Making my way through the Cathedral in SMT1 now.
The Tokyo Government Office was one of the worst dungeons I've ever done. It'd be completely fine if the encounter rate hadn't been jacked up to the point that it was rare to take a step without one, and those encounters were usually stacked up to 4+ continuous battles. My heroine also got cursed in the first tower, so I had to walk all the way back down instead of teleporting once I met up with Ravana.

I'm working on a silly little SMT mod for a game just as a project to keep myself busy, so I have a question for people more knowledgeable with the series as a whole.

If you were to take the neutral, law and chaos factions from all the games and kind of mash them together, which characters would you say would be the best representative as a sort of figurehead for each alingment and which group from what game would serve as the best foundation for it?

I mean human characters as opposed to demons, like the law or chaos heros from SMT 1, or the jackass teens from nocturne. The big boys like lucifer would end up being late game units.

Sure and I imagine I'll go with some variation of those two, but with the ring of gaea for example they are in 1, 2, nocturne and 4, but in nocturne they barely show up directly and I never actually played 4 so I don't know if they follow the same "samurai" aesthetic as the main characters so I'd have to research it a bit.

I always got the vibe that, especially with Vengeance not having a Neutral route, that Nahobino is more Chaos aligned.
The better character focus on Yoko over Tao, being so generally in-tuned with demons through the Haunts, the fact that you kill the insane Law rep Dazai no matter which Route you go on. It's just the overall impression I get even outside of leaning more towards headcanon territory.

Serph I imagine more Neutral. If he had to absolutely pick a side, then Chaos. The setting of 1 is basically a Chaosfag's wet dream and you fight the established powers in 2 that try to maintain the status quo order so yeah.

Similar to the older versions so. I'm probably thinking I'm going to base a lot of the stuff off the older games just because they have so many more human guys I could use as like base level units. For neutral I was thinking of just going with some sort of transported bunker shelter full of a random assortment of rag-tag dudes, maybe make the guys from strange journey higher level units you summon through some terminal bullshit.

I do plan on making most big characters some sort of summon you can get. I did imagine most of the protagonists as being neutral but I could see some of them going other ways. I'm planning it for conquest of elysium and if anyone knows how that goes you start with one main guy and each of your factions functions sort of like a class, so I was wondering who to make the starting guy of each group.

Oh that does put it into context. I wanted to try that game after seeing some videos, but I just couldn't grapple with how to control it and I've never played one of types of games before to begin with.
With that in mind, I feel like it'd be weird if protagonists didn't make up that 'first main guy' slot. Having Walter or Dazai be the 'main character' of a campaign or Chaos and Law respectively would just kinda feel weird, as an example. At least in my opinion.

Its really not that hard, its kind of like a 4x game but simpler and more based around fights. More importantly its very easy to mod so even a retard like me can do it.

My original thought was to just take the main character from 1 along with the law and chaos heroes and make them the three main guys, but then I thougt I may as well ask and see what other peoples thoughts were. I have also thought of going with the marine as the neutral guy and the demifiend as the chaos guy, but I don't know who I'd do for a law guy then.

You can honestly play conquest of elysium pretty easily with just the mouse and the shift key occasionally, thats how I play it at least. Dominions by the same devs is a bit more involved. I find CoE more comfy so thats why I do my modding shit with it.

But yeah, might be easiest to just go with the guys from 1 and make the other guys summons, I just wanted to check if anyone had some big brain ideas.

Thanks man. I honestly don't even know any of the hotkeys. If you want to move guys you need to transfer them under a leader and then you move him around. After that you mostly just wander around capturing resource points and fighting other players. What class you go with makes a big difference as well, druid for example can get a shitload of herbs and summon animals on the go while the baron has to focus more on recruiting regularly and turning hamlets into motte and baileys to get more yearly knights. It can be a bit awkward to get a grasp of, but I find part of the enjoyment of the game is exploring all the shit you got available to you.

The Great Will is the consciousness of the creator, visiting any given universe. It cannot manifest fully because that would break the universe due to the rules imposed upon it. Imagine you assembling an ant farm case but then trying to access it without breaking or removing the glass. You can, but you shouldn't, because when you built it, you did so in a specific way to hold and protect its inhabitants. Pic related.

- YHWH, the coalesced energy of the creator made form as an avatar to take care of the universe.
- Sabaoth, Shaddai, Elohim, and Satan - Purposeful fragments of YHWH's for managerial purposes.
- Demiurge and Yaldabaoth - Rogue fragments of YHWH who think they're the real representative of The Great Will.

SMTV has a different gameplay loop based around building up and unloading on certain specific burst turns aided by magatushi skills with their own multipliers.
As a result charge and concentrate are pretty much useless as standalone skills. They only increase damage by 1.8x, which is weaker than just using a skill twice. Theres a niche argument to be made about the mp conserving benefits, but theres other skills in the game that do that better like the restore passives and deserve the slot more. So they're pretty much obsolete skills, not worth using.

As far as protagonists go, the Hero is Neutral, Aleph is Law and Demi-Fiend is chaos. You can see that by how each of their overworld icons spin when you start each of their games. Of course, these are roleplaying games and they're all meant to be self insert avatars, but I think it has become more or less canonized like this whenever they make cameos.

Well, I guess, but it's as I said: he wouldn't be the "Demi-Fiend" anymore, the only endings where he retains his powers (and more importantly for marketability, his appearance) are the Demon ending, and the TDE, so I highly doubt Atlus is ever going to acknowledge anything besides those two ever again.

Does that actually imply that he still has "real" power though? I always interpreted that as Lucifer telling you to be strong in spirit, remaining strong in your convictions and stuff like that. I always see this "Demi-Fiend gets to keep some of his demonic powers in the Freedom ending" talk being spread as if it's a fact online, but I don't remember it being hinted as such at any point during the game. I suspect it's just one of those fandom stories that got spread around so much it just became a collective headcanon, like the whole "Hijiri is Aleph" theory.

After having played P3P on the Switch for a while now, I think I know what my biggest problem with it is - it's the fact "demon" fusion autism with it is much slower than with other SMT games such as SJ because you only level up one "demon" at the time.
