It would be cool to have another streamer play demoday stuff.

>>565526387You don't seem to understand.I could get zero players, and you know what ? I probably will. But if I'm satisfied with what I've put out, then that's all that matters at the end of the day. If I can say "I gave it my all and produced something that actually matters to me on a personal level" then it'll be okay.
I really want to submit this demo day holy shit its been like over a year since my last submission.

If you check out their hangouts on reddit and X you will see, they are all a hivemind of extremely shallow beings with infinite time on their hand and a grudge against humanity for not worshipping their ability to use their paid LLM services. it was oddly compelling. could do with some control explanation. the stompy guy has great heft. camera is pretty random(zoomed out here for some reason?). and the WASD directional control doesn't seem grounded right? like it should be camera/screen relative, but here i had to guess which way WASD would send me at times.
>>565536648yeah I couldn't move.
>>565536825It is camera-screen relative. It’s just designed that way so you can run all the way through.
>>565536240>I left agdg because nobody is giving me good feedback but I enjoy shitting the threadjust as all the 'cord faggots seething about the actual state of agdg
>>565536938Huh. I thought I removed that.Did it happen specifically with the chicken? Because that shouldn’t be happening. I’ll investigate that.
>>565536825So adding “Make movement feel more natural” to my current checklist of shit I gotta get done. Probably need to rework the fucking run animations and perhaps add IK.
>>565536945I think the camera relativity is lost if you are holding down keys. if I let go and press a direction it does seem right. but if I am running with W, and then press a direction, it's weird.
blog, u can ignore. i lost direction of my game the past three days, led to almost no meaningful work.i think i found it again, but it's weird when i get stuck like this. it's like i just refuse to move. anyone know what im talking about?its because my game wasn't fun, and i thought the systems i built for it would be enough, but it just isn't. i have an idea on how to fix it, but im paralyzed. it finally went away today, but man, did it cost a week of despair and depression. hopefully this new direction makes it fun and kino.
>>565537312Oh, that.Actually that was intentional. It’s meant to keep you “Sailing” through camera changes without suddenly turning around if that makes a lick of sense
>>565537039I couldn't tell who hit me. both were up in my face when it happened
>>565537415Alright, that’s really weird. Here’s how that worksThe chicken specifically has a “Grab” for its charge attack in the form of a box collider that “Catches” the player. This is triggered via animation events. What I find odd that I designed it to DISABLE after either a set period OR if the enemy was damaged. Perhaps it being near another entity caused the bug? Or maybe the player being damaged fucked itI’ll have to look into that.
>>565537708So, my to-do list>Add textures to the environment and make it atmospheric >Fix combat bugs and movement bugs>Make the animations for both players and enemies flow into each other better>Add trees and buildings with props/interiors>Add proper interaction n’ shit
>>565490803From what I remember changing the canvas mode after you've made an UI in it can fuck things up. So yeah you probably need to make a new canvas, set the settings correctly and then build it again. You might be able to copy things over or at least you have the old one for reference.
>>565538105I already fixed the resolution issue

Imagine "The Warp" from Warhammer 40K, in other words a void where the craziest stuff imaginable is occurring, but unlike in 40K it's not all nightmarish beyond comprehension, it equally has areas beautiful/utopian beyond comprehension. It's a void, so everything in flying around or floating in it, which includes players, but also castles, islands, airships, crazy creatures, demonic "god" entities, etc, once again like Warhammer 40K's The Warp. And that's the entire game, a 100+ player multiplayer sandbox in The Warp. You can't leave The Warp because you're already dead.
I’ve got a lotta work to do in any case
I'm modeling a fence/border, and I'm wondering if I should do a square fence or a round fenceIt's such a small detail, but god I'm autistic
>>565539442And just like Warhammer 40K's "The Warp", the void is depth-based, metaphorically like an ocean, the deeper (down) you go the more nightmarish and incomprehensible it becomes, relative safety would exist higher up

149 days left according to my slightly revised schedule. I owe 15 hours of work to my game. I need some bug fix updates for my existing games.>>565542680I'm considering switching to caffeine pills because I don't like coffee at all. >>565543973i love coffee so much my doctor told me to stop drinking it years ago when i got my GERD diagnosis but I just ignored them before it became just too painful.however, unlike the act of just having a cup in the morning, which was mostly ritualistic desu, didnt do much energy wise, taking the pills has been great for all day energy. doesnt fuck with my stomach at all.i have 100s i cut in half, so u can just take a pill cutter and cut yours into fourths if you wanna try the same thing. the coffee jolt+crash kinda sucks but if you take it slow and consistent its like a very smooth cruise instead of a roller coaster and honestly its been helping a lot with actually getting stuff done

Brains are extremely powerful, not even just human brains. Animals are able to cache food and remember hundreds or thousands of locations. Some are funny though, like smaller animals like squirrels will stash food in countless places and even forget where most of it is. But we are not squirrels. Our brains are huge.>The Clark’s nutcracker is widely recognized for remembering the most food caches, storing up to 30,000 seeds annually and successfully retrieving them months later, even under deep snow. >>565559005where are all the extraction fantasy games the classic go to a dungeon and return to town to sell your loot trope is basically an extraction game loop but there's really not many games that lean into that
i think it's pretty simple what people want in games. they want real life without humans. at best, they want the human npcs to be slaves that do what they want.why? because people actually love nature and reality, they just hate that they got cucked by more powerful humans (they own no land, no resources, no animals etc. anymore)we actually live in a world with MASSIVELY overpowered players that own everything.people just "flee" into the virtual world. that doesn't mean they hate nature etc. - it means they have being outpowered.i mean, literally 99% of social media content nowadays is about people talking about how they have no power, no resources, nothing. not even friends and sex.well, maybe they don't even wants npcs to be "slaves", but at least they should be friendly and fair to you. "sharing the world with you", rather than forcing you to live on a 16x16 cuckplot on an overpopulated minecraft server.
>>565560361Yeah, it’s not like every RPG has pretty much exactly that loop.
>>565560651How does that apply to abstract games like Tetris?
>>565559607I want to make larger games with soul but I do not have the attention span to dedicate years to a project.
>>565561147are we talking about pc gaming or games you play on your phone/handheld while sitting on the toilet?
>>565561510Do people not play abstract games like tetris on PC?
>>565560758it might be part of many rpgs but it comes as a natural part of the rest of the gameplay experience not the main thingwhat if you made a fantasy game where the goal is to dive into a dungeon, find good loot and extract with said loot and you could do all the usual meta prog stuff improving your crafting options character upgrades and whatever else
to me, failure is when you weren't able to make your dream game. at least if that was your first goal when you went into gamedev.it's like someone playing a dungeon crawler and not being able to progress anymore, and they tell everybody "but i spend all day farming gold and i'm really rich". you didn't be the game you started playing, you just coped by redefining the goal. you basically failed.
Recoil Rush. The movement is excellent, it's fun to gain momentum and jump on walls. The fact that the pistol's projectile reflects on slopes should've been pointed out. I also typically just use one gun through the game, don't need to use the rest mostly. I got filtered by stage 4. I think the airborne kick should be instant, the animation is too slow and it's frustrating when you keep missing the target because of it.I also really have to say that the aesthetic reminds me of old flash games, I really like it. Maybe it's the music.
this thread is so chill, when he isn't online. kinda sad that one guy has so much posting power...
>>565562508To be honest, making something you genuinely like and believe is good is better than sex. I still should get a job though.
are there gamedev podcasts that aren't about 2 hour long talks about how much money they made and how many wishlists they had and how many people played their game? i do not gain anything by someone having a 2 hour session of telling me how happy they are with their numbers. that's not informational at all. it's like watching the oscars or so where they are just celebrating their wins.

Unknown Conquest. I like the audio work in this game in particular. Unfortunately, I can't progress past this part, can't hit the enemies fast enough and I always die. I usually don't like using the mouse for action, so maybe it's a me problem.

This is gonna sound odd but I'm somewhat certain that bad/unfamiliar controls have a weird mesmerized effect, especially on people who are "used" to games.pic could've very easily been a tank-controls or third-person with first person while aiming but I doubt I would've found it as engrossing if the controls were better. It was a similar strange experience as when I first played Drakengard 1 which had jarringly bad controlsAny other examples of this worth studying? It's such a strange phenomenon

>>565566705>LLM code tends to become unmaintainable slopAI is just like me fr.
Dance of Elements. This game is in a much better shape than the first time I played it. Most of the issues have been fixed. It's really fun to see many elemental moves acting at the same time, many of which change the environment and stay for a while. I also think it's neat that there are 4 stamina bars for each element so you can't just use one forever. The gauntlet is also fun, it's just what this game needed. Some small suggestions: I really think you should add a button for switching from one element to the next, that would make it a lot smoother to me. There should be an option to toggle the white outline for the player character, I think he looks better all black. Lastly, sometimes the player character changes colors (when he is burned I think) and it's hard to see which stickman you are in gauntlet mode, I think he should stay always black.

>>565565895Old Armored Core games come to mind. Before they switched to the twin stick scheme the controls were kinda weird but also pretty fucking good once you got used to them. Tenchu 1(and 2?) also has some truly bizarre controls for modern sensibilities. There is a certain charm to games that control differently but I think it's quite the risk to make your game like that if it's in a genre with strong control standards.

Imagine if it had regular fps controls. You wouldn't be able to fail the demo missions. It wouldn't be the same game. in most cases no one knows why games make it or flop. you can take any example and find similar games that had a completely different fate.>it's not true, I know why. pattern recognition. high iq.if you could be right about any stock or commodity (any!) 60% of the time, you could become a multi-millionaire in 2 years and a billionaire in 10 years. turns out it's really hard to be right about something that volatile 60% of the time so when you think you know shit, you're probably wrong about that too.

one thing i try to be careful about is not copying a game and changing something that was a conscious decision.e.g. zomboid has isometric perspective and the 3D models for zombies etc are extremely low poly. this is actually important from technical aspects when you have a huge horde of zombies roaming and they all have their own equipment (helmets, jeans, backpack, shoes etc.)you could falsely assume "man i'm gonna make zomboid but first-person". but then you suddenly need higher res models and suddenly you can't render that many zombies anymore. also now you look into the distance instead of top-down and suddenly you also have to render zombies far away and also all the houses/terrain far away.basically you now ruined what makes the game great, by trying to "improve it". you made it fancier and first-person, but now there are less zombies roaming etc.or you try to make it prettier with good looking modular building etc. - yet you can't really tear down the world anymore like in a grid-based game where you can destroy each single cell etc.and ofc modular-building again makes performance worse than meshing a chunk into one mesh. and also it makes building a navmesh etc. way harder. or now you can't do flood fill lighting anymore and use the light value to determine gameplay stuff like plant-growth, visibility, moods based on darkness etc. etc.
>>565574986If it makes you feel any better i am willing to play, review and maybe even make videos of your game once i am able to afford it.
>>565569739Sorry, anon. It loads a window and then crashes. Can you upload a version with a terminal window or something so I can report error messages. Maybe you forgot to include some .dll on the main folder? I was really curious about this game, hope you can fix it.
