite a lot of people enjoying the braindead spam it became. Infiltrator with snipers is one of my favourites, if you grab the mod that lets you have bonus powers from the beginning you can do some fun shenanigans with tac cloak into flare and one shot the map, otherwise going invisible and one shotting everything is always fun. Adept sucks dick in ME2 and isn't fun. I never tried sentinel so I can't give you any advice there.

Sadly you don’t have the godly backstabbing with Staff of Striking or Staff of the Ram like in BG2. But there is a +5 Club I believe. There’s lots a shenanigans you can do with thieving and sanctuary, and maximized Righteous Magic backstabs are fun. Mage/Thief or Fighter/Mage/Thief would also work well. You’d just be leaning on potions for healing. But that’s usually fine. If you’re okay save-scumming you could forego thief entirely. Find traps spell and sacrificial low level summons can take care of floor traps, and knock spell can do locks, but trapped containers are a pain. You kinda just have to eat those without a thief. And although eating some damage is whatever, save or die stuff gets annoying.
