They're all bound to being part of SONIC'S world.Jumpstarting tales of a completely different universe is how you escape that. They're trying really hard to make Amy be this catch all inspiration for women, but it's not going to go anywhere meaningful even if the movies write her as girlboss because she's not equivalent to Sonic in feat or ability. The branching dialogue doesn't really offer much aside from locking certain interactions to a specific run. the most significant thing they do with it is let you determine how Sonic treats Amy. The second half of the game is the most interesting. There is way too much backtracking. A lot of missions have you running back and forth across a zigzagging map. The designs for the maps are nice to look at but their painted, 2D appearance means certain pathways are hidden more than they're intended to be. The maps are also barren and I assume this is because the NPCs all use 3D models. The soundtrack is awful except for the opening theme. The game has almost a dozen playable characters, but you're effectively only allowed to pick two. Sonic is stapled to your party for most of the game. There's two major chapters where he isn't and that's only because the party splits up allowing you to make a second team which also has characters stapled to it. Amy is basically permanently locked to your team in the final third of the game. You can't remove her because her overworld ability is required to get past the most common obstacles. This means you only get to pick two characters for the longest and most difficult stretch of the game. One of those characters is going to be Big or Omega since there is a world where they are the only two who can reliably traverse. I think for most people the game is going to be a 4/10 at best.
