In bg3 it's illithids. In star wars it's Valkorion, the Immortal Emperor who scours entire planets of life in order to fuel his immortality. The later expansions for swtor are preventing his ploy of tricking people into accelerating this ritual for him, and then after you stop it once, witnessing it happen on another planet. His long term plan was to devour all life in the galaxy to ensure his own immortality and then meander to another galaxy, purely for curiosity lol.

People have mixed opinions on the expansions, but generally speaking people love Valkorion, his voice actor, and the general gist of stopping him. There's just some rough patches along the way, like all the nature of the force meditating if you're a tech class, and some of the chapters are pretty much about certain characters and if you don't like that character you spacebar through every cutscene. But on average it's good.
