>>the necrons had devices that could literally kill demons and instantly close warp rifts
correct
>>but they don’t exist anymore or something because reasons.
They spent MILLIONS of years in stasis, quite much 80-90% of their population is also dead DEAD as majority of the Tomb World failed in these millions of year and all the necrons sleeping inside these dead tomb world cannot be reactivated anymore
>also no other race managed to reverse engineer these devices or create technology with the same power because
Do you have a fucking idea of what Necrontyr can do? Trazyn in the RT DLC unironically used 0,0001% of his power.
Imperium is literally millions of years behind these motherfuckers, Aldari could have made it if they didn't spawned their own oblivion and now they are going extinct
> the ancient peoples of a time now forgotten were very powerful and mysterious
They forgot nothing, it's a matter of numbers, the necrons are simply too few to seriously take over the galaxy at this point and their dinasties fights each other all the time so their already few numbers are getting smaller and smaller each time two necron lords decide they want to kill each other.
Super Necrons like Trazyn or Orikan also are more busy doing their own personal shit to care about anything else, one wants to catalogue the universe, the other has a time machine and use it just for the sake to piss off Trazyn changing historical events some thousands or millions years in the past

Then there is the Silent King, who is now back from his self exile and wants to soul transfer the entire Necron race into the bodies of all humans in the galaxy at once, and he could potentially do that with a power source strong enough but Imotekh the Stormlord doesn't want to go being a sack of mortal flesh again so sooner or later a major war between Necrons is going to happen
>>
>>572618348

It’s the anti-warp devices being literally the most valuable technology in all of existence and the fact that they aren’t literally everywhere and coveted and fought over by everyone that makes no sense. Also all of this necron lore is insanely ridiculous and exactly what I’m saying

It really isn't.
>hat they aren’t literally everywhere and coveted and fought over by everyone that makes no sense.
Because they can't just be made easily.
And Trazyn isn't that ridiculous, the power level difference is just that high. The Imperium is genuinely nothing compared to those present during the War in Heaven. Him bullying you, some Rogue Trader, is par for the course.

He wants to Thanos snap humanity and soul transplant Necron in our bodies because immortality sucks and philosophy and they cannot breed more necrontyr right now so he understand they are simply going to die and vanish

This doesn't stop them
>It’s the anti-warp devices being literally the most valuable technology in all of existence and the fact that they aren’t literally everywhere and coveted and fought over by everyone that makes no sense.
They aren't and they are dangerous to psychic species like Humans and Eldar. Cutting off Warp completely would most likely kill all psychic races. Natural state of the galaxy is with warp flooding in, Necrons tried to seal it off during War in Heaven to fuck over Eldar and Old Ones, hence the Pylons.
Unstable Warp and Chaos weren't an issue for a longer time until Eldar made Slaanesh and Humans provided Chaos Gods with generals and armies
>a gorillion year old sigma robot who went on self-imposed exile for another gorillion years in search of forbidden knowledge
No, Necrons lost, had to surrender and wait until their enemies are weakened so they can try again

Just see what happens when an untrained unsanctioned Blanks walks by normal humans, normal humans can react from feeling discomfort to getting afflicted by an intense murderous frenzy desire to kill the Blank.
A Psyker will start bleeding from all his holes until he drops dead with the liquified brain dripping out ears and nose

When should I proceed with the Imoen mission in bg2? I have the gold, but I got it just by doing Nalia's quest alone, I haven't even been in all the town districts yet, let alone explored them.
Obviously rp wise I should rush to save her but I don't want to leave the city before exploring it, it feels like the game blueballing me

There’s no perfect answer. If you plan to use Imoen as your main mage long term it’s good to do it sooner rather than later to avoid out leveling her accidentally. If you have other mages you’re using then the timing is less critical. I will say that I think splitting the quests between Chapter 2 and Chapter 6 feels best to me. If you want to make things a little easier for yourself a good approach in my opinion is to spend your first wad of cash on the Shield of Balduran, to punk Beholders, and then buy passage. Fighting beholders “properly” is doable with enough spells and/or the right party members. But it’s always a pain in the ass.

The Imoen-rescue series of missions can be too difficult if you rush into it because you'll be under-geared and under-levelled. I like to buy a few things from the adventurer mart, which inevitably drains my finances and forces me to explore a fair bit more and do more quests before Spellhold

I'm starting to understand why some people have a gripe with the Aerie romance
Every interaction so far is just her dumping backstory on me, she's cute but Jaheira and Viconia actually feel dynamic, like our relationship is progressing, there are times with backstory but also times with genuine exchanges.

Aerie is definetly cute, but the writers didn't really pace her dialogue properly.

Only true right at the beginning were she still sees you as her ward. Once she starts catching feelings it’s a lot more complex. Most of it is about introspection and ideals.
>>
>>572627636
Aeries romance is cut content. So is Viconias, actually, but people don't notice that one as much. The only one who got her full intended arc finished was Jaheira, the rest were cut down due to time constraints. They also flat out cut Nalia and Valygars planned romances from the game altogether.
>>
>>572629024
I'm installing mods to be able to see most of the game's vanilla content in a single run
Adding too much new content like new companions would warp my perception of the game itself

Athlanka as a city is MUCH better designed than Baldur's Gate.
I really would like to know what bg1 would look like if developed from the start with all the lessons the devs seem to have learned, from companions to map and quest design, but keeping the same "low level hobo adventure" charm it had.

I see the line about the fat fold etc shitposted endlessly but this is actually a really good talk, easily the most intense so far.
>opens up more about her survival, returning to the farmstead story
>starts by making excuses for herself, how she was desperate etc
>then does a 180 and tries to hurt the player, asking if he is amused by it, intentionally trying to make it sound as disgusting as possible
>when shown pity rejects it and claims that actually she liked it, and if the player is really disgusted
>when the player confirms that yes, it was indeed terrible, she calls him a coward
>but pretends the thing the player is upset about is her beauty and he's just a gay coward, completely ignoring the story that she herself tried to use to disgust the player
>This doesn't end the romance because obviously she is perfectly aware that's a proper reaction
Really good, you can interpreted in a few different ways but its definetly layered, and there is a lot of cope there.

Researching DOS2

There seems to be a lot of online sentiment about playing as an Origin character first instead of creating your own character

What’s the deal with that

Don’t most people like Custom in these games, even something like Durge
>>
zoomie's first tsundere waifu
>wow she's not saying how she exactly feels all the time
>so deep and layered
>>
>>572652469
I just play custom
The reason for DOS2 is that there is no camp for companions, you can only bring 3 with you past act 1, this means that any quest of theirs is lost.

So if you play an origin you can play 4 companion stories instead of 3 if you were to play custom. Didn't bother me, went with custom + fane + sebylle + lhose.
>>
>>572652448
We support lesbians here.
>>
>>572652469
They have more "content" in that sense. Imagine playing DAO and there's an option for you to skip all that shit and start out on the Grey Warden camp. Origins carry their own story context.
>>
>>572652132
several bg3 drow tavs
>>
>>572652713
It's above average for a crpg
Can I not praise some good dialogue?
Could you present this done better in a crpg?
>>
>>572652756
>>572652773
But if you play as a character, aren’t you effectively erasing that characters personality with your own choices
>>
>>572652469
In DOS2 origin characters have an actual questline and reactivity, custom characters have absolutely nothing, you can also customize origin characters' appearance so that makes custom characters even more irrelevant. In BG3 the custom character Tav once again doesn't get jack shit, BUT, Durge exists and is pretty clearly meant to be the actual main character of the game.
>>
>>572652893
You don't have to pick the dialogue choices that they have. For example, you can play as Sebille, an elf assassin slave. She has her own questline that you can follow and it's still up to you how that goes though frankly, more on how you just say stuff to people. Though I'm not sure how it plays out if you are an asshole to everyone and need to break out of the song.
>>
Sorry but I will always pick customs, cry about it Swen
>>
>>572652469
It’s more like choosing a background with an actual quest for your character. It’s no different than being Gorion’s ward in bg.
>>
>>572652879
your praise is cringe

>>572650385

>>
>>572652050
You can, the free reposition is a massive part of naval officer
And a sniper operative has a bunch of free levels where you can take stuff that isn’t directly about sniping
>>572652469
You experience more story because all the companions you don’t have in your active party at the end of Act 1 die
Custom characters in DOS2 are completely blank slates disconnected from the plot, but with a nice source ability
Just go with the origin character you most like
Ifan is kino, Fane is kino, Beast is the closest to a blank slate you get from an origin

Not really CRPGS as we know them today, but many of the old SSI Goldbox games were other places. Pool of Radiance is around the Moonsea north of the Dales and Eye of the Beholder is below Waterdeep. The Dales was actually the original default location of the setting in 2nd ed. IIRC. There's also the odd other gold box game set here and there. Basically Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale cast a LONG shadow for everything that came after. Dark sun is the only Gold Box game I'd truly consider a modern CRPG and that's of course set in Dark Sun.

Of course not. Just like they didn't explain why the slayer form changed, why Minsc is even in the game, how Jaheira became level 8 when she used to be level 30, and why the tieflings didn't take the trade way but dragged themselves through the shadow-cursed lands instead.

Gnomes are the products of polygamy, incestuous breeding, and corprophilia.
It is no exaggeration or hyperbole to say that all evils of the world are endorsed by and committed by gnomes.
A gnome feels no empathy nor remorse, no common humanity that separates us from simple beasts.
The only love a gnome can feel, if one can describe is so, is the love for money.
A gnome would sooner sell his own mother for a pouch of silvers than do a single good deed in his entire gaping hole of an existence.

R8 my beginner Arcanum build (I can't make the window small enough to screenshot it properly, and can't be bothered to go into Gimp to make it smaller)

I'm going with a Half-elf male (with the face that looks like Doc Holiday from Tombstone)
Nietzsche Poster Child background.
ST:8, CN:7, DX:10, IN:10, WP:8, PE:8, CN:8
I picked Harm and Illuminate as my starting spells. (Illuminate is just a sort of roleplaying tradition I have where I try to get a basic light utility spell as quick as possible)
For items, I bought a non-hooded robe, a short sword, two health potions, and three fatigue potions.

forgot what nietzsche background does
you don't need that much strength if you put in extra
intelligence is for holding spells (the 5 slots you see at the top), good for summon builds or if you like to buff your stats with agility of fire, for example
willpower is what you need as a spellcaster
constitution is for health and rate of restoring fatigue and hp
harm is op, but you already know that
illuminate, is actually pretty good if you're a melee build. blur sight is really good imo, but then again, as a pure spellcaster, you can kill your enemies without needing that

as for me, i'm off to be the biggest whore in all of arcanum
>>

>>572689257
Hmm that's a good point
>>
>>572688873
The edgelord philosophy background lets you gain EXP quicker at the cost of critically failing more often.
I felt like it would fit the character a bit better.

I'll keep that advice in mind though. I really like how Fatigue is used to cast spells instead of prepping spells at a rest, or just having static spell points that don't regenerate.
Skimming a bit of the manual tells me that max level is 50, so I'm assuming I'll be putting more points into things quite often.
It's a Tim Cain game, which means combat is probably more of a suggestion than a requirement most of the time.

I only really picked Harm because it's the only direct damaging spell among about 20 different magic types, Which fills me with hope that this is where I've been looking for my "Book of a million tricks for a million and one situations" type of wizard fantasy that since has only been met by Morrowind.

Also I forgot to mention that the story in Underrail is more about surviving in a post apocalyptic railway system. There aren't really high stakes until later and you'll mostly be running errands for your home station for the first 20 or so hours. The Expedition DLC is more in line with what you wanted, because you have to explore some ancient ruins and figure out the mystery before your camp gets completely overrun by natives and pirates you can still complete the DLC if the camp gets detroyed, but it's more satisfying and you get a lot more answers if you keep your guys alive.

It's like instead of making things with checks and balances Emps decided every facet of the imperium should run independently, against, and with one another.

To be fair, it wasn't exactly like that because he was in control of everything.

the problem came because mr immortal super literal god tier genius didn't think of a model for the imperium to follow in event he was indisposed because why would that ever happen?

the civil war
and his enemies being literal gods
>>
You have a writ signed by the Emperor himself and rule over a region of space the empire can barely influence. Even if you technically have less “rank” than random officials from billions of light years away you determine everything that happens within your protectorate and nobody can stop you. A large part of the game is effecting your influence and leveraging power over different factions such as the explorators and the imperial navy. For example, the empire can declare a punitive expedition against your dynasty but it will fail because 1. the empire has no power there and/or 2. the navy captains defect enmass

"Nucron" "retcon" is the only one that makes sense. Necrons being victors of War in Heaven is directly incompatible with the rest of a setting. Eldar wouldn't be able to have 60 milions years of Empire if Necrons won and Orks would be equally as fucked as many other ancient species.
Similarly, if C'tan were never shattered, they would be unkillable gods on a battlefield and would be unique named characters, but they are generic units killed normally all the time and deployed all over galaxy. This also also didn't make any sense.

Reverting to 2e fixed everything. Necrons lost War in Heaven, had to surrender to Eldar and wait for a chance to strike back. This now makes perfect sense and is compatible with the rest of a setting.
C'tan are now only shards with a fraction of power, which is why they are so weak and possible to deply anywhere in galaxy.

It was an objective upgrade and the best thing that ever happened to this faction. And on top of that Necrons became more interesting to play and build, with plethora of new units

Higher tier Necrons always could talk, retained intellect and had personalities, even in 3rd edition retcon

I'm not a 40gays guy but wasnt the War in Heavens a Necron victory leading to frog extinction and then Necron's turning on to C'tan to "free" themselves? Elves surviving the war and then repopulating the universe after Tomb Kings go to sleep makes sense.

In 2nd Edition Necrons were random robots raiders similar in function to Deldar in a way, they were raiding and abducting people for mysterious goals, experimenting on them and maybe seeking to return to flesh again
According to 3rd Edition Necrons won against Old Ones and their allies. Once all life in galaxy was almost spent, they went to sleep until galaxy repopulated again. - This is what makes no sense, Eldar are stated to be dominant empire in galaxy who could do whatever they wanted and no one could face and if there was an ancient sleeping, vulnerable enemy, they could pick them aparat one by one. Instead they... just did nothing?
According to 5th Edition Necrons won against Old Ones, then turned against C'tan and then couldn't defeat Eldar anymore. The only option was to wait for an opening until Eldar, Krorks, Jokaero and those 2 other randoms fuck up and ruin each other. Eldar bullied them a bit after that and then left them be as Necrons weren't a threat anymore and if Necrons started something again, they would be easily bitch slapped down again.

This is one of the very few outright retcons in 40k.

anon, the Necrons won on the original and let the Eldar survive because doing so allowed their masters to awaken for Red Harvests to feast on the life essence of civilized living creatures. Unloike in WarLore, C'tan weren't mindless pokemon niggers back then and actually had goals and interests similar to the Chaos Gods.
>Similarly, if C'tan were never shattered, they would be unkillable gods on a battlefield and would be unique named characters, but they are generic units killed normally all the time and deployed all over galaxy. This also also didn't make any sense.
Have you read the Codex? The C'tan thata re on the battlefield are not the C'tan themselves, merely impositions that use the necrodermis of their servants to manifest for a short time period, but all over the galaxy (Dawn of War even spelled it out for the retards that were too dense to understand it the first time). A real C'tan , of course, would stomp over all the galaxy but the same can be said of the Emperor
>t was an objective upgrade and the best thing that ever happened to this faction

This has already been debunked. The Necrons couldn't because the C'tan were turnning on each other thanks to the Deceiver and the Eldar were basically gnats to them, who weren't even worth exterminating. It's only NuCrons that are all hung up over Eldar and the War in heaven, original Necrons knew they won and fucked the Old Ones and all their creations in the ass forever and now were content with the entire galaxy being their reaping field where living species would rise and be slaughtered like cattle. Iconoclast: You built a beautiful utopia and everybody was happy and perfect until the evil empire decided to declare genocide on your entire star system out of spite. >anon, the Necrons won on the original and let the Eldar survive because doing so allowed their masters to awaken for Red Harvests to feast on the life essence of civilized living creatures.
Yes, I said this. In 3e they won, in 5e Necrons lost
And it doesn't make any sense at all for Eldar to ignore Necrons for as long as Necrons are a threat.
>Have you read the Codex? The C'tan thata re on the battlefield are not the C'tan themselves
Yes, those are C'tan themselves manifested in Necrodemis bodies. This is their form since War in Heaven. You can easily destroy them and they will simply respawn again, eternal jobbers.
>It broke the entirety of 40k, since the War in heaven now makes no sense, Pariah genes make no sense and AdMech lore makes no sense. The only people that like it are redditors that wank to their favourite Black Library character and enjoy le ebin trazyn memes
It fixed nonsensical War in Heaven that directly contradicted Eldar and Imperial lore, by simply reverting to original pitch in White Dwarf and expanding on it.
>>572712584
Nothing was debunked and you aren't even disagreeing with me. Yes, Necrons won in 3rd Edition which was retconned into them losing in 5th Edition, since that's the only way to make it make sense. Otherwise Eldar would be attempting to destroy them one by one during their 60 million years sleep

So why doesnt Microsoft take the Marvel (mcu) approach? Create a good gaming engine, hire talented and proven game directors, let them hire their own team to make games.

Microsoft gave a bunch of studios infinite time and money to make art and all of them failed, the only real course of action is closing them all down, blacklisting the staff and then breaking their hands so they can never make video games again with the hope that another generation can step over the corpses of the last and make something good for once.
>>
>>572716340

They were seen as this legendary studio for over a decade thanks to New Vegas, and people treated them as the second coming of Christ that will make New Vegas 2 any day now

The great tragedy is that just before doing this, they gave them tons of unqualified black women and trannies. Had they pursued the same strategy without injecting poison into them first, I believe it would have worked out well.

What I find crazy is how a dev team looked at this

>>
>>572716546
>>572716060
It's pretty simple actually. They're good at making sequels, not at being original.
Their only good games are sequels and expansions to other games.
The ability to pick up an IP that already exists and put out a banger of a sequel that isn't just a rehash of the previous game is not the same as the ability to create an IP from scratch.

They might have made a good bg3, but they will never make a good pillars of eternity.

>Is everyone who works at these companies simply scared shitless of speaking up lest they get fired for being offensive or something? So they let a couple deranged individuals lord over the studio?
Yeah, that's basically it. So this applies to troons, blacks, whatever. Here it is:
The average person is pretty nonconfrontational, especially at work, and especially the sort of person who ends up in game dev. Right off the bat they don't want to argue. You have a team of 100 people. You hire one troon, or somebody troons out. That person goes into slack and says that your medieval fantasy game needs troons. Nobody wants to speak up because they're not confrontational, because they don't want it to be an HR thing, because they're worried about being screenshotted and having Jason Shrieker run a hit piece on them, etc. And so because you have one troon, you have troons in your fantasy game. Even if everyone knows it's stupid. This dynamic happens all the time, and with a variety of different classes and topics, not just trannies.
>>
Are we really discussing Bioware again? It's time to let it go. They're done. Dragon Age is done. Mass Effect is done and the new game if it ever comes out will be another flop. At some point you have to let go.
>>
>>572717339

>>
>>572717517
Essentially yes. Using MT on my Voidborn officer now. Previously it was objectively better to go full FEL. But now with all the INT gear and augments you can do some pretty nasty stuff. Like Cerebral Inverter where I can smack somebody with a sword and do thousands of damage despite not having a single melee talent.
>>
>>572717339
The genuine, non-outrage reason is that the first head from bioware quit when they demanded it become live service, then the second one (also from bioware) quit when they demanded another pivot and axed two years worth of work, so the only person they had left with experience at that level of wrangling was the troon, so the position was tossed to them
>>
>>572717731
>stop talking about old bad talk about new good
shut up zoomie
>>
>>572717339
Once you let someone like that into your company, it is very difficult to stop them from climbing even if they're worthless. If a protected class applies for a job and you don't hire, it can easily develop into a serious legal problem. Once they're in, it is very difficult and risky to dislodge them. And once they're in, they start applying for things internally, and it's the same dynamic. HR is telling you that you must have more troons, and HR is telling you that if you don't promote this troon it's risking X Y and Z, and so now you have a troon director.

The only real solution to this is being a small indie with obscure enough hiring that they can't even apply. Otherwise you're just accepting legal risk at all times.

Yes. HR being involved in hiring, especially for technical roles, is a disaster. But you'd also basically have to repeal the civil rights act and restore the idea of free association for any of it to matter. HR is just enforcing a gay rule, but the rule would still be there.
