If you're joining fights, you're gonna lag an item behind and die every engagement.Had a game where I died 4 times in 10 min because everyone decided to brool in my lane and I was the one dying every time, along with their carry. But mine didn't make use of that space and somehow didn't get any items ahead of theirs. They start deathballing from lane to lane, their core goes afk in the jungle and comes back with more items than ours.
