You don't seem to understand.
I could get zero players, and you know what ? I probably will. But if I'm satisfied with what I've put out, then that's all that matters at the end of the day. If I can say "I gave it my all and produced something that actually matters to me on a personal level" then it'll be okay.

You would think so. Everyone kind of projects their own competence and high IQ onto the slopper though, I have noticed that. I really think it's just a soulless husk of a person who has been swept up by the kind of religious fervor that sloppers have. If you check out their hangouts on reddit and X you will see, they are all a hivemind of extremely shallow beings with infinite time on their hand and a grudge against humanity for not worshipping their ability to use their paid LLM services. It's almost frightening.

I do actually hope I can get actual attention for the game, but even just making it the way I wanted to make it is the baseline for what I consider a successful project.
I don't consider this a hobby or a job, I consider this a passion. I feel an insatiable hunger to just make this one thing because I've been dreaming about making a game since I was a boy

it was oddly compelling. could do with some control explanation. the stompy guy has great heft. camera is pretty random(zoomed out here for some reason?). and the WASD directional control doesn't seem grounded right? like it should be camera/screen relative, but here i had to guess which way WASD would send me at times.
>>

just as all the 'cord faggots seething about the actual state of agdg
>>
>>565536938
Huh. I thought I removed that.
Did it happen specifically with the chicken? Because that shouldn’t be happening. I’ll investigate that.
>>
>>565536825
So adding “Make movement feel more natural” to my current checklist of shit I gotta get done. Probably need to rework the fucking run animations and perhaps add IK.
>>
>>565536945
I think the camera relativity is lost if you are holding down keys. if I let go and press a direction it does seem right. but if I am running with W, and then press a direction, it's weird.
>>
blog, u can ignore. i lost direction of my game the past three days, led to almost no meaningful work.

i think i found it again, but it's weird when i get stuck like this. it's like i just refuse to move. anyone know what im talking about?

its because my game wasn't fun, and i thought the systems i built for it would be enough, but it just isn't. i have an idea on how to fix it, but im paralyzed. it finally went away today, but man, did it cost a week of despair and depression. hopefully this new direction makes it fun and kino.
>>
>>565537312
Oh, that.
Actually that was intentional. It’s meant to keep you “Sailing” through camera changes without suddenly turning around if that makes a lick of sense
>>
>>565537039
I couldn't tell who hit me. both were up in my face when it happened
>>
>>565537415
Alright, that’s really weird.
Here’s how that works
The chicken specifically has a “Grab” for its charge attack in the form of a box collider that “Catches” the player.
This is triggered via animation events. What I find odd that I designed it to DISABLE after either a set period OR if the enemy was damaged. Perhaps it being near another entity caused the bug? Or maybe the player being damaged fucked it
I’ll have to look into that.
>>
>>565537708
So, my to-do list
>Add textures to the environment and make it atmospheric
>Fix combat bugs and movement bugs
>Make the animations for both players and enemies flow into each other better
>Add trees and buildings with props/interiors
>Add proper interaction n’ shit
>>
>>565490803
From what I remember changing the canvas mode after you've made an UI in it can fuck things up. So yeah you probably need to make a new canvas, set the settings correctly and then build it again. You might be able to copy things over or at least you have the old one for reference.

Imagine "The Warp" from Warhammer 40K, in other words a void where the craziest stuff imaginable is occurring, but unlike in 40K it's not all nightmarish beyond comprehension, it equally has areas beautiful/utopian beyond comprehension. It's a void, so everything in flying around or floating in it, which includes players, but also castles, islands, airships, crazy creatures, demonic "god" entities, etc, once again like Warhammer 40K's The Warp. And that's the entire game, a 100+ player multiplayer sandbox in The Warp. You can't leave The Warp because you're already dead.

every contact point you interact with at Steam is to a non-Valve outsourcer acting on a set of instructions laid out for them by Valve that apply to most cases. this is an unusual request outside of the set instructions requiring contact with ACTUAL Valve staff of which literally none of them want to interact with customers/indiedevs.

149 days left according to my slightly revised schedule. I owe 15 hours of work to my game. Yesterday was my third day of working on the pointless tutorial, although I did spend 2 hours fixing a nasty physics bug. I'm hoping to finish the tutorial today and move onto something else. I need some bug fix updates for my existing games.

>>565542680
I'm considering switching to caffeine pills because I don't like coffee at all. The ones I have are 200mg so it's more like a jolt than a steady dose.
>>
>>565543973
i love coffee so much my doctor told me to stop drinking it years ago when i got my GERD diagnosis but I just ignored them before it became just too painful.

however, unlike the act of just having a cup in the morning, which was mostly ritualistic desu, didnt do much energy wise, taking the pills has been great for all day energy. doesnt fuck with my stomach at all.

i have 100s i cut in half, so u can just take a pill cutter and cut yours into fourths if you wanna try the same thing. the coffee jolt+crash kinda sucks but if you take it slow and consistent its like a very smooth cruise instead of a roller coaster and honestly its been helping a lot with actually getting stuff done

This becomes less daunting with experience, and as your aptitude for organizing things increases eventually even the sloppy stuff is no problem and your brain is able to keep tabs on thousands of items. Brains are extremely powerful, not even just human brains. Animals are able to cache food and remember hundreds or thousands of locations. Some are funny though, like smaller animals like squirrels will stash food in countless places and even forget where most of it is. But we are not squirrels. Our brains are huge.

>The Clark’s nutcracker is widely recognized for remembering the most food caches, storing up to 30,000 seeds annually and successfully retrieving them months later, even under deep snow. This bird possesses a nearly eidetic memory and a disproportionately large hippocampus, allowing it to recall thousands of specific spatial locations

where are all the extraction fantasy games

the classic go to a dungeon and return to town to sell your loot trope is basically an extraction game loop but there's really not many games that lean into that
>>
i think it's pretty simple what people want in games. they want real life without humans. at best, they want the human npcs to be slaves that do what they want.
why? because people actually love nature and reality, they just hate that they got cucked by more powerful humans (they own no land, no resources, no animals etc. anymore)
we actually live in a world with MASSIVELY overpowered players that own everything.
people just "flee" into the virtual world. that doesn't mean they hate nature etc. - it means they have being outpowered.
i mean, literally 99% of social media content nowadays is about people talking about how they have no power, no resources, nothing. not even friends and sex.
well, maybe they don't even wants npcs to be "slaves", but at least they should be friendly and fair to you. "sharing the world with you", rather than forcing you to live on a 16x16 cuckplot on an overpopulated minecraft server.
>>

>>
>>565560758
it might be part of many rpgs but it comes as a natural part of the rest of the gameplay experience not the main thing

what if you made a fantasy game where the goal is to dive into a dungeon, find good loot and extract with said loot and you could do all the usual meta prog stuff improving your crafting options character upgrades and whatever else
>>
to me, failure is when you weren't able to make your dream game. at least if that was your first goal when you went into gamedev.
it's like someone playing a dungeon crawler and not being able to progress anymore, and they tell everybody "but i spend all day farming gold and i'm really rich". you didn't be the game you started playing, you just coped by redefining the goal. you basically failed.

Recoil Rush. The movement is excellent, it's fun to gain momentum and jump on walls. The fact that the pistol's projectile reflects on slopes should've been pointed out. I also typically just use one gun through the game, don't need to use the rest mostly. I got filtered by stage 4. I think the airborne kick should be instant, the animation is too slow and it's frustrating when you keep missing the target because of it.

I also really have to say that the aesthetic reminds me of old flash games, I really like it. Maybe it's the music.

This is gonna sound odd but I'm somewhat certain that bad/unfamiliar controls have a weird mesmerized effect, especially on people who are "used" to games.

pic could've very easily been a tank-controls or third-person with first person while aiming but I doubt I would've found it as engrossing if the controls were better.
It was a similar strange experience as when I first played Drakengard 1 which had jarringly bad controls

Any other examples of this worth studying? It's such a strange phenomenon

Dance of Elements. This game is in a much better shape than the first time I played it. Most of the issues have been fixed. It's really fun to see many elemental moves acting at the same time, many of which change the environment and stay for a while. I also think it's neat that there are 4 stamina bars for each element so you can't just use one forever. The gauntlet is also fun, it's just what this game needed.

Some small suggestions: I really think you should add a button for switching from one element to the next, that would make it a lot smoother to me. There should be an option to toggle the white outline for the player character, I think he looks better all black. Lastly, sometimes the player character changes colors (when he is burned I think) and it's hard to see which stickman you are in gauntlet mode, I think he should stay always black.

but the factor he spoke about could be true, if you were locked in a cage and forced to play, because it hinges on the primordial concept of neuro plasticity and the perceptual divergence that can occur as your mind is forced to subliminally consume the entire games aura while being forced to re-adapt to the poor input scheme
>>
>>565565895
Old Armored Core games come to mind. Before they switched to the twin stick scheme the controls were kinda weird but also pretty fucking good once you got used to them. Tenchu 1(and 2?) also has some truly bizarre controls for modern sensibilities.

There is a certain charm to games that control differently but I think it's quite the risk to make your game like that if it's in a genre with strong control standards.

I had to play it out of curiosity. I think it's the sort of game where the controls grow on you over time. It was kinda starting to click for me after failing the second mission a few times. They will always be a bit jank but if they weren't the game would be way too easy. Imagine if it had regular fps controls. You wouldn't be able to fail the demo missions. It wouldn't be the same game. The entire game is figuring out the controls puzzle and mastering it to be able to complete the missions.

Interesting note the demo has almost 1000 reviews 96% positive.

in most cases no one knows why games make it or flop. you can take any example and find similar games that had a completely different fate.

>it's not true, I know why. pattern recognition. high iq.
if you could be right about any stock or commodity (any!) 60% of the time, you could become a multi-millionaire in 2 years and a billionaire in 10 years. turns out it's really hard to be right about something that volatile 60% of the time so when you think you know shit, you're probably wrong about that too.

This is a thing with automobiles where various manufacturers, usually italian, do things like make the steering wheel a weird size or put the pedals on the opposite side of the car and this causes the owners to become incredibly possessive of their vehicles and fanatical about their creators.

Any proof? While I can believe that number (whoring 24/7 on X, decent graphics, decent publisher), a lot of indies lie on the wishlist count because it's easy to hype that kind fo posts, makes your game looks better than what it actually is, and retarded "Did you know about this indie game? It looks amazing!" xitters like "best indie games" account will only promote your game if it has high wishlists count.

one thing i try to be careful about is not copying a game and changing something that was a conscious decision.
e.g. zomboid has isometric perspective and the 3D models for zombies etc are extremely low poly. this is actually important from technical aspects when you have a huge horde of zombies roaming and they all have their own equipment (helmets, jeans, backpack, shoes etc.)
you could falsely assume "man i'm gonna make zomboid but first-person". but then you suddenly need higher res models and suddenly you can't render that many zombies anymore. also now you look into the distance instead of top-down and suddenly you also have to render zombies far away and also all the houses/terrain far away.
basically you now ruined what makes the game great, by trying to "improve it". you made it fancier and first-person, but now there are less zombies roaming etc.
or you try to make it prettier with good looking modular building etc. - yet you can't really tear down the world anymore like in a grid-based game where you can destroy each single cell etc.
and ofc modular-building again makes performance worse than meshing a chunk into one mesh. and also it makes building a navmesh etc. way harder. or now you can't do flood fill lighting anymore and use the light value to determine gameplay stuff like plant-growth, visibility, moods based on darkness etc. etc.
>>
>>565574986
If it makes you feel any better i am willing to play, review and maybe even make videos of your game once i am able to afford it.

No, Jesus Himself never stood there and take anything bad anyone said about Him, especially the Jewish leaders, and His disciples were savage when rebuking others, Paul even once made a man go blind for speaking against him.
Jesus never said "let others walk over you." or anything like that. Christian pacifism is a fraud, a lie made to make Christians accept sin instead of fighting against it like what God wants, what the disciples did even after Jesus died.
Not to mention you're not one to talk with you bully behavior, you're acting exactly like the Jews who got Jesus crucified in the first place.

the most dangerous mindset is believe that there is nothing meaningful left that you personally could explore. that everything has been discovered already, and that you don't have the means to discover anything beyond that. it's a mindset that gives up on exploration.
i guess that's the job of artists. they had to paint visions, they had to paint fantasies. just in order for the explorers to search for the means to make those fantasies a reality.

That one meme word, "performative" and bots or bot like mentality. People will click the like button, reblog post, or add to wishlist without any care. It's the simplest way to show support. They never cared to play or buy said game at the end.
>>
>>565579286
I'm using it as a test app at the moment, I'm running the tracker as a separate app secretly in the background and stealing its screen and showing that in my app as a texture that I can move around, then I just need to pipe input clicks on that texture to offset and scale the coordinates and then inject those into the SDL message queue on the remote app, and it should all work. and I had the tracker because I was going to use it with a silent instrument that the game watches to trigger event timing at the same time as audio things
>>

>>
>>565578295
>but then you suddenly need higher res models and suddenly you can't render that many zombies anymore
a non issue for modern hardware

the real issue is producing that high fidelity art or art that looks good in first person and just how fucking much of it you need to fill a game
>>
is it fair the successful games pay more steam taxes than small games profiting from the same platform?
>>
>>565579235
Modern YouTubers have a no-lose policy so they'll avoid any game that could make them lose, and SoulQuest is one of those.
>>
>>565580426
Huh
>>
>>565580225
i get what you mean, but i think rendering a lot of zombies with different outfits and complex animation states (high res also requires more detailed rigs), still has a massive scaling cost. the zombies have to fall over fences, they have to crawl on the floor, bite you, smash windows etc. etc. - it's not like in bullet hells where they just walk and die.
>>
>>565579963
trick your brain into doing something like this
"i will get up and turn on my pc solely so i can play games and NOTHING ELSE"
but once you get up, you close the game and continue devving
you can replace playing gaymes with something else that you love doing of course
>>

This looks like shit to play. Aiming a ranged weapon with your movement? Is this fucking 1985? The levels look boring too. Flat planes with some props scattered about. Enemy layouts don't seem to have much thought behind them either.

I am a bit surprised it only has 1 review. It doesn't look THAT bad. On that part it could be a failure to market it.

>>565578673
What the fuck is that price. This looks like a $2 game. If it was $2 it could see it having some reviews.
>>
>>565580149
Was gonna write a long post, but I'll keep it short. People see the hype (twitter post chains) and join in, but don't buy until they see others enjoying it (streamer let's play). Then they buy. They don't show interest in something unless other's do first.
>>
>>565581057
can you prove that?
>>
>>565580887
it's hard to learn from failure, in an industry like this. not trying to crab, but its something i genuinely struggle with.

Although, I feel like failure would help know the market more than a successful game. I feel like if i got a successful game, id still dont know what my next game would be that would also make money.

it has a higher scaling cost but it really doesn't matter that much if the code is built to handle a lot of characters and that applies to a top-down game as well

maybe you couldn't do 100 zombies on screen but how many first person games needs that many? realistically you're looking at like 5-20 zombies at a time

l4d hordes were about 30 zombies and they don't even show up at once

making money is not your responsibility. your only responsibility are things you can grasp with your brain. responsibility requires knowledge and power, otherwise it's only an illusion of responsibility. that's why people play dumb to avoid responsibility. but also why people who feel intelligent think they are responsible for things they can't control (out of their need for control).
my rule of thumb: if you can identify a complex system, then it is a system with shared responsibility and therefore not being controlled by a single entity. the economy is definitely a complex system. trying to predict what makes money is like trying to predict what's the weather in 4 weeks. it's impossible.
i think because of the internet and social media we live in a time where people can't accurately determine their responsibilities anymore, because it's all too connected.
and then people go into extremes of absolute victim mentality or absolute control illusion. fact is: you are both, you are a victim of luck and circumstances, but also responsible for things you definitely know and have power over. e.g. you definitely know that if you don't close your water tap it'll create a massive water bill. and if you don't do it, you are definitely liable for the bill. or you know that if you don't pay your rent, your contract will be canceled, therefore you a responsible to pay the bill. if you don't have the money for the bill and you have no power/knowledge to make money, you are not responsible for the circumstances/situation, you are a victim. if you know that the grocery store will pay you money and you refuse to do so, even if you know they offer a job and you have the power to do the job, then you are liable and you have to live with the fact that you get kicked out.
but even that isn't fully under your control. i try to limit responsibility to small doses where it's "common sense".

Most people are utter fucking morons. They buy what they are told to buy. That might come from the media they read or watch, or from their friends if they have them. It is rare to have someone go looking in steam or elsewhere for games to buy. I'd claim it's less than 20% of steam users and it might be much worse than that.

>>565582649
It could be but I think it's mostly to do with people being NPC tier sheep who can't think for themselves. The thought process necessary to look at games and decide to buy one that looks good to them is too much to ask from them. It is not a decision they can make alone. They need an outside impulse to buy a game and to play it.

If you know how to netcode a bit and some 3d, just look at the popular minecraft/roblox mods and minigames, copy those and launch on steam. It's been proven to work, look at Far Far West (minecraft mod) lately

i was hanging with my zoomie cousin and thats how he discovered it

there is nothing better than sandbox games where you just hop in and start progressing. that's why i loved old mmorpgs without stories. if you then have enough content to at least keep people busy for 30 hours+, then everything's well.
if you wouldn't use a wiki you'd literally spend 500 hours in that game just to discover all the unique recipes. well, you played it right? you know all the features it has!?

it turns out whatever 4chan calls slop is actually well made when you actually play it. (i exclude dei-slop from this statement)
they always try to reduce the quality of a game to the idea instead of the execution. "hurr durr drug dealer game? that's so unoriginal", yeah, but it's well made.

I was genuinely curious about what you think the benefit is to gamedevs. if making games becomes easier, there will be even more games (both good and bad) competing for the mostly constant time/attention/money from an audience

i keep noticing how i refuse to dev anymore, because i'm like 100% sure i'll burn myself out. i actually heard of someone having autism that he keeps setting alarm clocks, because he loses sense of time and suddenly 6 hours of work feel like 30 minutes. i think a brain that is good at forgetting the human needs is good at doing great things, but is also extremely self-destructive.
it's not even just about physical health, i also forget to have fun, or i'm too burnt out to enjoy fun things or even talk to anybody. also when i'm too focused on work i have absolutely no topics anymore i can talk to with non-devs. it's like my life is falling apart as soon as i start my dev autism. and i know for sure that i can't balance it, my brain just isn't able to handle it. it's like avoiding even tiny amounts of drugs because you know once you start it goes wrong.

ok but what when anyone can make a game as easily as they can make an image? would that benefit you or harm you as a gamedev?
>>
>>565585441
i believe you
>>
>>565585750
my brother u are already burnt out thats why its hard for you
take a long break. play some good gams just do something different you cant force it

Are pro fighters scared that the guy over there can throw punches? Are pro racers scared of commuters? Are athletes scared of someone running across the street? The answer is no; the same applies here.
>>
>>565585914
and then? i'll just come back and burn out again. i need to find better ways that are more sustainable. or need to fix my subconscious mind that probably causes this behavior.

we are already at this point
its just that everyone is gatekeeping their flow
>>
>>565585860
most people don't have the drive to do it for real.
we saw this with AI art and comics. where are all the AI comics? the handful that exist maybe got a oneshot? did AI harm comic makers all that much?

well, considering that anyone here can instantly generate porn and sell it just like people have been doing for the last 100 years ...
is anyone here rich off of generated porn? I know a few people are still rich off of drawn porn.
>>
>>565586294
why would any sensible person spread the word instead of harvesting the golden eggs

You can literally go into the porn section of steam and 99% of the top selling use AI art.

but it actually is original though

how many drug dealer games are out there?

glad you liked it bro. i'll have to tweak the speed and size of the axe kick, you're supposed to have to time it but it's too unforgiving right now, especially trying to kick away a homing missile

brilliant play on the devs part if they make it to market before pvkk

is there any reason i shouldn't use godot 4.7 beta1 other than "it's godot"
