Unpopuar but the real problem with dnd, pathfinder, warhammer, comics, and the like is that there is no real cohesion in fiction. You get a bunch of authors all writing their own thing, many who are probably just grifters using the setting for their own stores, and this is why you get all these weird retcons. The Custodes thing was a pretty much impossible situation. I believe that it probably would not have happened if it was noticed but it did, and by the it was too late. Imagine the shit storm if GW came out and say it was a mistake.The same shit is with BG3 characters who were from the old games. New writers are writing established characters. It never works out.
