>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Hope Espiocracy doesn't move their release window if you can even call it that again.
It's one of those cases where so much time passes between finding a game and it coming out, that I worry that by the time it's playable I'll move on to other interests and not care anymore

Indie persona clone? 50/50 mix between social life simulator and another genre? Writing this made me realize rune factory is a persona clone...

If you're looking for a Soulslike experience, Lies of P is great. Code Vein's combat felt floaty and the level design wasn't very good. I'd honestly recommend Wuchang and Lords of the Fallen over it and both of those games are mediocre.
>>565962250
Demonschool is unashamedly Persona-inspired. Prodigal is a Link's Awakening-like with a sizable focus on interacting with the local townsfolk.
>50/50 mix between social life simulator and another genre?
Really depends on how involved you want the social aspects to be. Arguably Shadowrun Dragonfall and Hong Kong (you can run around town and talk to everyone between missions). Does camping out with your party in a WRPG count as social life sim?

This stupid fucking fighht can still tongue my god damn anus. Can you actually just be good game designers and let your players idk play the game? Nah. It's fun. It's creative. Let's play sonic where you can't run. Let's play mario where you can't jump.

I had a fucking setup that should have objectively worked too.

Dear diary. Today there was a big ass fucking spider at my window. I've made enough progress to careful get up and close the window but I am still stuck in my hypervigilante state of mind. I even jumped off my bed when my hair touched my neck while writing this entry. Can you believe it? Ah if only you could speak and suggest to me a game to calm me down while I wait for my beta blockers to start working. Hint hint...

More seriously. Can you guys suggest me a cozy game to play for the next 10 or so hours while I'm at low tension? Here are recent games I've liked.

Song of Syx is another baby Dwarf Fortress, and I'd just recommend Elin for its freeform settlement building. It isn't core to the game but it can be a satisfying sandbox if it's up your alley.

Elona to some extent but it's more on the "schizo tries to make minecraft from memory" side of the scale.

Yeah, this as well as my very first playthrough have been 1 Physique runs and it did give me a game over or two when I was low on health item. I actually also crashed into Lena this time around, but already had a healing item from somewhere in the Whirling.
What's extra funny is that you can soft-lock yourself in the harbor, by jumping over the wall with no way to get back unless you sit on the chair, which can kill you. I think the harbor does open up at midnight, but if you're unlucky, you won't find enough dialogue to skip that much time.

Idk if you are the same, but I am just tired from adult life and I have so little time now.

I sometimes jump on long games and just start to feel burned out at some point, and fomo for other things I wish I could be playing instead. Feels like such a commitment to play a "real" game with clear start and finish now. Anything that promises to be immersive or an epic rpg quest just puts me off.

Playing something cozy and low commitment, like holocure and balatro, some city builder, its so much more attractive for me nowadays. I have the same issue with movies.

I don't want to say it but I think Chinese people sort of ruin gaming. The attacks on the Slay the Spire devs by the Chinamen are insane. They removed some easy infinites and the Chinese flipped out. I think the Chinese gaming culture actually is a cancer to the games industry. Its so bad that Path of Exile had to give them their own server build that includes weird gacha shit and pay to win aspects because its so expected in Chinese gaming culture. Why is that? Am I wrong? Is Chinese gaming culture actually not cancer?

China and Korea, both are some of the absolute worst offenders when it comes to literal cheating and P2W as it has been hard wired into the culture somehow when it comes to competitive shit, I don't know why.
>>
>>566069316
I once read that in China and possibly Korea that their work / life balance is so fucked. SO if you wanted to actually be good at a game or farm up something etc, you basically have no time to do that. So the next best thing is just paying to get said items. I would say it sort of checks out because I hear very very negative things about Chinese and Korean work life balance. Weird shit like the expectation that you go out with co workers to bars AFTER work. So you work your 12+ hour day and then go to a bar for 1-2 more hours or some shit. Sounds fucking hellish.

I love Reaper. I love it's big, meaty hits. I love it's range. I love it's down attack. I love it's little minigame with the silk orbs.
I hate Reaper. I hate that it's big, meaty hits don't actually do any more damage than anything else, they're just slower, because fuck you. I hate that it's range just goes away when you attack upwards and it becomes stupidly narrow for no reason. I hate that it's down attack is so good partially because every other down attack is some diagonal dive that never, ever starts feeling good. I hate that it's little minigame pales in comparison to the the special effects of every other crest, and isn't even the best silk generator despite being the only thing it does.
I love Silksong. I hate Silksong.

What is it with Chinese modders and making some of the most wackass mods ever? Stellaris, Rimworld, Starsector, even fucking Barotrauma. If there's a chinese subcommunity, chances are they're making the most egregiously busted bullshit that utilizes 3 entirely new mechanics that could revolutionize the modding scene if anyone could read the code.
But it only works if they're a minority of the community, cause chinese-majority games like Amazing Cultivation Simulator or Duckov ain't got dick.

Nobody who isn't a chink will change their mind based on an obvious review bomb covered in angry scribles or MTL rant with their trademark the-developers-should-eat-my-shit style of outrage.
Nobody who is into STS to begin with will care because they don't have to interact with chinks and if they liked 1 they know 2 will be good for them too.
Literally just ignore them. What are they gonna do? Cross the great firewall and do anything? Not fucking likely, otherwise they'd overthrow their overlords first.

Just defeated the boss at the end of Trollhole. That area was really claustrophobic, a change of pace from the open areas I've seen thus far, and it really played upon my fear of and fascination with sea monsters where you only see their tentacles. It was kind of mediocre. Shovel Knight took a couple of levels to really wow me though so I am still interested in seeing how the full release pans out.
My main issue is that the platforming doesn't pair well with the overhead POV.

>>566129225
ΔV: Rings of Saturn. It attempts to be hard science simulation for the physics of things. It's got a demo that's just the full fuckin' game because the dev is pretty cool about it. Quick and dirty is you're a captain of a mining ship on Enceladus Prime. You do dives into the rings to bring ore and other interesting things back to the station. There's a lot of things to discover out on the rings. Like that moonlet I cruised by. I'm currently using the starter ship, kitted out for salvage and bounty hunting. I'm running an actuator arm for grabbin' things (like salvagable ships), a point defense microwave generator to disable the computers of pirates' ships, and a railgun to (hopefully) blow a hole in their fuel tanks. I'm not huge into battle, but it's few and far enough between fights that overall the experience is REALLY zen if it's your cup of tea.

Wizordrum.
People in Grimbrook dug too deeply and too greedily, and opened a gate to hell, which manifested as "chaos" possessing all manners of ill-behaving goblins and undeads.
Plays like a Hexen-like, except you can't jump and can't even fall off, the game is strictly 2D. Which makes it extremely easy to make maps for, I assume.

Have any preference when it come to genre? You could always pirate Teardown, its basically a puzzle game where you have to figure out how to complete objectives within a destructible map, ie gotta steal a safe from an office 2nd floor? Make a hole in the wall and push the safe unto a boxtruck juryrigged into a flatbed, its fun to figure out an optimal route as certain missions are actually complex and need clever placement, especially at the start of campaign when you dont have a lot of tools at your disposal.

No shame in telling peoples to pirate it as the original dev sold the rights to some investment firm, the Embracer Group, which turned out how youd expect and is a can of worm I dont want to get into right now.

Forgot to add, there is the Timesplitter series which is a treasure trove, albeit it probably dont count as a true retro game. Deus Ex is also pretty good albeit janky, also stay the fuck away from the remaster and just get the original with a fan patch for the same thing at a fraction of the price. Of most recent release, there is Hands of Necromancy 1 & 2, Hedon Bloodrite and Coven that comes to mind as genuinely fun.

Fancy items don't have a negative bonus to stealth, just a + to leadership. Generally there's never penalties for looks, only for more physical things. Heavy armour has a stealth penalty for example, but it also negates a lot of damage in a fight.

I have some kind of autism that makes me want to have all my games in one place on Steam, so my GOG library is quite small.
As for pirating, it's usually games by bigger companies like Rockstar or Ubishit that I want to take for a spin, games with way too many DLC (like paradox games for instance) or anything where I just want to be on the safer side about the 2h refund window.
There have been a handful of cases, where I ended up buying a game I had pirated prior after enjoying it enough to figure I might aswell give the devs some moeny.

Yes. The core of it attempts to be as true to life with the scale and physics and stuff as possible. I traveled from the edge of the rings to the Keeler Gap last night. Granted, pausing caused a bit more time to be padded in. I got there in a few hours. I skipped the interaction this time and had my astrogator plot a course further into the rings where I'd gotten a big lidar contact from another ringa earlier.

There's quite a few of those these days. What you're seeing isn't very realistic though--the real rings of saturn are mostly tiny specks of ice, the size of water droplets.

But DV has a really cool heatpunk take on how near-future spacecraft could work.
As you know, all real life spacecraft ever are designed from the principle of operating cold, basically near zero kelvin, with minimal energy budgets to avoid issues with inefficiency aka waste heat. Even in hard scifi like The Expanse, ships can run cool due to magic 100% efficiency engines that won't dump gigawatts of waste heat onto the ship after burning at 1g for days.
Tech is not that advanced in this game. See the last line of that stat readout on the right? That motherfucker is running a molten core reactor and a primary coolant loop hot enough to glow like a star. DV approaches its ship design from first principles and realizes that in order to do useful work like depicted in most scifi, ships need much larger energy budgets than any real existing or proposed spacecraft, on the scale of megawatts. Where are you going to get that much energy on spaceship without magic tech? Nuclear solves that and no I don't mean a fucking RTG. But how are you going to keep a reactor cool? That'd be quite the design conundrum. Seems like a completely insane idea until you forgo the "keep everything cold" principle that guides so much of modern spacecraft design and start designing ships to run near molten metal temperatures, even if that is poses its own risks and engineering challenges. The big advantage comes from stefan-boltzmann law: Radiant exitance is proportional to the FOURTH power of temperature. So if you run your radiators glowing hot like a star, it's going to dump that waste heat out into space as efficiently as a star. 3500-4000K is still not a lot in terms of that, but it's barely feasible within known material science.

I remember it was quite funny to me when they turned Crusader Kings II into a free to play game with optional subscription access to the DLC and people got upset.
Because the game de facto already subscription if you want to stay up to date by buying a new DLC every 6-12 months and it's gotten to the point where a new player would probably save money with the subscription as opposed to however expensive it would be to get all the DLC at once.
Either way that's the only pradox game I indulged them with this garbage.
>>
>>566258181
The curse of passive / low energy spacecraft design is real.

Look at this fucking thing. Wow, those white things are some giant solar panels huh? WRONG. They are radiators. And they're just barely enough to maintain the station's temperature even though everything it does is constrained by its minimal energy budget. Because at ~300 K, they're barely radiating any energy away. If a spacecraft of this size was designed with DV's principles it wouldn't need any solar panels and only tiny radiators. If we ever get heavy industry in space, it won't look like this, but it might borrow some ideas from DV.

Feel you. I think being lost at sea or deep underwater is already bad enough, but space is even more terrifying. I remember Prey had a moment, where you could float out to a space shuttle that was less than 200m from the station, and even that filled me with a primal dread as soon as I was about halfway there and couldn't see the station in my peripheral vision. Hadn't felt that kind of dread since subnautica probably.
Also speaking of being stranded, Passengers even though I've seen someone suggest an edit that massively improves the movie and I can't get out of my head, We Who Are About To and that one part in the second Hyperion book also each have their own version of terrifying loneliness.

tl;dr shadowbringer + blight buffing skills + spam divinity + some notdie2dudes skills

Strengths: everything gets fucking melted and the damage infinitely scales with the enemy because their health pools just keep getting bigger and bigger. Also if some of my monsters die, they just keep getting revived over and over.

Weaknesses: Monsters that resist or are immune to blight. The occasional monster with a defense that you can't even write in the 4chan post box cuz it's so big.

Solution: 4080 laser beams the blightphobic and defensive freaks of nature away. Also I have a relic that increase Blight damage the more I do it throughout the fight.

I just got done playing this myself after like 50 hours, and just got tired of all of it. Breaking point was my guy ripping his overalls apart fixing his katana. It was the nearest and in inventory [cloth] [flexible] material applicable for the job after all!
It made me do some tests to the logic that characters perform when using tools, due to the constantly reported issue of characters using worse tools when better ones are available for some reason. (reports on the discord date back a year and a half at most).
First the character has to check if they have the tool in inventory. If not, find one in the map. It will prioritize the nearest tool first, regardless of its construction speed modifier. 2 tiles away 1x construction speed tool, and a 3 tile away 2x construction speed tool, prioritize the 2 tile away tool.
Next is if multiple tools available for the task are in inventory. Now I'm not a coding guy so bear with me. When you pick up a tool, that tool type is set to the character's memory. If you pick up a second tool of the same variety, it will not override the previous memory.
Pick up in order: a screwdriver, then a power drill. Your character will be first be using the screwdriver, until it breaks or is no longer available to them. Pick up in order: the power drill, then the screwdriver. The character will first use the power drill until it is out of charge, breaks, or is not available to them.
The 'solution' provided to players is to simply not have inferior tools around. Yes well that's fine and dandy, but then what about the weapon repair situation I described at the start? The game is checking for a cloth 'tool' in order to repair the weapon. My character's first or longest lasting memory would be the clothing I'm probably wearing. Am I meant to always hold 10 sheets of cloth on me, and make sure to put on my clothing *after* this? Am I meant to have no clothes around ever? What the fuck?

tl;dr: The game screams of technical debt to me.

Those things are on the endless list of weird behaviors that are annoying to figure out but once you do they are pretty much non-issue.

>tool priority
Always carry only the laser and green drill, tools solved.
(Keep a grinder somewhere on your ship for repairing blades.)

>resource priority
Carry a stack of clothes, problem solved.
Equipped clothes can't be used on repairs. As long as the cloth stack is in your backpack pocket slots it'll get used before any clothes in the backpack.

Or better, have a crate full of packs filled with all the spare parts (mobos, heatsinks, motors, screens, electronic/mechanical parts, alum/steel/carbon fiber/plastic/cloth scrap) Have it easily accessible and pick it up whenever you repair something, be it a haul of starship components, micrometeorite damage or your weapon. This will greatly streamline your life. But be aware that such a crate will weigh over a ton once full, you cannot carry it while under several gs of thrust. So you should also have some holden hull patches to temporarily seal micrometeorite holes while burning.

Technical debt has nothing to do with unorthodox gameplay systems. This kind of UI/UX jank is fixable and the tag-based item system comes from NEO Scavenger so it's already old and proven.

Technical debt implies poor software architecture design choices were made, leading to future maintenance nightmare. Ostranauts is the opposite, development is very slow (because the scope of the game is far too big) but the technical foundation is very good and maintainable, unllike, say, KSP. 0.15 just fixed the performance issues and made the game actually playable without the old optimization mod. The codebase is getting better not worse. That's the opposite of technical debt.

>endless list of weird behaviors
I see. Just deemed as quirks of the game by you.

>Always carry only the laser and green drill, tools solved.
Unfortunately the tools need to be maintained from time to time. I know the next logical step, just have a duplicate of the top quality tools. I think it would be prudent to have a backup weaker tool for tuning up more advanced and expensive tools.

>Carry a stack of clothes, problem solved.
I'm not going to accept this as the solution. That's even more egregious than the previous point.

>As long as the cloth stack is in your backpack pocket slots it'll get used before any clothes in the backpack.
I'd have to test this to be certain, but there's already clean scrap cloth stored in backpacks on the ship. As I'm in my EVA, one of my backpacks carried has my civvie clothing. If repair materials are called for in the same fashion as tools, that civvie clothing, a red overall (One of the few types of clothes you can fix) is held in memory to be used as the first material every time.

I'll cede that technical debt may not be the proper term for what I'm describing, but there will be growing pains if more types/tiers of tools are introduced or any additional material/object tag overlaps are required for future items. An example would be a new plastic item comes out, and requires a plastic material to fix it. It can either go for the plastic in your material backpacks, or your already carried (and perhaps freshly tagged) plastic items that you'd rather not part with (which will have priority).

Point is, if these underlying logic priorities remain, it will affect every addition thereafter, leading to far more time spent wrangling 'weird behaviors' rather than expanding the world. If you don't deem these worth considering, may it remain a difference of opinion.
>>
>>566393310
>I see. Just deemed as quirks of the game by you.
I'm not defending the game you cunt, I'm trying to help you. Yes the jank is infuriating and at times the UI/UX is worse than fucking Dorf Fort.

>Unfortunately the tools need to be maintained from time to time.
So keep a soldering iron somewhere on your ship to maintain your tools, this is not rocket science. Hell, keep a full collection of spare tools somewhere for roleplay reasons. Maybe you'll need them one day.
Not that your "from time to time" matters, pristine tools starting at 100% condition will need maintenance maybe once a year which is more than you will ever play. Once you have your tools set up, they are set up for good. It's batteries that drain charge and condition faster, so maybe quickly maintain them once in while a when swapping fresh ones from your charger eh?

>I'm not going to accept this as the solution.
Cry about it.
If you are going to maintain your weapon, pick up the resources needed for it or your character will use whatever is at hand. Just set up a routine for repairs to make things easier for yourself. You could even have a bag somewhere with the grinder and cloth, pick that up when maintaining your katana or other weapons for selling.

>I'll cede that technical debt may not be the proper term
Good.

>An example would be a new plastic item comes out, and requires a plastic material to fix it.
Yeah except that plastic hull parts and plastic scrap are already a thing and there are no problems whatsoever with the tag system in this case.
>>
>>566393310
Basically, I can see that your complaining is just seething because you didn't realize recipes that require cloth can also use intact clothes you intend to keep and you blindly fastforwarded through some lengthy repair operation without even noticing your clothes condition deteriorating. Shit sucks but get over it.

I don't think the game is ever going to change the way it iterates through inventory arrays (in >99% of games that's a under-the-hood thing that's not explained to players) or start prioritizing particular items instead of picking the first matching one the iterator sees, but a simple commonly used way to fix this UX issue would be letting the player tag items as important so they don't get used in crafting, won't appear in sell lists, you get a warning when they're dropped, etc.

A Frigate, Heavy Frigate, and a Ship of the Line. My first real look at any of them in this game.
Exampled more closely with the spyglass, my guy estimates the lowest crew they have on board is 400 and up to 750 sailors on them. God damn, that's even before considering the 36, 50 and 54 cannons on board them.
Here I am putzing around with 78 sailors and 18 (much smaller) cannons.

I'm on a alt timeline trying to get a specific ship before I hit rank 8 for an achievement, and my crew mutinies 100% of the time on the 30th of March or later. The problem is I can't get rid of any crew because of a special ship in port, and my crew is maxed out training so I can't beat the guys who rebel they have like 3x my HP and stats.
I'm stuck, unless I wanna reload my save from like a month ago and do it all over again or something.

>>566485437
That'll take some time to wrap your head around, anon. There's so few of anything that there's no clear best for anything, except what you're planning to dive for. You need to look at building a specialized craft for a purpose, and fit the tools accordingly. For example, I want to go out and find ships to haul back to the station like Little Tommy Tow Truck. I know I'll need to harvest some roids for propellent while I'm out, and there's always a chance that a pirate drifts in your general direction. ARM, MWG, and a railgun on a K37 or variant and I can reasonably defend myself around the rings while I look for derelicts. If I decide I don't want to haul anything, I can switch over to my Eagle Prospector. Differently tuned dual MWGs and haul drones. Just sit there and stuff my face for a while. How long have you put into the game, if I may ask?

The latter is restricted to the former colonies, and they tend to be proud of being retarded, mumbling things about "street-smart", or "I can be good at games if I want to" or "online pattern".

God damn it, finding out this quest has an achievement tied to it if you do it before level 8 has been my undoing. I loaded up an earlier save, went through all of the trouble of doing it earlier, but I'm so close to level 8 that I've no leeway. Now there's a huge all out brawl between two ship crews and I'm one kill away from level 8 so I can't help out.
Fuck.

I'm starting to think I just have a thing for games where yoou start weak and become a total overpowered death machine.
Vampire Survivors, Diablo, PoE (If you can fucking get there, in that autism hell), lots of tiny incremental/idle games, Risk of Rain 1&2, Borderlands games, probably a bunch more I can't think of. Starting from having a dagger and a dream, and ending by filling the entire screen with projectiles is just satisfying as all hell. Sadly this "genre" is also saturated with absolute slop.
>>
>>566528796
Dark Souls. There's something satisfying with starting with just a broken sword.

Get noita'd
>>
>>566531312
I can't get into noita. I'm too fucking dumb to make good wands, I never had a good run, I never got past the ice level. Every fucking noita run just has shit hit me from off-screen chipping away at my health till I'm fucked. I dunno, skill issue I guess, but I would enjoy it more if you had a heal or something.
>>
>>566532272
>but I would enjoy it more if you had a heal or something.
Noita has heals, but they're about as hard to put together as any other very good wand.
>>
>>566532794
There are heal options in the game, yeah. But I'm talking about having a guranteed heal. If I say: "I keep dying to annoying chip damage and it's frustrating, I wish I had a heal" then of course I'm not talking about the 1 in 20 runs where you do find some healing.
>>
>>566534572
It's 1 in 1 to get healing or close enough, but you have to have the skill to obtain a healing method. If you're just going "Oh boy I hope I can find a healing method randomly before Hissi Base" then yeah it's 1 in 20.
>>
>>566532272
You can always download mods, I know there is one that add a kind of save system so it could help until you get a good grip of the game, and just disregard the inevitable baiters who will go "muh cheat" because literally no one give a shit about how you personalize your own experience, especially in a single player game.

I mean I appreciate you guys trying to get me into what looks to be a pretty good game, but honestly it's just not for me. I took a couple stabs at it, I played about 6 hours, and it's just not fun for me, personally. So it goes into the "Good game but not for me" pile where it will likely stay.

Currently waiting for a specific ship I need to attack to pass by, but there's not enough time to fuck off to another colony and back and it'd be a waste of time to just sit there resting, so I'm exploring the land a bit.
There's actually a fair bit more to it than I thought, my only real land experience was the starting island which was just a bunch of linear jungle with a fort and a tiny cave, but there's actually a fair bit more to it elsewhere now I'd doing deeper exploration.

Kenshi would be right up your alley, you start as the literal bottom of the foodchain and have to survive, and by the mid to late game you're such a beast that not even veterans of other factions can touch you.

It is amusing to become such a master of martial art that you can straight up amputate bandits with your bare hands, like you're fighting one moment then you're seeing limbs fly across the screen the next.

The only issue is that it take fucking ages to get to that point, and need some cheesy methods to raise them at a reasonable pace, especially for thoughness which is one of the most obnoxious one to raise.

Sneaking into the middle of a British convoy undetected and sailing along with them while I line up my shot is incredibly satisfying. Even got to estimate their speed by matching mine to them as close as possible, allegedly that's a technique that submariners historically used.
This is the first time I managed to score a hit, to bad the torpedo didn't detonate because of mechanical failure. 8 hours in and I've yet to sink an enemy ship.

Sorry If I sound like a retard, I might be one. I don't like Caribbean Legend nor the devs because of their record shitting up one of my favourite game series with their dog shit quest design and utter refusal to let go of a engine from 2000's. Regatta is just another name for boat races, in Caribbean Legend and subsequently Sea Dogs: To Each His Own (which is what Caribbean Legend is, just a fucking patch for a 2009 mod but history of sea dogs is another story). If you try to take the quest, go on a global map and just swim to the checkpoints that way you will lose because your opponents will just teleport, you will most likely lose the race leader status and you will be jumped by spaniards because fuck you. To actually win it you have to max out the fuck out of your navigation, max out lugger stats (it has to be just a normal lugger, courier lugger is different because fuck you) and have all of the required amulets. Then you need to to turn on direct scale so that you can go between islands without going on global map and on top of that you have to abuse "swim to" menu option to teleport to the harbour, because if you don't you will lose. There's also a moment when your lugger gets attacked by brander and if it sinks it's explosion also takes you down. And it's faster by you.One of the way you deal with it was buying another ship, maxing out it's defence beforehand, putting it outside, going back to your lugger, go outing, watching brander explode said ship and sell the ship back. This all could've been a simple race. Sorry for the sperg out autism does it's things. To get the quest just do like 5-7 auto generated mail delivery quests and then a guy in a port will spawn to give you an invitation to said race. If you played this quest already and didn't have to experience any bullshit I've said then I am a liar faggot.

Well, I've wanted a good pirate sailing game for a very, VERY long time. Over 20 years at least I'm not sure about beyond that. Specifically what I've wanted is a really good simulation with little to no arcadey feel. where I can get a 1st / 3rd person close-up view during ship combat and for it to have 'weight' to it.
Sid Mier's Pirates wasn't it. Black Flag wasn't it, it was good but a touch too much like an arcade game for my taste and get this Assassin bullshit out of my pirate sim pls.

Closest I ever found was Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales 1 & 2 way back in the day. The ship combat was basically near perfect for what I wanted and the game was effectively what I wanted, my only problems were that it was kinda bare bones with the first being pure sandbox with no quests that I remember of and the few quests in the second I remember being extremely tedious and dull. More importantly they both had an insane amount of bugs, like one I remember off the top of my head was that the amount of cargo could and would change randomly while sailing to another port, like I'd be holding a fuckton of Mahogany and then suddenly not be and so on. Between those problems I never returned to them.

So then more recently I discovered Caribbean Legend on Steam, while hoping for maybe something like Caribbean tales and it looked exactly like what I wanted. Cleared my backlog while letting more patches come in and now that I play it, it's the pirate game I've always wanted and dreamed of. Plenty of quests that aren't boring, plenty of variety, the ship to ship combat feels weighty, no noticeable bugs and so on. Yes, the quest system is a bit jank I did softlock the tutorial day of the story because it expected me to take quests in a specific order and I butchered it, but other than that and missing out on one or two quests I didn't realise were timed but otherwise I've been having a blast and have ruined my sleep schedule on this shit.
>>
>>566619858
>>566624012
Really the only changes I want are Black Flag's boarding combat and I wouldn't mind getting rid of the world map entirely in favour of having to sail up close and personal all the time. Black Flag's sea shanties would be nice too. Other than that I'm a starving wolf and this is the first piece of meat I've ever really had in 20+ years.

Would you believe me If I said that Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales 2 is a mod for Caribbean Tales 1 sold as a separate game? And that Caribbean Legend is a patch for a mod for Caribbean Tales 2? That game series history is wack.
As for pirate games I do recommend checking out original Sea Dogs and City of Abandoned ships (it actually being Caribbean Tales 2 because Sea Dogs name is held by fucking Bethesda of all people). They do have their fair share of jank and forum wack, like Askold's quest which was added because a forum member whined game wasn't hardcore enough, but nothing on same level as Blackmark's did. Also heard Gentlemen of Fortune mod for it is good. Both games are on gog. They also made New Horizons mod for Sea Dogs 2/Pirates of the Carribean game but I haven't played that. Also check out Sailwind on steam, it might be up your alley.

Gonna dump some lore now. The original series name is Corsairs in Russia, but due to copyright fuckery it was sold in the west as Sea Dogs with Bethesda as a publisher. Then they fucked up with copyright again, so they shipped Corsairs 3 as Age of Pirates in the west with different publisher. It was 2008 so they got fucked hard as the game they shipped was shit, but Russian modders love digging in utter shit, so a group named Seaward decided to mod the shit out of the game, making Corsairs: Return of the Legend, Akella contacted them and they agreed to sell this total conversion mod as a separate game. Then after 8 moths they shipped another total conversion mod, named Age of Pirates 2 in the west, also sold as a separate game. And in 2012 another forum group creates Blackmark studio, huffs as much of shit as they can and they create Sea Dogs: To Each Their Own which is a total conversion built on top of total conversion built on top of total conversion. Sold as a separate game, now on steam with DLC being dumped in there till 2020. Then 2022 happens, part of the team goes away because war, and the remaining pips decide to sell the same fucking mod on steam with a new paint over it as Caribbean Legend. And then they started selling DLC for that! Also You might've noticed that when you started there were also two more? Well they promised Diego's storyline from 2012 and they after every dlc they've put up they said that they will DEFINITELY finish Diego's storyline after that you can probably guess i hate them, but i do commend their proficient goyim scamming techniques

>I'm already enjoying this version, I don't see the need to go back to an older version
Sea Dogs is a game from 2000, it has a good story with 4 plot lines to go through and City of Lost Ships also has different shit compared to To Each Their Own

You also probably saw Caribbean Legend: Age of Pirates on steam. It's a remaster of a mod for a Blackmark studio mod for City of Lost Ships. The only thing they changed is adding a couple of quests, fucked with the the UI and upscaled portraits with AI. Yep.

Well, they do seem to be putting in a lot of effort for it whatever the story behind it, I'm so used to devs that drop a game at the v1.0 or v1.1, or worse v0.7 stage and leaving the player base to pick up the pieces, that I'm willing to forgive a lot of shit and cut a lot of slack for this alone.

For comparison, my old ship's stats I've been using for ages now:

Slightly less manoeuvrability and I liked my old trait, but otherwise a huge upgrade all around.

Yeah there is some highly questionable stuff mostly relating to GUI and keys used but it's not disastrous bad. Disabling the HUD and checking the always cursor box does most of the lifting.
Still hilarious that the game has 3 keys for laying down, crouching and standing normally. That's some old point&click adventure verb tier of bloat.

Don't get attached to your doods. It's SMT, not pokemon, your monsters are fuel for the fusion blender and you can always get a new sparklefox if your newest crime against god's light isn't good enough.
That being said, don't fuse your starters too early. It can be 30+ floors before you can replace them.

This covers a lot of basic stuff, and a few things the game doesn't explain fully. But for the most part the game is pretty good at explaining systems and mechanics.

I like using that wiki and this site https://siralim-ultimate.rovermicrover.com/ when looking up spells and stuff for brainstorming team builds. The codex is faster at getting general info, searching general terms, etc, but it's less up to date than the wiki I posted earlier.

mission based looter rpg where you grab guns from your enemies and gradually progress from "punch a guy to death in an alleyway for his shorty" to "ram through concrete bunkers on a spacer tank while shooting lasers at mechs"
it's a lot more of a scavenger rat kind of game than brigador where the endgame is not about giant mech duels but instead it's you methodically clearing through an ammo depot in a garbage truck to haul out enough ordnance to personally carry out an invasion of a small outer rim colony. chemical canisters and 302mm cluster shells included

>>
>>566696182
now you have those psychos running the government as a police state corpocracy. poor got even poorer and rich got even richer.
if before when the great leader decided to pave over your house you'd at least be moved to nearby slums, now they'd just hire a spacer construction company that wouldn't really care whether it's occupied or not and level the whole neighbourhood in a few days.
there was at least some semblance of law enforcement before in order to uphold the regime, now the police is just a corporate security branch that doesn't actually do anything except serving whatever stakeholders are paying for. corvids regularly take over city blocks with infrastructure like highways and industrial sites, and nobody bats an eye unless it hurts profits of the affiliated megacorporations.
the demo opens with a literal terror strike on a populated urban zone that's met with zero resistance, because there's no army anymore.

I'm playing Rewind, but as far as I've seen it's a faithful remake, bugs and missing content notwithstanding.
It is FAR harder than the rest of the series. Challenges, arcade, and especially the story, enemies deal good chunks of damage and there are very few health pickups. Me and my brother could cruise through 2 and FP pretty easily, barring levels like Atom Smasher. I'm a grownass man now and this is kicking my ass with my own face.
I'm almost tempted to emulate TS1 to see just how it truly is.

Soul cards power everything, so it's just efficiency with level ups. Strictly speaking evolving cards to ++ is quite inefficient, which is why I was still surprised that Numa didn't trigger a second time. This is about 4 years in-game time.
You can craft most things pretty early on when you know how to get aspects, and after that it's just throwing your pal at rooms while keeping up with your reading.
Your original friend will help for free, which spares you having to use up actions looking for help and earning pence at the inn.
Not doing salons also keeps thing light, since full course salons take quite a few actions to prepare and I usually do nothing but a salon the days they happen so I have cards on hand for conversation. (Although there's enough food in the house for a couple of easy picnics).

I assumed it wouldn't be my cup of tea at all, since the idea of either being hunted while sitting in a tin can 80m under the surface or being the victim of a submarine attack in the middle of the ocean sound absolutely terrifying to me.
Also this makes me tempted to try other sims, maybe one with planes. I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying a game where 75% of the time you're just waiting for something to happen.

This little shitbox is the Type II, I think there are 2 variants of it and I'm assuming the on you're thinking of is the Type VII, which has like 4? I decided to start out with this shittier one, just so it feels nice to unlock the bigger sub eventually.
Also they've just added the Type IX in a DLC, but that made the recent reviews go to Mixed, so I'm guessing that didn't go too well. From what I understand it's a mixed of too little content for too much money, some performance issues and the new sub feeling more like a reskin with no actual gameplay difference to what's already in the game.

So I started playing Replaced, a linear side scroller with some occasional combat, and id say its pretty neat, pixel art is beautiful (albeit I realize there a lot of 2.5d stuff, look nice visually but you can tell its a pixel paintjob on a 3d environment) albeit confusing at time as the color palet make it so certain areas blend together visually which make figuring the path ahead kind of annoying.

Obviously I meant that particular brand of unapologetic mainstream gaming horniness, anon. Stuff like Timesplitters and Bloodrayne. We had hentai games back then too.

In the previous trading pic I had 900k (after selling my goods), I'm now up over 1.9m after less than two in game weeks.
Trading's so good when you understand it and have a good Pursur, I love it. Honestly I could half consider buying a second ship with a huge cargo hold for the explicit purpose of carrying more goods, the only limiting factor here is that I can't carry everything I'd like to carry in one trip, I could carry 5x as much in some cases and make a much bigger profit.

What is the "pirate" skill tree for?
>>
>>566753270
At the start of the game I picked what I wanted to specialize in.
P gets me better use of medium and heavy weapons, cannons, HP per level and carry capacity
I is directly linked to my accuracy and stealth
R is all dex stuff, weapons, pistols, boarding, energy gained per level
A is my charisma, trade, how much of a discount I get on my officer's payroll, and how fast they level up
T is commerce (trading?), gunnery (cannons?), the navigation skill, and more energy gained per rank
E is repairs and defence in general, also contributes to HP and max equip load
S firearms, opportunism, stealth, critical hits.
There's way(s) to gain more I'm 99% sure, but I'm too early game to really get or make use of them.

If I was repicking my stats though I'd want a lot less I and S, and a bunch more A. and maybe P and R too.

Ostranauts does a good job of capturing the feel of space travel: boring and monotonous yet at the same time extremely stressful. You can only fast forward in 6h chunks but interplanetary travel times even with a direct transfer can be over a week. Mostly depending on how high g-force your character can handle.
But once floating between destinations, there's nothing to do except sleep, drink, eat, shit, read, exercise.

All the while you're stressing out about actually making it.
What if you get unlucky with micrometeorite impacts and lose so much atmosphere you can't keep the ship pressurized? What if you run out of hull patches or repair components? What if your nav console crashes midcourse and you have to replan the maneuver? Maybe there's a danger on the course that you didn't notice despite fastforwarding through the entire thing? What if something went wrong 2 AU ago and you won't know before you're too close? What if you don't have enough food or water? Can you afford to use water for hygiene? Can your ship and body handle the high-g decel just before hitting the destination? What if the maneuver is imprecise and you hit a no-wake zone at torch drive speeds with no hope of braking with limited RCS thrust and delta-v?

Not that anon, but there's a pirate skill tree below soldier and between fencer and adventurer.

my winter car is kinda getting on my nerves because it feels like every update is only making previous things worse for the sake of making them worse only, starting to feel like stagnation and I hate that because I love this dumbass game

Even at the time, at the young age of 10, I wondered how the everliving fuck that character design actually made it into a retail videogame.
Anyway, it was Jungle Queen for me. Loaded up TS2 in co-op sometimes just for her.

Oh, yeah I guess there is.
The left branch is bonuses for medium and curved weapons, basically sabres and machetes etc. The start and the right side is energy bonuses that ends with even more medium, curved weapon bonuses.

I played the indie game called making a foxtail with a tennis ball and shoelace today. Pretty fun, but a bit buggy. I hope they patch it so that the ball stops slipping out of the lace every 5 throws.

I've been thinking about trying that game out. Seems to be more mechanically complex than I first thought. How hard is it to learn? Does it have proper tutorials or are you expected to learn from watching youtube tutorials?

Tonal whiplash: the game. I wish I could disable all the story and dialog. Maybe then it could have been good. Just let your players fill in the blanks and tell their own stories instead if you're a talentless hack writer, much preferable to Katy t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m mixed with le grimdark.

I do feel bullied but I do respect the game so much for not holding back. Never seen a puzzle game be this hostile to the player, but at no point it felt unfair.

It's worth acknowledging. If I'm in a Lisa thread, I'll do the same thing. Then again I usually have to call out the low IQ retards who think the game is BASED and MASCULINE when it's cookie cutter turbo feminism. I just want indie writers to stop being cringe.
