Is that the furthest you've gone, or did you drive more and nothing happened anyway?
I tried to tow another car once, and it ended badly. So I hooked two normal cars up, and drove at 4mph. Nothing happened at first, but after about 10 tiles the towed vehicle rubber banded towards the first at a much higher speed, smashing my trunk. Experimented with different speeds and still couldn't avoid the sudden jumps, ruining the back of the car completely. Maybe it's been fixed since, but be aware that if it hasn't, don't risk damaging anything important.

By the way, that's one of those military bases with the minefield, right? Does anyone know if there's any hidden passageways inside the base or something? I cleared one not long ago, but walking around the base I'm experiencing weird lag, as if there's like a thousand slimes down there or something. No noises, but I'm certain I've explored every tile within the base, couldn't find shit.

Well, 3 or 4 of the buildings were connected by a tunnel, and there was some kinda meeting room with a military map inside the tunnel, but I don't remember any robots. Do you mean the bio-op zombies? I guess they're sort of robots. Maybe it's a variant thing as well.
I guess there might be a subway going under the base and there's some action there or something.

I think Nethack shat the bed with the 3.6 release. It's a venerable old game, but I don't like the direction the current devteam is going, and so have zero interest in their new release.
But I do share your pain that there's little love for full-on roguelikes in the /rlg/ anymore.

if you have the heavy duty tow cable you can absolutely drag vehicles with busted wheels if your vehicle is powerful and heavy enough
I've dragged busted military humvees out of their checkpoints before in BN, for example, but that was before the recent tow and charging cable rework
funnily enough they tilled the ground when I did that

i never got around to trying this, but i was wondering is if you could set up remote control driving for the lead car, and stay in the towed vehicles driver seat, so whenever you had to slow down, you take over control of the towed vehicle and slow down, so you wouldnt just slam into the back of the lead car. no idea how the game would handle you using brakes in a towed vehicle tho.

basically, a chariot.

have you checked the cars condition. hit (m) i think to see if anything can be fixed, and in the issues to be fixed, you may sometimes see that the car as an immobilizer active.

it doesn't display the vehicle UI and heading indicator for the vehicle, so it's a nightmare to tell what it's up to and what your button presses are about to do if you haven't kept track of every single input you've made from a known starting position
I've used it a lot and it's 95% amazing, the best and most convenient thing I've ever used, and 5% running yourself over or running into parked cars
also hitting ^ to attempt to activate the headlights or stop driving will crash the game

what terrain is it on? if the traction/wheels are not sufficent for the vehicle it could be bogged down.

which reminds me of another issue with towing. if you move off a road and onto grass, the towed car is still on road until it hits the grass, while your already slowed down by grass, and it just rear ends you. that sucks.
