Wittgenstein refers to this dichotomy as the domain of what can be shown but not said. The fact that Sumi herself doesn't understand Sora but could vaguely intuit her feelings reinforces this idea. Though the most impactful example of language lacking the ability to communicate is when Sora and her Onii-chan convey their romantic love to each other through a hug.9/10

Yet again this is être-pour-autrui, an unfortunate case of her being too focused on trying to change her own perception when she is just the object of other subjects.There are also notably explicit elements of Heidegger in this route, namely at the end with the PTA ladies who try to make Sumi go to school. They are very clearly a representation of "the They," attempting to force Sumi into complicitness and social uniformity. I'm sure I have barely scratched the surface of this fathomless work, and look forward to rereading it again in the future. There are so many rich ideas involved in each route, but also overall, such as the timeless struggle of being both family and lovers. Confucianism states that you are always connected to others and fulfill simultaneous roles, with none of them being fake masks you perform, but rather dimensions of your true self. Each imouto comes to this understanding, that one can be both an imouto and girlfriend, and that there is nothing wrong with being so. It is early Confucians who say that, if non-traditional families can contribute to social harmony, then it should be our rules of social interaction that accommodate for this fact, rather than the other way around.

The one thing I like about muramasa is how shit actually happens in the common route and it's divided into story arcs by chapter. It has that feel of reading the early chapters of battle shonen manga. More VNs should be like this instead of overwhelming you with SoL nonsense in the common route.

In some VNs it thematically makes sense to have the common route be SoL but when almost all VNs follow the same convention as if there's no other way to do things that's where things get annoying.
