>>569498527Is there a pastebin for it or recent update news?
>>569501443No pastebin at all. The game is there years old but still going strong so far it looks like. The Paradox publishing decision seems to ensure the studio keeps getting money to release and support the game without missing a beat so far. I do think that times may be a more uncertain for them ahead. They've hit a LOT of fantasy trope options at this point, so, it'll be a bit harder to sell future DLC as the idea pool of what's easy and popular to make in game format becomes smaller. I think it'll depend on the success of this story pack about to come out, show if they can get a handle on making plot a selling point for future DLC as much as they can anymore missing fantasy tropes they can try to sell.Someone would have to make a paste, even I'd do it for free if I had enough time to myself. Just dunno when that'll beThere's been a steady stream of news as of late. Secrets of the Archmages is their final content pack of this 'season'. No new cultures, no new ruler types, but six fucking tomes for research options, three new story maps, and an alternate map layer to replace the tentacle rape dimension that we can explore and steal shit for. Oh, and owls. Owlpeople are a thing now I guess. FLC update includes an empire tree expansion to make it less fucking one note by DOUBLING and expanding our options for picking stuff, and Reavers getting a touchup; now having a Federate sub faction, for those who still want to shoot guns, but want to vassalize, whether through peace or force. It releases one day separate from that Stellaris Nomads DLC. Now while I do still like Stellaris, I am not too excited for Nomads, and will probably just do two origins I'm curious of before dropping it for AoW4 for the next month or two

Hello, what's this?A New mega structure for Stellaris? And it's a giant cannon? Sounds neat! How does it wor...>140 day long countdown to fire>It uses up your entire energy stockpile each time it fires>Damage scales based on thisSo it's gonna be slow to fire and I can only use it like once every few years during end game? Sounds very meh, what else does it do?>Should your shot use more than 50000 energy, you will also increase the temperature of all planets in the systemWell that sounds more like it! I can blow up enemy planets with thi...>this will not move a planet out of being habitable or into being habitableWell shit. So it's yet another "balanced for multiplayer" mega structure that doesn't change gameplay in any significant way.>In addition, the AI has a few more restrictions, in that it will only target enemies if it has more than 10000 energy in storage, has a positive energy balance and will only target systems with fleets that have more that piddling fleetpower, mainly so they won’t waste their entire energy budget on shooting single ship reinforcements.Oh, so it's going to be an annoyance mechanic then.Fuck my life.
>>569512506Shit like planet crackers or wiping planets I assume they intend to keep behind the Colossus ascension perk to keep it relevantThat said, I would argue if I have this giant space gun AND the colossus project, I should be able to crack planets with this thing too. It is straight up BIGGER than a colossus, it doesn't fucking move goddamn it.As is it's just an expensive intergalactic siege cannon rather than a planet blower upper gunFail
>>569514372Yeah and since it has a long firing time AND you cannot fire it at systems that have your own colonies in them, it can't be used creatively as an anti-menace weapon either.
So playing nomads as a megacorp is basically gonna be the best way to play nomads right? Go fanatic xenophile for extra trade and diplomacy and then find somebody to latch onto and not only get their space deposits but also build shit on their planets?
>>569519159it'll probably be good but not necessarily the bestI foresee being aggressive early on and creating a vassal swarm will be effective

>>569778190I mean there's not much to say. Looks like 4 man squads, set during the clone wars, and you can play as humies/clones/jedi/ayys/R2-D2 astromechs. >>569863627Go ask on the forums if it's normal?
>>569863904Already did. A dev clarified the limitations on singularity placement to me since I was unsure of them due to almost exclusively using compression singularities on my own systems. Any preferred first time settings for Stellaris?

>>569991738turn off voidworms and the l-gates. actually turn off storms too
>>569999785Good advice.>>569992006Nomads seems promising.Bio genesis added bio ships and the ability to capture spaceborne fauna and use grow them into combat ships or harvestable resources.Shadows of the shroud added new shroud mechanics.Apocalypse for the obligatory death star.Megacorp for different empire type (same reason why you should get nomads).Federations for more diplomacy gameplay.Nemesis, so you can become the end game crisis and get more out of some of the earlier mentioned DLCs.Overlord for more mechanics as an empire that vasallises other empires to do its bidding. The Machine age for playable robots.I'd consider those to be required stuff. The Rest are mostly fluff or cosmic storms.
>>570000352Sweet, storms I'll probably hold off on as it very much feels like a "Pay money, make game worse" sorta thing.
>>570000352>Bio genesis added bio ships and the ability to capture spaceborne fauna and use grow them into combat ships or harvestable resources.I thought grand archive was what allowed you to use space fauna?
>>570000608You're right.My mistake.
>>570000578Storms I don’t think are as bad as some people think they are, but they definitely aren’t appealing to people who want a consistent experience. They’re basically just random effects that can help or hinder you and you have no real control over them until you get certain tech. One of these days I want to do a run focusing on cosmic storms and the superstitious beliefs civic to get blasted with as many random effects as possible and see what happens
>>570005781I'll keep that in mind then. It very much seems like the only true 'skip' when people talk about it so I was unsure as to if it was 'that bad' or if its RNG deciding to Kneecap you sometimes.
>>569991738The settings don't matter much. Turn off advanced empires but besides that you can leave most actual galaxy generation settings on their defaults. Bump up difficulty if you are experienced gamer™ and galaxy size if you have a beefy PC though, feel free to pick which ever galaxy shape you like the most. Either use the default human empire or make a "default human" starter empire with prosperous unification and without of the weird origins or perks.
>>569779856EL1 or EL2? my enjoyment of endless legend 1 varies heavily on the faction i'm playing. broken lords is genuinely the most boring shit faction i've played in any 4x game and somehow that's the one they decided to bring back for EL2. however Forgotten, Mykara and Roving Clans are all fun to me thanks to their gimmicky playstyle. i love the "thief" faction archetype a lot, i wish i could play it in more gamesi only played a little bit of EL2 before refunding, since the game seems really bare and didn't even have multiplayer yet. i don't know if it has gotten better though. in many ways it was an improvement over EL1 but it had just enough of humankind's DNA in it that it might just be shit forever.

>>570016551Use subscription in one months bursts every 3 or 6 months when you get the itch.
you ever play a strategy game with some truly fucking awful macro gameplay, and you just know you will have a nightmare about managing it later
>>570016551I was cured of the paradox disease years ago after the economy rework that came with the Megacorp DLC. I realized that the AI empires sat on maxed-out stockpiles of strategic resources, yet never upgraded their production buildings to actually use them. Getting the DLC out in time for chri$tma$ was more important than making sure the basegame AI isn't economically braindead, pretty disillusioning moment.Tried some time later, when I heard that endgame lag has gotten better. How? Instead of fixing the problem in a clever way, they simply amputating global population growth. The max population for ANY empire is hard-capped, very ingenious solution. So all those cool megastructures like ringworlds and ecumeopolises are mostly useless vanity projects since you'll never be able to populate them.I feel like most DLCs are like this. You get a shiny new thing to be excited about (and if you don't have a particular dlc, the game never fails to remind of it). The underlying mechanics are stale and lame, only the early phase is challenging. Afterwards, you're playing "numbers go up" the game. I guess it's different in multiplayer, but this is EXACTLY the kind of game I don't want to play with other people. Also the roleplay faggotry that seems so popular with Stellaris is really off-putting, I want to play a strategy game and not a gay catboy emperor. One of the best games for listening to audiobooks though, as it requires very little attention.
>>569938117F U C K this gameThe building/defending part was sweetBut holy fuck the missions that required you to actually go out and fight were an absolute snorefest, just endless waves of spam getting smashed against each other, with progress being made every 10 minutes or so because your units are utterly unresponsiveNot to mention how bullshit it is that 1 (one) enemy guy can single-handedly shut down half your economy if he gets in unnoticed because buildings are made of fucking paper
bump
>>570021357I fucking love the artstyle and how you can trade food for materials, but damn. Once you start losing, you're fucked. I had a nightmare general making to my base and murdering me, and as you said, all the buildings are very fragile.
>>570029694Yeah if the whole perimeter of your base isn't fucking stonewalled by 3 mins, you're fucked because a random zulu warrior can just walk in and demolish half your houses before you can react, which sets you back for a whole dayIt doesn't help that a lot of maps feel super claustrophobic, which is awful because farms take up a fuckton of space and you need to get a lot of them up else everyone fucking starves within one second of the new day startingThe tipping point for me was the final kingdom mission, where you sail back to your king's city and have to siege it down: I had virtually infinite resources and production, and I still couldn't progress for shit because the 2 small entrances were jammed with people, and unit control is so sluggish and shit that I kinda gave up on trying to actively coordinate fighting. I think I had it run for 30 minutes until I realized that this game simply wasn't for me, alas
>>570031263As much as I like Diplomacy Is Not An Option, sadly, the while system does NOT work well with melee. There's a very solid reason They Are Billions relied so much on ranged units.Through funnily, I do fare better at it then Age of Darkness: all the issues you complain about, I met them in this game, and it utterly ruined it for me.

>>570240234Jammers no longer give evasion. They give movement now. Lensers also don't give repair anymore, and also give movement. Questionable changes, if you ask me, but whatever. The purpose of that particular build is cloaking and anti-cloaking. Since both apply to the whole fleet and the higher tier modules cost a lot of strategics, I like to have a dedicated cloaking/anticloaking design on a protector, preferably with jammers to ensure it doesn't just die and need to be replaced after every battle. I threw on an orichalcix missile for the debuff. Probably not too impactful with only one per fleet, but I had an abundance of the stuff and wasn't using it for much else. I would've preferred EMP beams, but I never researched them.

i wish there were more 4x type games that have a more tempered approach to war, like that not every war should involve annihilating the opposition's army in its entirety and then steamrolling their capital. i think a lot of board games unironically handle combat better since you're just harassing the enemy or just taking out some of their economy, and not completely removing them from the game.for all its other deficiencies, i think humankind actually tried to fix it by having the war support system

Is Grexolis in Age of Wonders 4 meant to be a 'haha fuck you' type map or am I really not understanding something?
>>570564336No. You have the right feeling there. Grexolis is a BITCH of a story map. It's a simple us vs them team fight but the deck is stacked against you thanks to angel orcs having an advanced start. It was the final vanilla story map, so I understand that devs wanted some challenge there. No DLC story maps felt harder than GrexolisExcept for ArcalotArcalot in AoW4 is a fucking nightmare, Grexolis is easier than Arcalot by far
>>570566113It's crazy how there's some super powerful synergies on grexolis like knowledge keepers +40 intelligence and yaka burn synergy and you still can't keep up. I actually really like it even though I can't destroy a single enemy capital.

>>570568921ok lol i tried BAR and this thing seems like the same kind of bland freeware jank as zero-ki guess i'll see if supcom has any players
>>570567335I remember for Grexolis I failed once with a previous faction, then just made a chaos/horde tome barbarian civ to combine with the Nightweaver ritual first go and put it all in on trash unit spam. This, combined with adept settlers/prolific swarmers to establish many cities fast in the hopes of scaling better the longer the game lasted, and avoiding contact with the Onmar so they didn't rush me immediately, actually worked. My economy was constantly in the fucking red half the time though. But fighting the angel orcs with unit spam was making me money and helped balance it all out.Think either Nimue or Yaka lost their capital fighting the others but weren't eliminated completely, so I still got the achievement I don't thing this idea would work as well in current version, a lot of small stuff changed since 1.0 which is when I did it
>>570568921Forged Alliance. If you wanna play multi, I think "forged alliance forever".
>>570568921Supcom has good player count with FAF so that's the OG experience. BAR is probably the slightly more popular and more accessible modern interpretation
>>570573474yea i found my way to FAF. seems like the way to go. i like that you can see how poor your teammates are via the CPU meter>>570573765idk what it is about BAR and these types of games, but it's like they try too hard to remake the experience that they forget to actually put any soul or "cool" factor into anything. its like 1 step removed from just having "damage bot" and "the tanky faction", rather than the actual pseudorealistic factions and units that supcom has

Playing a settled empire with my buddy as a nomadContracts get weirdAI nomads will snipe some contracts but then won't be assed to actually complete them, locking that system from having more contractsSometimes the option to issue contracts is gone entirely, right-clicking a system doesn't do anything for some time. Reloading fixes it, as well as letting some time past. Not sure if that's an intended limit or just junk? Feels like latter.Abusing the contracts with how cheap they are can get pretty lucrative. Having a nomad as a permanent resident of your borders feels really nice.

How's the new Stellaris expansion, can i pirate now or should i wait for the inevitable hotfix patch for all the bugs?
>>570791309SURPRISINGLY stableMade it to year 100 in multiplayer with a single desync with a bunch of nomadic empires present

What went right with Nomads?
>playing unmodded Stellaris>find a level X anomaly>wiki doesn't mention anything about anomalies going that highN-nani?!
>>570812492precursor anomalies can be that high
>>570812492Isnt anomaly level just difficulty of solving it?
>>570791309Got ~80 years in yesterday with zero desyncs nor crashes on already released inevitable hotfix beta branch with only basic UI mods.Doomsday Origin actually wanted to get the devastation cheevo but forgot that doomsday does not add devastation lmaoMapgen trolled me hard, squeezed the capital between fallen isolationist border systems, zero planets in my cluster, and a fucking inward perfection blocking the only way out and towards the free gaia AND relic in the comfy pocket in the middle. Before the update it would have been a "you are already dead" situation from the very start. After update Doomsday actually might be a good arkship kickstart, at least for machines. You get 40 years of crazy energy/minerals/alloy production, pay 10K alloys to embark (no science cost at all, it's a planetary decision), keeping all your pops and resource stockpiles AND lifting all the urban buildings + 9 districts directly from planet to arkship.
>>570799443I see I'm not the only one who immediately went to make a BSG civ, however imperfect. I still wonder if technically the President is the head of the government and not the Admiral. I haven't watched nu-BSG in so long. It also feels like a bit of a waste to have the military arkship and not be belligerent enough to use it. At least with Lost Colony they could actually have an Earth to find that is not a tomb world or primitive pre-FTL unless something unfortunate happens.
among us! (among us!)

whatever paradogg did with the launcher made it way slower, shit needs like ten seconds to even let me configure my playsets
evens I go robo nomadodds I'll go for the new galactic defender with a normal empire
>gestalts are generally able to make the most out of cramped “tall” empire situations simply because they don’t have to produce consumer goods which frees up their industry significantly>both gestalt machines and hive minds can get around the fact that nomads take longer to get a second “planet” because machines just need to build assembly plants and hive minds grow insanely fastI’m getting the feeling that gestalt nomads is going to be notably stronger than individualist nomads but maybe I’m just a retard and bad at playing individualists
>>570712393And? How was Brigador Killers?
>>570833513Felt very grindy, but might've been just me. I did a lot of different runs to farm equipement (the bad idea of the game being that you need ammo as well), and because I stocked them improperly (dumping them on the floor), I ended up progressing very slowly.Otherwise, it's pretty much Brigador except you start naked and have to build a mecha in your cave. And trust me, you're happy when you build your first car, because it let you carry a lot more loot. It's just that the demo had atrocious UI, so I felt frustrated with it, but if dev fixes it, it can be good.
>>570833823Oh I see. It's a very different game then. Maybe I'll check it when they've done some more work on it. Thanks anon.
>>570834318Oh, that's what you mean. Let me get more indepth.Brigador, you had the support of the consortium, so you only had to pay to get new stuff. Brigador Killers is more of an underdog story: the first maps you play are just you passing after a Corvid massacre to loot whatever you can, weapons, bandages, ammunitions. It plays like... a real time Jagged Alliance, where you try to sneak behind people and blast their heads off before they can shoot you back while stuffing your pockets with all the loot you can carry. You can also crouch to aim better, and there's a stealth system. Very basic one though. Then, as you get bigger guns, you take on harder missions, like visiting a crossroads where the Corvids are still present. It's a hotter area, but you get more weapons if you can kill their owners, and there are also vehicles that you can steal, either to carry loot, or to disassemble into material later. Some cars can be modified (I remember stealing a police car and putting a turret on top that I equipped with an uzi), and of course, eventually, your goal is to build a mecha, because cars are nice and can ram enemies, but mechas are cooler.
Lemme post some pics. Here is me, peeking on some corvids. I equipped binoculars and I'm crouching, that let me peek a lot, lot further than normally.
Once back at the garage, you can craft different kind of backpack to transport more stuff.
You can craft some of the pieces, but the chassis and engines are exclusive, so you can't craft a forklift out of the blue. And of course, if you die, you lose everything you brought. And you can only leave with one vehicle, you can't farm maps by moving several vehicles in the exit area.
>>570835503Nice. I know the gist of the story but never really read into it that much. Is the soundtrack still good?
>>570836458I don't know, the game was very, very early. Most of the assets are still placeholders, and I confess I never played with the music in Brigador. Also I was wrong, it wasn't a police car that I slapped a gun on, but a party van. Like in that Team Fortress 2 mario_kart map.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuefzdAPtQY
>>570836361It looks very ambitious and a bit all over the place, do the devs know what kind of game they want it to be?
Is playing nomadic supposed to be this micromanagement heavy?
>>570836759I think so. The impression I get is that it's still Brigador, but now you're the guy on the other side who isn't backed by a massive corporation. So you build your wartools froms scratches, any big operation requires a lot of preparation and spare parts to repair afterward, and the tutorial is essentially a bunch of brigador pilots assassinations. It's just the UI so far that is a total bitch to figure out, because to unload a car's trunk, it's a bunch of very annoying drag&drop.
>>570837051Okay seems interesting. Glory to great leader!
>>570837682It does seem so, but fuck me. I really hope dev will add an option to empty all your pockets the moment you come home. I was very pissed when I spent 8 hours grinding for materials and weapons, only to realize that nothing was saved because I should've instead dumped it in the chest.
>>570837051Are you still operating in Solo Nobre?
>>570828590just use irony mod manager
>>570833823>It's just that the demo had atrocious UI, so I felt frustrated with it, but if dev fixes it, it can be good.1) Shift+click instantly transfers item between left and right inventory screens in a smart way (prioritizong smallest empty weapon slot or fitting ammo slot etc)2) In the latest build any vehicle can loot from containers, you don't need to exit the tank or limit yourself to loader van.3) They did something about drag and drop zones being more freeform, you don't need to put weapons exactly in weapons tab within your backpack etc.Other parts that felt frustrating were "twinstick" move on tracked vehicles and snap aiming, until I changed/disabled those in options.Twinstick works on hovers that can strafe instantly, not on tanks that need to rotate to direction first.Snap aim sometimes makes you miss when your gun is not centered, like shooting sideways from a van turret.
>>570838390I think so? Again, been a while since (learning that the dev forgot to fix that feature that stuff left on the ground would despawn made it quit it right away), but the entire game is about, on short term, to get revenge on the brigadors who survived the first game, and at long term, retake Solo Nobre.
>>570836879>micromanagement heavy???use autoexplore

I think from now on if you’re trying to do a peaceful run of stellaris you might as well do nomads every time. Oh you spawned next to a dipshit asshole empire? Just move away dummy who cares, you can always find at least one other empire to nestle into. As opposed to playing a peaceful settled empire that ends up getting boxed in with psychos at your door

>"Almost a year after launch we're adding art into our game!"Do you think they can save it? I get that they needed money after the Sega split but it was absolutely ass when it released.
>>570909723i would hope so, but i am doubtful. desu i kinda gave up on amplitude after humankind, because there's basically 0 chance of the game actually being truly functional if those same designers are still working there.it takes good number crunch intuitions to really design 4x games so they don't fall apart. simple improvements like "+6 gold per turn" or "+3 gold per turn for each city (can only build once)" are good since they can't really get out of hand. humankind did not do that at all, and instead it had improvements and districts that just compounded your numbers over and over, which inevitably meant you would snowball harder and harder and eventually send your FIDSI to the stratosphere. on top of that, it had that "first come first served" approach to the cultures too, which made it even worse lol. and desu the reason why i have no faith in it getting better is because generally, the people who design the game either get it or they don't. there are no hard rules to game design, so there's no way to even prove to someone that their design is bad, even if you try to explain it to them. it's especially hard to get a designer to actively remove something. an amateur game designer is always going to want to add more and more stuff, because they don't get that whenever you add something, you detract from something else. but i digress. i am only a retarded and lazy ex game dev
>>570911368>because they don't get that whenever you add something, you detract from something elseto give an example, like the best part about endless legend 1 is that the fidsi isn't very intensive and generally optimizing for it doesn't truly matter as much as your unique faction stuff, running around with your kitted out marine death squad, doing quests and generally being interacting with the game. on the other hand the only thing you really do in humankind is pump out fidsi, because if you don't then you fall off the train and can never catch up again
>>570911368>>570911638>the people who design the game either get it or they don'tI guess they lost a lot of people then? EL1 was a very endearing game despite it's flaws and ES2 is just really good overall outside of the DLC and stuff I personally dislike like behemoths. I don't mind snowballing in 4xs generally as long as factions that are designed to snowball have genuine weaknesses to compensate.
>new patch>start new game>everyone wants to be friends, +300 opinion, improving relationsW-what the fuck?
>>570912249They overhauled diplomacy and maybe overcorrected. You get a permanent relationship buff if you send a certain amount of compliments for example.
>>570911985i dunno what was happening at amplitude internally but i'm guessing it was something along the lines of>gameplay designers from EL1/ES2 get either promoted to more senior positions or they just left the company altogether>they hire new junior designers, and those people hecking loved FIDSI optimization gameplay (or it could have just been 1 guy) and they weren't very good at designing it>the senior designers never correct the course, possibly because they don't really understand number crunch eithervery likely EL1 and ES2 were designed the way they were because that's what the gameplay designers liked, and not because they consciously avoided FIDSI gameplay. and also even if the senior devs had some gist of the design flaws with cultures etc. they may have not brought them up because people in westerm game dev are usually not the criticizing type. for all we know, humankind could have legit been sank by literally 1 junior designer who was assigned the task of adding and balancing all the effects of the cultures/improvements/districts. balancing in general is considered "bitch work" in the industry after all
>>570717060>>570766501Okay same poster here: I'm doing a machine empire with tactical algos and diplo protocols. it just hit 2400 and i have almost every single other empire as my satropy. (i raped the great khan). I did Nanotech early and now I have over 1.5M nano resource and 1.3M fleet power (I can field way more too). I also did the new galactic defenders ascension and so my crisis damage bonus is insane. I'm going to take a break but when i come back I'm going to do the early crisis. Check picrel for more details on the stats. This shit is very strong.
