They seem to have fixed that in the remake of the second game though. The one made by Gemdrops instead of tri-Ace. The enemy ai is much less annoying and "unfair", and the gameplay is a lot more fun for me. Gemdrops is run by a former tri-Ace dev though. Star Ocean 4 was pretty mid, but it did the best job of making you feel like an actual space explorer. Star Ocean 5 felt like it had zero budget and whatever budget they did have was mismanaged. It's a shame Fiore is trapped in that game. Star Ocean 6 also felt really low budget, but they did a throwback to Star Ocean 2 with the dual protagonists, and I actually enjoyed it fairly well. I still think 2 and 3 are the best in the series overall. FFX remains my favorite JRPG though, but it was also my first, so there's some nostalgia bias there.
