I play pos4/5, regardless of whether I pick WD, Shaman, Shadow Demon, Wyvern or whatever, my contributions are always minimal, not because I'm a shitter but because at higher ranks players know to get rid of supports first. Eul's. glimmer and ghost scepter don't do shit, you get melted in 2 secs. I still win games but 90% of my contributions are warding, dewarding and breaking smokes/revealing enemy location and dying. It's almost like you can play literally anything at pos 4/5 and get the same results.

Now, the game is watered down to cater to casuals by overbuffing supports with endless passive gold, free shards, and cheap defensive items like Glimmer and Aeon Disk. Jumping a position 5 shouldn't result in getting CC'd into oblivion and turned on by a support who has 4,000 net worth just for existing, completely ruining the thrill of hitting a mid-lane skill gap and turning the game into a participation-trophy brawler.
