It's like from the beginning people were saying "this is a new e-sport" and off to the races. From the get-go they begged for donations for more and more prizepool cash, and now they're over the hill because they can slap Wal-Mart, Newegg, and Intel logos on shit in-game. We've had paid mods before paid skins, coaching programs with hourly rates, subscription services for "game analysis" and stat tracking, and several different attempts to be THE tourney by shoving a bunch of prize money. Ads plastered and running, Twitch mentions across the screen, hell we've even had Deathy make a video about how viable Deadlock mooching is. Before there even was a community there was a market. It feels like rather than or before any enthusiasm for the game could form it was being squeezed for sweet, sweet cash. Now, rather than any community it's simply an audience of paypiggies.
