Find a healer and tank who will do dungeons with you if you call them and help them with something they need. Find people to premade into PvP with the save time on honor grinding. Find a way to effectively farm gold either solo, duo or even trio without much competition. Having a steady income of gold and people you can call upon for different reasons is infinitely more important than random faces of discord who show up every week for a couple of hours to collect loot with you.

Yes, there is a shortage but the only thing they clearly provide is 2 curses and healthstones, you can clear every raid in the game with only 1 curse and most guilds will have 2 warlocks by the time harder content rolls around. If you choose warlock the world is your for the taking since you can do PvP, get accepted into pugs and farm gold with ease.
