The funny thing is people always act like the game alone killed the thread when the culture changed just as much. Back then you could have people arguing about campaign, lore, maps, customs, balance, Forge ideas, leaks, books, machinima, old Bungie stuff, whatever. Sometimes the arguments were dumb but at least people actually responded to each other. You'd wake up and see fifty new replies because people were willing to type more than one sentence.Now every conversation gets buried under the same recycled image macros or someone posting obvious bait that everyone recognizes but still nobody really engages with. If somebody actually tries to make a longer post it either gets ignored or hit with a one word reply. It feels like people are terrified of having an actual discussion because that would require paying attention for more than thirty seconds. The result is the same handful of people talking to themselves every day until the thread autosages.Infinite's content drought definitely didn't help, but the thread didn't just die because there wasn't enough news. Plenty of dead series still have generals where people actually talk. The bigger problem is that nobody seems interested in carrying a conversation anymore. Everybody wants to be the guy dropping the funny reaction image or getting the last word instead of building on what someone else said. After a while even the people who wanted to discuss Halo stopped bothering because why spend five minutes writing a post that's just going to get ignored in favor of the hundredth variation of the same meme? That's what really killed it. Not just the game, but the community forgetting how to actually be a forum.
