But In Deltarune, he becomes a normal spooky science man. Yes, he exists outside the Light and Dark Worlds, but that's not "shattering across time and space," since he's clearly able to communicate, connect us, create the Device, so on. It's closer to "displacement from one world to another" rather than complete disarray of your concept. And I think that's less cool.The main crux of why I don't like this side of the story is the Device. It's extremely important but doesn't have proper rules set, so things like the Weird Route which mess with the Device are more convenient cracks in the foundation rather than targeted attacks at our vessel's strings to do (????). There's a thousand questions I could ask about how the Soul works relative to both the player and Kris but we have so few concrete answers, so we end up just having to say "that just happens, I guess." And, if you ask me, makes this whole side of the story based on flimsy rules, most of which can be made up on the spot (see: Chapter 4's dialogue-box teleportation).Another bit is the Weird Route. It's cool in terms of pure content but I don't see any reason why to do it other than just to do it. But it clearly is more measured than the Genocide route (what if I killed everyone in a game where you're meant to be nice?), so it's more than raw curiosity driving the Soul's/Kris's choices (things like Proceed and Equip being interpreted as they are). This is probably an unfortunate side effect of the game being released in Chapters over what's soon to be a decade.Trite was the wrong word to use, in retrospect. Deltarune's raw idea of how it's implemented is better than some, like OneShot or OFF where it's handwaved entirely rather than having an attempt at an explanation. But that attempt invites scrutiny, and here we are.

I agree the story is a bit slow at times in Mother 3, especially at the beginning but i'd rather the story be a bit slow than be completely bare bones like in Mother 1.
