Cid is probably the only character who pulls that off. Cutscene moments. Maybe someone grabs another person's hand during a jump. Uncharted tier. Not really impressive. Uncharted gets away with it because it has amazing acting and storytelling to make up for being a simple third person shooter with nice animations. Without the connection you make to the party through RPG mechanics, these characters aren't nearly as compelling. You don't feel responsible for their fates like in every other FF game. And just because the combat is a DMC clone doesn't excuse stripping that out and it never will. It's such a missed opportunity not to give all of them their own movesets and tell a story about a group of people, not just one guy. The fucking dog is commandable but Jill isn't. That's just retarded design choice and a complete slap in the face to anyone who's already played better games.

The game is borderline unplayable sadly and it needs a remaster, the music is great but not the best, and the stories are good.

They also got more bloated because if they spent money on it, and everything now costs more money because higher production value and more of it, then they also want to make sure that the player sees it so that even *they* get their money's worth. A change from game to "cinema". And he also touches on the indie RPG scene that one must now go to in order to find games that feel like the pre-PSX RPGs. >"the spectacle got bigger, the mystery got smaller"
