Going into PoE 2 the prospect of a "build a skill" system was very interesting, but I'm increasingly confused why support gems are even in the game.Right now in my Ranger playthrough I'm casting Barrage before every Lightning Rod cast. I never cast one without the other. Effectively they are one skill with two key presses.... isn't this the sort of thing that the Support Gem system ought to accomplish? Modify lightning rod in a meaningful, interesting way. Support gems instead largely offer straight damage buffs with no apparent change in function, or marginal QoL improvements. Make your main attack deal more damage and that's it (in which case there's a mathematically correct answer for which to use). Or, slightly more interesting I guess: put Increased Duration and Faster Casting in your Orb of Storms so it's less annoying to use.My point isn't that needing to click two keys is so terrible (though it would be nice not to). I'm just not sure why this system is in the game when all the meaningful skill modification in PoE 2 happens through synergies and conditionals of the skills themselves, and this much-hyped "build a skill" system doesn't do anything like what you hope it would.
