Some early lower priority camp scenes can also be missed if higher priority ones are queued. To advance companion quests or romances, make sure to long rest often.>Q: Can I recruit Minthara without going down the evil path?>A: If you knock her out in Act 1, yes. You do miss out on the sex scene, but otherwise the romance remains the same.>Q: Underdark or Mountain Pass?>A: Either, or both. It's recommended to clear both on higher difficulties for the experience and loot. Both connect to the same Act 2 map.>Q: Is The Dark Urge essentially "Tav+"?>A: Yes. You get additional content, BUT there are points where, if you've chosen to resist the Urge and/or don't complete quests the "right" way, you'll have to pass additional checks to avoid losing companions.>Q: Are there any consequences to consuming tadpoles?>A: No, for the most part. However if you've consumed any tadpoles, there will later be a DC 21 Wisdom check to reject the Astral-Touched Tadpole, which affects your appearance if consumed.>Q: Should I enable Karmic Dice?>A: Karmic Dice will avoid streaks of low rolls, both for you and the enemy. It is recommended to disable it if you're specializing.>Polls:>Romance: https://strawpoll.com/NMnQ5kJXYn6>Race: https://strawpoll.com/kjn18WPzeyQ>Class: https://strawpoll.com/eNg69DKKjnA>Companions: https://strawpoll.com/bVg8o8l3VnYOP pasta: https://rentry.org/bggpastaPrevious thread: >>566540076

Is "Jaheira" supposed to invoke "Bagheera"? I've been wondering about this since I first saw her shapeshift into a panther. Did she also do that in the original games?

>>566793818(I just realized that the post you replied to should have read "prequels" instead of "sequels.") I don't know if Larian is to blame for the inclusion of returning characters. WotC had previously licensed BG2 characters to appear in comics, adventure modules, and whatnot. ("Heroes of Baldur's Gate" depicted a redheaded Jaheira, among other puzzling choices.) That commercial intent predates BG3 by years. Of course, Larian is still responsible for the final portrayal of these characters, good or bad. But if they were already mandated to return by WotC, then Larian's hands were effectively tied. This doesn't excuse character assassination, but gives context. I have mixed feelings about the return of these characters because I still like the Jaheira of BG3. She feels like a natural continuation of who she was in BG2.

I doubt that posters who are interested in BG3 would be willing to accept coexistence in a catch-all Larian general where they would be relegated to second-class citizens - let alone after a months-long campaign from your kind to shit on BG3 and anyone who might like the waifus. /tesg/, /fog/, and /stag/ are separate generals for a reason, despite the games sharing a common developer. Just because Larian is sure to leverage their reputation as the developer of BG3 to market their next game doesn't mean we have to blindly follow. And by the way, /lgg/ is already taken.

Question of the day: Would you consider bg3 an indie game and if yes, do you think it's part of the game's success?
Shadowheart is a masterclass in character writing because her layers of snark and mystery make every moment of trust feel earned. It's rare to find a companion who feels this human and real.
>>566823038>evil manthyfag be like
>>566823038
>>566822421>do you think it's part of the game's success? No. Normies don't know shit about that kind of stuff, nor care about it. The same way they didn't know shit about D&D but still bought the game. Same thing with Clair Obscur. About that, I appreciate that both games are successful because it shows that turn-based games are absolutely not dead, and not everything has been real time A-RPG
>>566824339I absolutely despise the RPG shift to real-time action games. I really like traditional turn based gameplay, which is why I don't ever see myself playing Baldur's Gate 1 or 2 unless they get a remake turning them into turn based games.

>>566826601Depends how you look at it. If all your character desires is unlimited power and essentially immortality then yeah. You do lose your original "self" but then again which magical transformation doesn't do that?
>>566829262>and essentially immortality then yeah.urhmm illithids got a lifespan of around 120 years aksually, emperor is way older than that because he's a terribly written character
>>566829262the real question is not the worms but if getting the shadow cursed is based.
>>566829751They're all magically gifted, no? I reckon that you could easily explain they expand their lifespan by alchemy and magic or whatever.

>>566835384Shar doesn't get along with anyone, not even her own followers
>>566826601If you can retain your mind like a special snowflake illithid Tav? Yes. Otherwise, no
>>566831408No, they're psionically gifted. Alhoons are a path illithids can take, but illithid society frowns on magic. They think refining their psionics is the right way to go. Illithids seeking to become liches or undead are outcasts and hunted down by their own kind. Probably because it makes their brains useless for an elder brain to devour
>>566835384Shar is the edgiest of edgy bitches and the ultimate nihilist. She doesn't get along with anyone. She is the worst because she actively wants everything to disappear
>>566835818Some of the shadow cursed seem to like it
Why would you want to become an undead when you know the afterlife exists in this setting
>>566836771Some people just don't want to die for different reasons, like hunger for knowledge and power. That's why liches are a thing
>>566836771The way shadow curse is described here >>566831318 doesn't really make it seem different from promised sharran afterlife. Although shadow curse is not the typical method used to create undead by necromancers. Necromancers or liches generally don't worship Shar at all.

Cat's grace for all but the worst odds is equivalent to something like +3 to +5 to your skill check.Cast guide on him either with silver pendant or casterMake sure he has disguise self on and all other party members are as far away as possible so you can just run away and then go back for a second attemptAt around level 5 with that equipment and 18 base dex it should be>+4 base dex>+1 from robe dex bonus>+3 proficiency>+1 happy>+1d 4 guidence>+2 smuggler's ring>+1 glovesFor13-16 or if you got the ring early 14-20. You can have him eat a couple of tadpoles for the +4 bonus from favorable beginnings to get that up to 17-20 on the first attempt. With favorable beginnings you need to prioritize the hardest check and then the easier attempts>>18 to mafch the targThe game doesn't communicate this well. In the pickpocket window it's telling you the roll you need to suceed. Not the DC. With guide + favorable beginnings you should only require a 12 to succeed on the check. 45% chance to succeed which is a 69.75% chance with advantage supposing that you got only a +1 from the guide roll. Most of the time it's higher for guide. And then if you got the shapeshifter ring earlier you should almost be guaranteed to succeed.

What if Mizora was a bard?
>>566846761mizora would have been a good companion unlike wyll smith
>>566845793He's right. Larian started the game with a false sense of urgency with the tadpoles being something that should be cured like it being your goal to get the anti-sorcery necklace removed in their previous game. But they doubled down and turned it into a game long plot element rather than something that should be removed in Act 1 and as this game's version of sorcery powers. It's a sense of urgency which following should have been rewarded in some way rather than turned into something irrelevant that you ignore as part of gameplay and only comes up in a few cutscenes. Yeah sure perhaps the storyline falls apart in the way since one source of motivation is gone. But then again they could have gone a different direction or simply just offered a potential reward for pursuing the cult after the tadpole is removed if they wanted to continue with that plotline. If we refer to alignment good characters would be motivated by defeating an evil, neutral and evil characters perhaps revenge since the cult could be presented as behind this and a threat that if you don't deal with will ruin everything for you. Evil characters can be promised with the prospects of power perhaps in taking over the cult later. All sorts of other motivations can be thought of without having to have the tadpoles there past Act 1.
>>566846043Tadpoles have consequences like making you ugly. And if you try the control ending you can get a surprise
>>566847029The looks are only one option tadpole in act 3. And who cares about the surprise? The game is already over. It doesn't affect the game in any way.

>>566847623>optimizeMost of those powers are worthless of many builds. There are really only a few of them that are worth grabbing for most builds. It's cool to have the free fly. But who cares? You get it with potions. The free cast only matters for dedicated casters though they can just use the spell battery items anyways. The rest are not even necessary to beat the game. They're practically just roleplaying flavor abilities that are arguably weaker than what you get from the classes themselves for specific party builds.

After Mother Gith freed us from our illithid bonds, Mother Gith traversed the planes, discovering civilisations thriving among the stars. She conquered, she colonised, she controlled. And all the while, Zerthimon questioned. He and his disciples struck with words. He claimed that because the gith had been born anew, we did not know ourselves. That in building an empire, we proved ourselves no better than our former slavers. Gith retaliated with silver. So began the War for the One Sky.Upon his inevitable defeat in the Blasted Plains, Zerthimon's faithful retreated to limbo. And there they remain, languishing in the lethargy they craved, free of inner fire, free of purpose. They call themselves the githzerai - those who spurn Mother Gith. We call them hshar'laki - the unforgiveable.
