Tactician/Honor do change the way height and some modifiers work, and other developers like Owlcat their difficulty level presets do affect skill checks and dice rolls (usually just by making the DC harder). I don't think they would lie and have a hidden modifier that affects dice rolls. That's also the sort of thing that dataminers would find in a matter of time if it did exist.Related, DC being the same on the different difficulty levels is the better way to do it. In owlcat's games, they have a flat modifier of something like +40 difficulty on RT's d100 system for the hardest difficulty, which leads to a poor designed situation where a specialized character who is max level has a 15% chance to pass a check, because there's something like a +90 difficulty modifier and a character will often have about 100 in a skill. It's really stupid, and makes it feel pointless to have a 15% chance to pass even on a max level specialized character. Why bother? The most pointless dialogue beat in the entire game is very early when you're getting Lae'zel out. If you send the tieflings away with deception they say they're going to go investigate a blast, and your dumb ass character has an option to ask, "what blast," as if they didn't just walk out of a crashed fucking space ship that destroyed half a coastline.

The person who has max approval with him and is even in a relationship with him at that point should not have to pass a persuasion check to stop him from ascending. That should be something he just chooses. And there are plenty of things leading up to that that should have realistically changed his mind, but in the game it has no effect on him. There are adventure paths that take place all over there.The underdark as well. The underdark goes on as large as any other region, with factions, warring states, various religions, races, etc. We only get a glimpse of a few in the game.Many of these could even be their own games. Hordes of the Underdark and some of the other NWN modules, something the size of those.

Done with the book. I found it to be utterly inoffensive. If this were a BG3 DLC campaign I think it would be enjoyable to play. I like the idea that Cazador sends his spawn off on sidequests competing with each other where they know the prize is probably nothing and it's all a mind game but they're forced to do it anyway and secretly hope it's real. It's the kind of cruel thing he would do that I hadn't thought of before. The paladin character was delightful... his dynamic with Astarion kinda reminds me of how it can be between him and Tav if you get along with him so I don't really see the angle where people are claiming there's all kinds of crazy OOC stuff happening in this book. I did not enjoy the parts about his backstory before he got to BG that just seemed like really pointless fanfiction filler I had to read through for a "payoff" that really meant nothing to me but whatever. If there's anything I would praise this book for it's the fleshing out of the the relationships between all the spawn and how their politics and stuff. 3/5
