Ian does this thing where he tries to write a story that Sega won't allow. That's fair, a lot of creatives will come up with ideas that just don't fit the guidelines.But the thing is he will then write a "compromise" version instead of an actually good version. He can't have Shadow sacrifice himself while taking off his inhibitor rings, so instead he has Shadow act like a moron and mistake Sonic/Rouge's warning to "Run" for "flee" and not "Run so that the infection doesn't get to you". In the process he portrays a normally positive trait about Shadow (being steadfast) as self destructive. He does this over and over to the point that you can literally see it coming whenever it comes up. He would get less hate if he knew when to throw away a damaged idea. I think that's why his writing in the games comes off a little better in the games and Archie compared to IDW. In the games he is writing to suit someone else's idea. In Archie he had free reign to do whatever he wanted.
