are there any "discord fighters" / games with small playerbases where the pro community isn't just a circlejerk of people who have known each other forever and constantly reminisce about "the good ole days" and players who haven't actually played the game in years?having to claw your way into being good enough to compete when at a huge experience disadvantage is already hard enough without all of the social bullshit

People customizing characters to look like them always gets me smiling a bit, I liked seeing that on Arcade Quest a lot.(don't ask, I dunno her twitch)

>>1193875Yo, I might be able to after 10-11EST tonight, otherwise this weekend should be clear in that range. Just wanted to give a heads up.
>>1200212I caught your post! I have a playdate with a friend tonight so I may not be available but give me a (you) anyway once you're free and I'll let you know what's happening.
>>1200227If you've got a jam going tonight then I might just stick to my own games as well and just aim for the weekend. Things aren't as busy for this one so I should be able to bretty easily. Is there any of the flycast games that stick out btw? I haven't nabbed them still, but I could probably grab a couple (they're just more finicky compared to FBNeo ones)
>>1200237Nah don't worry about it I'm fine with playing more stuff it's just that I don't know when I'll be done with my buddy. The only flycast ones that really stick out that I haven't already tried are Tech Romancer and Plasma Sword. Akatsuki Blitzkampf is cool too if you haven't tried it but I'm literally the best player in the world at that game.
>>1200212>>1200237Looks like my friend won't be able to play tonight so I'm all freed up.
I don't really play fighting games save a few from time to time and don't care that much about how I perform as if I happen to play against someone it's most probably going to be local. That said, I got myself KOF XV and started some non-ranked matches after clearing the story with a random team.Got my ass handed to me. I already forgot all the intricacies the tutorial tries to teach you since it was barely needed during arcade and for the online I chose a team I didn't really know the moves of save for one.I feel like actually trying to get better at it since beside online there's not much in the way of single player content.Wonder if some anons would be willing to fight a shitter like me. Need to redo some specific parts of the tutorials and get better acquainted with some characters, though
Brawlhalla's got a game event going on, so B players gotta get some time in.
>>1200254>>1200342Ended up dying for a bit, but it's the weekend and I could play right now. I'll be keeping open/an ear out for the next 45mins or so, if you wanna play some of those FBneo games. I also have Akatsuki from the last time it was played in the thread.

Speaking of Duckstation, I've been wanting to try some random PS1 fightslop like Lightning Legend, Slap Happy Rhythm Busters, and Ehrgeiz.Give me a (you) if you're interested and let me know when you can play.
Its not just me right? Im 100% certain makoto would be incredibly good at pegging. I think most girls in street fighter would have some trouble getting the motion and technique down, they would need to practice. But makoto? She would be giving you multiple handsfree orgams within minutes, she would make you melt with pleasure, you just know she would have a great time rimming and fingering you too and choking you from hehind while she pounds your prostate. Makoto is a pegging queen, shes obviously made for it.
>>1223163I think you should kill yourself.
>>1223163I agree with >>1224317, out of Elena and Ibuki you think MAKOTO does the best job at pegging? Get a fucking life.
>>1224393They both have lower damage output than makoto (less fucking force) and neither have a true command grab (less ability to handle you like a girl). Yes makoto would peg better than both of them.
>>1224446spoken like a true fag. Makoto lacks the grace of a female's touch, raw force is not enough in pegging.

Are beat em ups allowed here? Didn't have any luck on /v/. Looking for someone to try this with me on fightcade.
>>1244182I always sucked at beat em ups, then again, I always sucked at fighting games.
>>1244182I never saw the appeal of beat em ups, the most boring genre ever created. Spamming the same one or two moves on the same enemies for eternity
>>1244898The main appeal is playing with bros, but they're basically 100% pure spacing.
why is steve fox so cool
I wouldn't mind setting up some bmup runs through here. It's hard to play them with pubs because you'll get a lot of wizards who know their games in and out and just spend the entire time babysitting you.
>>1246931i'm pretty sure there was a thread on /vm/ that saw a SOR playthrough once or twice. Can't really complain about someone wanting to setup some fightcade games, at least gives the thread bumps.
>>1246931Definitely. Video games are best when both players are going in completely blind. Name your game. I'm willing to try it if I haven't already.
>>1250053I haven't actually done a dive into the bmup genre, I liked some TMNT games and SoR4 a lot but that's about it. Always wanted to do a proper playthrough of the first Final Fight, probably works great with my SNES pad too.
Is Fightcade fucked up for anyone else right now? Takes ages for both my buddy and I to connect to the lobbies and then the actual matches won't go through.
Happy weekend y'all. Hope we can get some games in.
>>1244182>>1244993There's some of that but peak beat'em up is Shadow over Mystara.
>>1253779I felt robbed the first time I played the Mystara games. Beat Em Ups always felt so dull, with their limited movesets, simple combat, the level by level design that was often just flat floors, and a lack of dynamism in their combat--like even when you can juggle or beat into an opponent, it's never as fun, cool, or with weight as, say, 3D hack and slash games, even with a number of titles released within the past decade or so. Way too many beat em ups felt like this, even the ones people called peak examples of the genre. Then I finally played Tower of Doom as part of my fantasy games kick, and good fucking lord I was blown away. It was just about everything I wanted from a beat em up, it was just way too fucking cool, and it's fucking 30 years old.
I'm in the Garou lobby if anyone wants to play.
ggs if that was anyone here
>>1253792I still have yet to find that one beat em up that'll make me not hate the genre. Some have gotten close like Gaiapolis but even stuff like that ultimately fall into the same rote trappings of every other game in the genre. Maybe they're related maybe they're not but it's a lot easier for me to find really cool SHMUPs that I like enough to bother attempting 1CCs for.
anyone up to some melty?

>>1254620I don't think I've heard of that one before.
>>1244182I like Aliens vs Predator by Capcom
>>1192427>>1192427does anyone have a surefire guide to being able to pick up and fighting game and figure out combos easily? is there some sorta combo theory that someone could give me a qrd on?
>>1257198Your best bet it's googling "game" beginner guide" and go from there.if your game has a good training mode, the best way to figure out combos is checking frame data of a hit, and then check which attack you can follow with that is inside the time window of your recovery vs theirs.
>>1257198Some normal attacks can be interrupted with special moves to perform a cancel or two-in-one. Other attacks can be linked as opposed to chained, where you have to wait for the move animation to play out completely before you can input the next attack, where whether that next attack combos will be determined by the frame properties of the move as >>1258567said.
>>1257198>figure out combos easilyJust play anime shit.
>>1257198Combos aren't necessarily that important when you're starting out. Let's say a beginner combo is 2000 damage, a basic combo is 3000 damage, and a highly optimized combo is 5000, and the average character in the game has 12000 HP. That means the needed combos to kill are 6/4/3 respectively. That puts you at a disadvantage against more experienced players, BUT nevertheless means you'd only need to get +3 more hits in to get a kill. It's better to focus on fundamentals in order to block their hits and be able to get that first hit more often, especially since what combos you'd want to learn are more based off what starters you can get, which you'll become acquainted with as you play the character.
I remember when I started with SF2, which is a game more concerned about spacing than direct damage tbf, I would use sweeps and throws in lieu of combos and it worked well for learning. Especially with SF2 throws being the way they are. A knockdown is going to be advantageous in any game though.
>>1257198Footsies > Combo when starting outhttps://sonichurricane.com/?p=8330“Footsies” is oldschool slang for the mid-range ground-based aspect of fighting game strategy. The ultimate goal is to control the flow of the match, bait the opponent into committing errors, and punish everything.
After spending the last two years playing several decades worth of fightin vidya I have to say Melee is the greatest 1v1 game of all time. It isn't even close. Typical 2D fighters all have set combos made by the devs. and stupid shit in the way limiting your combos. Melee has endless possibilities all in the hands of the player. Everything is built on player expression and anything is possible. typical fighters feel robotic in comparison.I despise tr4sh and Ultimate fags tainting the name of Smash bros those are not serious competitive games
Anyone alive? I want to play something.
I've been in the mood to play CvS2 after a long hiatus if anyone's down.
>>1260778sorry bro this isn't a party game thread

>>1262004>real smash, cry me a riv-ACK!
>>1261879>>1262134Melee blows your favorite fighter out of the water, guaranteed higher skill ceiling with better mechanics
>>1262134>Seething about smash>Posts redneck dramaLol manchild.
>>1260778>Typical 2D fighters all have set combos made by the devs, and stupid shit in the way of limiting your combosNot really. There's the incredibly basic stuff for mashers and newbies like Target Combos or the Magic Series, but otherwise no: they define moves and then a lot of it is up to the players to create with experimentation and expression. It's honestly why a lot of new players struggle with combos, because they don't understand that the real combo fiends start by getting acquainted with the individual moves and their properties, which helps you understand why the combo is working the way it is and freestyle when the situation gets irregular. Newbies just think "well this is the string of moves that the devs permitted" and are too rigid in their starters and execution as a resultAnd Melee isn't even the best platform fighter. RushRev and Rivals of Aether are much more well-designed games.
Marvel 2 is just as much about "player expression," it's just a bunch of assets dumped in a pot. It doesn't change the fact that there are clearly optimized methods of play and the game is largely solved. I watched two pro Melee players putting on an exhibition a couple months ago and it was two spacies taking turns doing shine chains into off-stage > spike ToDs ad nauseum. It's just gated by execution because it's so clearly outside how the devs intended anyone to play the game, which I guess this guy is saying is a good thing? Don't really understand why. Just makes the game an execution gauntlet for optimal strats that occurred haphazardly by minimally tested move properties where the winner is just whoever no-lifed the game enough for that execution to become second nature. Kinda funny, Melee's way more guilty of what people ordinarily blame as the reason people don't play other FGs; its basic movement is gated by execution and at its tip-top-most level of play (spacie v. spacie) execution is about the only element left of a game left in it. That reminds me though, speaking of Marvel 2, I always wondered just how incidental its tech is, like did they give Magneto a 1f low short just because they needed to conserve memory for all the other sprites and were like "fuck it" and just happened to remove a bunch of frames from in particular by total happenstance. Or was somebody like "you know what'd be funny"
>>1262231>seethes about redneck drama>takes up for manchild gamekek teapot
>>1262402>RushRev and Rivals of Aether are much more well-designed games.way to ruin all your credibility>>1262544The two top players are a Marth and Sheik player, you obviously don't have a clue or how Melee works at all. Melee is chess to any of your favorite 2D fighters checkers
>>1262586This isn't /vg/. You don't need to bump the thread with shitposting for it to stay up
>>1262580>No uPathetic, I don't even play Melee but I always find it funny how mad it makes FGC poser babies because they are desperate about being taken seriously and Smash Bros. "taint" their "reputation". Also, as anon said here >>1262544, it having more demanding execution doesn't make it better, and aside from games with multiple iterations, I think traditional fighting games also land in "put random values on moves and see how they feel like, people will find combos themselves". It's impossible for any game designer to perfectly understand every single move and how it connects to others in their kit aside from particular cases, that's why the Magic Series exists in the first place, no need to overly focus on what combos together when you have a system that lets you autocancel a type of move into another, and that itself makes that type of game also open. Melee is a good fighting game because it has good weight and momentum on top of that (also has Nintendo characters, people love those), not many games use momentum right, no wonder so many smash clones fail, and why Brawl and Ultimate are less liked.
>>1262598yes no ukwab
>>1262544>>1262598Adding to this, in Melee DI and SDI make every hit and combo being not entirely true and also gives the opponent the chance to continue engaging in the fight instead of waiting the combo to end, it's the best form of combo breaking there is.
>>1262602I accept your concession.>>1262603that's a good point, I had forgotten about it. At the end of the day they are very different systems, DI would never work in any other fighting game.
>>1262612no you don'tkwab
>>1262603>>1262612DI is more interesting in Yomi Hustle than it is in Smash. Melee has had some good ideas, but the genre has moved on from it in the decades since it's come out.
>>1262631all the games that came out after are absolute shit in comparison with not nearly as high a skill ceiling and mechanics existing only to limit the player and simplify systems. Such as being able to grab ledge from every direction. DI, movement, pacing, combos all combine to make melee the greatest 1v1 game out there
>>1262683I like it more as a 2v2 game, personally.
>>1262683Nah, Rushdown Revolt and Yomi Hustle are way better at squeezing peak gameplay out of their aspects of movement, pacing, combos, and their implementation of DI. >>1262685Platform fighters in general are better off as 2v2 instead of 1v1. It helps make up for their lackluster defensive game. It's why I'm looking forward to Multiversus coming back out, even if it's casual sloppa.
>>1262402>RushRev and Rivals of Aether are much more well-designed games.easiest way to out yourself as not knowing a thing about platform fightersRushrev is Melee made by money-hungry retards, Rivals is just plain bad and makes for awful gameplay at higher levels. Not to mention your take is abysmal and missing the point of OP>>12626852v2 is the connoisseur's choice, it's like platfighters were made for it
>>1262544>he winner is just whoever no-lifed the game enough for that execution to become second nature>there are clearly optimized methods of play and the game is largely solvedAll of this is completely wrong, wasted dubs on a low IQ ignorant faggot. If this were true the top players wouldn't be a bunch of zoomers who started playing during the pandemic, if this were true the tier list wouldnt be constantly changing like it. The top player uses marth isn't even a spacie.Melee isn't even close to being "figured out" like all your typical 2D fighters especially a game as old as Melee.
>>1263645>weeb reactionopinion discarded
It all just reinforces the point that Smashies are those annoying kinds of nerds who act like they're beating you up in the video game because of how impulsively their game is played and whether their games are impressive to play or not doesn't matter because the PEOPLE playing them are all fucking weird. Congrats on grinding ill fitting analog controls for a 2D game until you could be godlike without thinking, or just nuthugging total strangers and being totally unable to do any of it yourself, whichever one you're doing. But this all furthers the long standing battle between smashies and FG players, it isn't necessarily your games, it's YOU. We don't want you. You're combative, hostile, and annoying to be around.
And no, nobody's lugging around your 30 in. CRTs that you refuse to play the game on anything else just for you little pissants to shit up the place, nor are we letting YOU bring them because it still brings in the vermin. Fuck right off.
Above is autism that I refuse to read, lol. The REAL and very much simple reason to dislike Smashies is that they're never constructive. They don't participate in conversations other than to say their game is better than yours, they take no interest when people actually discuss that fact, and most of all: they never try to get matches going. They embody Andrew Dobson. There's retards posting in this thread about games that'll never get a match and they got zero replies, but they still try. There's surely no need for a game to be good or played well either to get discussed: look at those dumbasses that played Akatsuki a while back. The fact that you basically never see a "here's my code, let's do matches" shit outside of designated /v/eekend threads is very telling.

found this thread by chance and it got me thinking, are there any other argies or south americans here to play with? not seriously just to fuck around casually in like uni2 or idk, kof or even gg, etc, I actually have more fighting games than someone that plays at low level like me knows what to do withit's rough because I swear im the only person in this god forsaken country that owns a pc and plays those kinds of games online sometimes, so I have to play with other guys from NA (unless it's a game with netcode not really up to par with older releases like uni2)

>>1272980Real talk, Fighting is Magic was never going to be a good game solely because of the engine. Fighter Maker is worse than MUGEN, the Hasbro C&D was a blessing in disguise since the devs got handouts from both Lauren Faust and Mike Z. They completely squandered the opportunity sadly, but even now the scuffed version of TFH we have now is better than what a finished Fighting is Magic would have beenAnd maybe one day enough people will downpatch to version 2.3.1 (better game performance, better netcode, subjectively better balance and none of the controversial season pass characters) that we can get a tournament scene for it

It's been 2 months and no luck getting a reply for my KoF XV post.Too bad, ended uninstalling the game since the file size is pretty big and I wasn't playing it much.On the other hand, I'll try playing DOA5 core fighters. It's limited in content since it's the free version but hey it's free.Just got back from a session of DOA3 on the xbox and I'm yearning for some pvp either online or local but I don't think I'll get much luck getting IRL friends to come over to specifically play DOA.

>>1278144I see what you mean, but surely they would have changed engines eventually, right? even if it got C&D'd, it was nice to see Faust personally go help out the team for it, she was always close to the mlp fandom iirc and this was one of the best ways she showed it, but it's still such a shame we never got the game with the actual characters, not that the original ones are bad or inferior.I hope that, somehow someway TFH gets out of its current situation, a game like that deserves more attention from the fighting game scene, and better than what it got
>>1282864I don't particularly care for it. I know community's a big part of it for a lot of people, but when I play I really just wanna play. If I get some familiarity after playing for a while and across sessions, sure, but otherwise it just doesn't feel like the time or place for much beyond pleasantries.
>>1283722I don't think TFH can really ever make a comeback, as at this point the best it'd get is some form of community install and caster similar to how MBAACC is set up, but I'd hope that M6 can move forward onto a new project, even if it means having to set up a new studio. Hell, Mike Z would probably give them the Lab Zero name out of spite or at least use the Z-Engine again, and a new cartoonish fighting game that isn't so tied to The Forbidden Show would probably do numbers. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, because Texas and Stronghoof were kinda ehhhhh, but the original 6 were paragons of their archetypes, and Shanty was pretty good, so maybe they'd still be able to pull off a great new entry.
How do I stop getting tilted? 1 dropped combo or one retarded decision spirals me into even more drops and retarded decisions. Even if I end up winning the set I'm not enjoying myself for fucking up things I shouldn't be fucking up.

This is gonna sound weird, but I really don't enjoy this SF6 patch. I played Luke, I know he was broken, and I actually think most of the nerfs on him were well done, especially the nerf on his jumpins and crouch medium kick hurtbox. But the universal damage nerf is really bumming me out. I usually didn't like SF since I always thought the neutral game was boring and the damage on average is fairly low, outside of stun stuff with max resources, but SF6 was the one SF game I had fun with since you could sneak in a 2MK and get a two touch situation going. I also really liked 50/50s off knockdowns, but wakeup Drive Reversal kinda nerfs that a bit. Is there anyone else feeling this, or am I just crazy? Honestly I wanted damage buffs across the board but I guess Capcom really just wants the game to be more about poking over and over again, guess I'll go back to MBAACC or ASBR.

Why doesn't MvC2 have a good central info repository? I got curious about a couple characters but can't even find frame data for them. Is it all hidden in character Discords?
>>1318471probablyi recall someone bitching about that being a thing and seemed to be talking in regards to mvc2 specifically without directly mentioning iti always take discord owners as attention whores with no life anyway
>>1318471Supercombo is slowly trying to shore up its pages, but the info on there is added at a glacial pace compared to anything on Dustloop or Mizuumi. For MvC2 specifically, only a fraction of the characters have pages updated to the standard people expect. That being said, yeah I have no idea why it's so bad, and why this persists for a lot of Capcom games in general. After all, it's hard to find a reasonable explanation when even Guilty Gear: TML generally has better detailed character pages.
here's to another 200 hours in a game before i even consider ranked
>>1318471old games are the hardest to find info for.
wtf is this tranny menu shitless than a day to spend the whale bux
>>1318667There's plenty of old games that have info, and they certainly get a relatively decent amount of players. I'd say it's more that the major SNK and Capcom fighting, due to being popular in the west longer, have a lot of info that's shared in old guides and videos, and the crowd that plays them just continues to rely on them. Why fill up Dream Cancel with info if you can just share The Beginner's Guide to KoF and some combo videos and then they figure out the rest. Then on the other end of things, you have indie fighters, airdashers, and arcade titles that got their second lease on life thanks to Fightcade, and their players are more of a different/newer that wants their info standardized. That's how you end up with 3S being one of the most enduring fighting games ever, but its SuperCombo pages were a mess until 2021, and even then they're still kinda eh in terms of info and breakdown compared to, say, the Cyberbots page on Mizuumi

There's some quirks to look out for, like how the chain system isn't just cancels like in other, similar games, but otherwise it's not too hard to try to get into.If anything, the biggest thing is just that it feels quick to the point of being a bit spastic, to where even playing other fast fighters doesn't assure you'll like it, but it's not actually bad in that regard. But then when he just infinitely sprints up and shines loops or doesnt let me touch the stage a single time because i clearly suck he pops off like "omg am i mango!" and he gets tilted if i complain about not having fun in the clearly superior most funsies game evah "gotta di that gotta tech that" Like fuck man play online with people that can actually play instead of using your friend like a human training dummy. /vm/ is too slow of a board for constant fighting game lobbies, unless a lot of anons start regularly playing together it would be really hard to keep these up. And as the other anon said, there's always a thread on /v/ nowadays if you don't want to bother with /vg/ schizos. But I still appreciate a slow thread like this, it doesn't have waifu spammers and you're more likely to find a consistent partner in here without really having to add tons of people to your friend list.
>>1397206how unfortunate
>>1396865>the point of these threads now that there's always one fightan thread up on /v/In theory:1) /vm/ being slow and getting fewer shitposters than /v/ and /vg/ means that any amount of new posts sticks out in the thread watcher, so it's easier to catch that something's being ran or something neat is being discussed/posted2) You can see what was ran quite a while ago, and it's not impossible that (You)ing a half-year-old post could result in games, whereas everything gets scattered to the five winds of the Archive quite quickly on /v/ But the main problem is that the playerbase--not the pace or structure--of /vm/ isn't really conducive to 1v1 games. Most aren't really the kind to set things up or wait for players; the former kills a lot of potential for organizing sessions with any random anon, and the latter means that any 3rd player that joins will quickly be lost, instead of spectating or waiting for a 4th.
>>1401095/v/ has been unusable for like a decade now. Are the threads there really quality?

Happy for Capcom Fighting Collection 2. People here getting it too? Would love to have some routine competition.
>>1411622It's probably the first that actually might matter a damn, as it's all games that are stuck with Flycast's serviceable-yet-mediocre rollback, but also it contains Fighting Evo and you can't get me to spend money on that in even the most tangential of ways.
>>1411706I'm glad to encounter a sane person who realizes Flycast net play kinda dookie and Fightcade might not be the retreat it usually is. Better option for CvS2, an actual excuse to dig into CvS Pro, a chance for A3 Upper to get a competitive following in the West whatsoever (probably what I'm most excited for).
>>1412802A3 Upper getting a release is so cool because it actually nerfed V-ism and Dhalsim. And yeah, this collection (and MvC2 in the Marvel collection) are massive improvements from Flycast. CPS2 & Neo Geo games have good netplay and training modes on Fightcade sure but NAOMI/DC games getting quality ports can only be a good thing. I'm so excited to play some Project Justice, brushed up a bit on my Kyoko today.
>>1412820I'm glad to hear that MvC2 did prove to have better rollback, as being better than Flycast would absolute get me to buy Collection 2 for some online Power Stone and such, especially if they can get 4 rollback working fine for PS2 (which isn't impossible but a lot of devs shy away from). I just didn't get the Marvel collection myself precisely because MvC2 is the only one worth getting when FBNeo netcode is fucking amazing, and Marvel 2 is kinda stinky.
>>1412940I hear that. Tempted to buy it on principle but it'd only be for Marvel 2 and would just lab stuff for a week then drop it anyway. Way more looking forward to this next one. Furthermore on the subject of Marvel 2, it's wild to me people were finding new tech after years, all by virtue of getting a re-release.
>>1412952I wish I could get into Marvel 2, since obviously people have a lot of fun with it, but I can't enjoy its 4 button system after playing a lot of MSHvSF, and it feels like it's got some of the Fighting Evo problem where some characters just mechanically or visually weren't meant to work together. Like VSav has some great sprites and and a cool art style, but when you put Bulleta and Morrigan against the other styles or more recent characters, they somewhat start to stick out like Simon in Harmony of Despair But who knows, if it goes on sale, might grab it just to get the only chance to really play with Ruby Heart and SonSon. Honestly, if either made it into a modern fightan, it'd be an instant purchase for me (especially since they're also not very good in MvC2 either)
>>1412820>Marvel collectionYou reminded me, the website says Anita is selectable in MSH. Did they do anything to her at all to make her less unfinished? Even just her own HUD stuff so it's not a copy of Thanos?

Thoughts on SvC Chaos?
This would literally be one of the greatest games to ever be made, why can't it be made?????
>>1424015Kinda played out. I'd take Kellogs vs ASW or SNK. The Honey Smacks Frog especially would fit either a lot more than Capcom

>>1418148>>1423943CvS2 did it betterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY2cV85zozU
CvS2 is a great game in terms of aesthetic and mechanics but the roster is fucking boring with very few exceptions. SvC Chaos is an unpolished and kind of fucked up game but the roster choices were much more interesting. Also NGBC shits all over CFJ by all metrics but that's not even fair really.

If we could all agree to play some fightan game and host lobbies every so often, which one would you guys wanna play? Or we could do a few and rotate. Could be something you've never played or some random kusoge.
>>1429022Thought about it for a bit, but I don't think there's any particular ones that I'd feel like I'd want to set a date for, other than maybe the MvC3 guy, but he's also regular on Sunday and I still usually end up missing it (although mostly cuz the past couple of times, I wasn't able to connect)I would be down for maybe setting a time for general fighting games, and then playing whatever out of what people has. Feels like a better idea, since playing fightans kinda depends on what you are in the mood for that specific day, and the way matches split up players means that it'd be better to prioritize getting a match going than a match in a specific game (like it's better to get one FT10 of Melty and one FT10 of Guilty Gear going at the same time than 3 people rotating in Melty and 1 person stuck playing nothing)
>>1424557>>1424562SvC Chaos was also cheaper to make and did not look as good as CvS2
>>1320390The worst example of this might be the SF4 SuperCombo wiki, all the character pages are just massive frame data dumps without so much as a Cliff's Notes move list for each character
>>1432236It's crazy how the bigger the game the less likely it'll have a quality wiki, SF6 being the major exception that I've seen. Nearly every notable 3D fighter in the major franchises has near-zero quality documentation but I can find hitbox & frame data and/or playstyle guides for Flash games, PSP games, Neo Turf Masters, fangames, etc.Avengers in Galactic Storm has a better wiki than nearly every Capcom Marvel game.

>>1432371Saturdays don't work for me right now, which I guess is self-evident by being late to reply. Sundays would probably be best, or some weekday like Tuesday or Thursday. >game ideasWell out of my pool of games, I'd say: GGACR, GGXrd-R2, MSHvSF, MvC1, MBAACC, TFH, Skullgirls, DBFZ, Rivals of Aether, Yomi Hustle, Matrimelee, Vsav, RushRev, Arcana Heart 3 LMSS!!!Xtend, Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness, and casual Slippi (I don't really fuck with wavedashing and such).I could also mix in Strive, MvC:I, SFV, and maybe Tekken 7, if given enough notice ahead to install them. Same goes for any FBNeo fightcade game, but preferably avoiding anything NAOMI because Flycast is stinky. Might also look into Pokemon Close Combat, Tekken 3, Bloody Roar 2, and Untitled Risk of Rain Fighting Game as options, but I think those rely on direct IP, which of course I wouldn't really want to throw out into the thread Things that aren't fighting games but basically are considered fighting games, like Acceleration of SUGURI 2, Lethal League, and Ninza are also all fair game in my book, as long as they're free or I own it.

SF6 throw loops suckhttps://twitter.com/KyokujiFGC/status/1835707693312479536#m>>1435187That's fair enough
>>1436915As cracked as it sounds, I don't hate the unholy idea of the attacker somehow having both meaty and grab without it even being a typical option select. I think the solution is more that grabs should inherently create enough spacing that, if they walk forward the tiny amount required to throw loop, you can spot it and that's where you get enough time to counter it. Of course, all it takes is one kara throw to spoil the bunch, but whatever.

Why are inputs so much harder in SFA3 than SF6?
>>1442450Main > Monitoring > Unread Line
>>1444815Thanks, but I mean for individual posts, since it's possible to have read a post already through quote embeds without scrolling to that part of the page. Clover marks individual posts as unread which gets cleared when you view them both by following a quote or by scrolling.

>>1444914Mostly if you have someone else to play with. There's not a lot of people online, but the netcode isn't too bad if you're play with someone wired in the next region over. That being said, given how far in you have to get to experience the positives of USF4, and how its scrubbier elements play out, you'd get a lot of the same but much more quickly apparent and appreciable with something like T7 instead.
Why is Tekken 2 so much more popular than Tekken 3, despite being worse in every way?Ive randomly seen Tekken 2 tournaments in my town, even this year, but never hear about Tekken 3. I see a lot of buzz about Tekken 2 online, even by young zoomers. I just dont get it
>>1451820Really now? I thought everyone was instead getting hyped for Tekken 3 coming to Fightcade (in 2037 when they finally get off their asses and merge Duckstation-Rollback)
>>1451979Whats the deal with that anyway? I thought duckstation support was coming like 2 years ago
Does anyone know how to turn off those annoying scanlines on every fightcade game? And how to get reshade to work with it?
>>1451986Last I checked, they were more concerned with getting Flycast up to snuff, which is a pipe dream as Flycast rollback being anywhere near as good as FBNeo's is still a long ways away. I guess in any case, it is ultimately better to try to improve what they already have, but I know a lot of people would be fine with a slapdash solution that just provides a lobby frontend.
Might sound retarded but how do i play fighting games? My friend got me guilty gear strive and so far i have been playing the brown queen and i wonder if there's some better way to learn than just sitting in practice mode and trying to chain stuff together.I got placed in the middle layer in multiplayer and while i lost every time until i was down to the third lowest although i got close to winning up there. Also whats the preferred control method? I have been playing on my steamdeck but my right hand hurts now, i also have a PC to play on.
>>1451820Of the infinite-stage Tekken games, I guess 2 has the least cheese? 3 has some goofy shit possible among its roster and Tag 1 has some truly fucked up characters, 2 has what makes Tekken feel like Tekken but without Eddy or Dr. B or whatever (meanwhile 1 is fucking rough and there's that one King button that's so insanely plus on block that you're better off getting hit by it).
>>1452635The best I can recommend as a starting point is to just go for knockdowns. If you this means all your combos are just 3-hits that end in a sweep, then that's still perfectly fine. What matters is that you're creating more opportunities for damage, and when you knock someone down, you're creating a situation with the best amount of options to try to break their guard and cause more damage. From there, a lot of things start to come more easily. Either you'll naturally pick up on things, or it focuses your gameplan enough that you should start to be able to identify specific problems to improve on, which makes it easier to search for info without being lost or overwhelmed.
>>1452635>how do i play fighting games? It's pre-strive but like this video that illustrates different universal mechanics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R0hbe8HZj0From there you can try and find other character/game specific guides if/when needed, but you can also just experiment and try random moves and see what works. I think the genre starts getting really fun once you get enough experience controlling your character and playing against other humans to start dictating the flow of the match instead of just trading hits. For Gio this would be something like keeping them as close as possible at all times and not giving them a second to think. >preferred control method?Whatever is comfortable and on hand. Plenty of really good players play with a standard controller or a keyboard, so you shouldn't feel the need to buy a fancy fg controller unless you want one but arcade stick is the funnest.
>>1452635I have never been able to play fighting games until i tried them on keyboard. It all comes down to mastering inputs, it'll take a lot of practice. Just place a bunch of games, go through the library of all the classic fighting games, help you practice and have fun
>>1453595>The best I can recommend as a starting point is to just go for knockdowns.Yeah that is kinda what i go for. After doing some regular and heavy slashes the enemy gets their bearings so i retreat a little and attempt to block their approach which which always almost works with overly aggressive players. >Either you'll naturally pick up on thingsObviously all attacks are different but as someone who was addicted to LoL, most attacks in fighting games kinda feel like the same damaging cc move. I kinda know when to push and when to back down but i dont *feel* the mechanics if that makes sense. At least i am at the point now where i can reliably beat arcade mode with ram.>>1453651I think the genre starts getting really fun once you get enough experience controlling your character and playing against other humans to start dictating the flow of the match instead of just trading hits.Yeah i am not going balls to the wall as i see recommended with my character but play fairly simple. But you are right, i feel like that even at my point, the control i have is more than what most LoL characters need to play. >so you shouldn't feel the need to buy a fancy fg controller unless you want oneI found electronics kits for 20 bucks online and i can print the rest so i could diy one for 30$. That sounds cheap but at the same time i dont think that the mass produced arcade cabinets that birthed this genre had some fancy 200$ buttons. I am very open to trying this out since my wrist still hurts from the steam deck.>>1453774Yeah i think that even if i stay with my current controller i can still play comfortably and get better over time. I might experiment with the touch panels as they have auto centering and that might be interesting, dunno what is and what isn't allowed however.
Do you guys do lobbies (or hell even tourneys) here often? Looking across different boards for fighting game playing
>>1455591This board has like 3 posts per hour go to the /v/ fightan thread for thst
>>1455591Unfortunately >>1455697 is correct, it's a bit hard to get lobbies on the go because of how slow the board/thread is. Best case scenario somebody eventually replies and you get a consistent sparring partner for whichever game you play. Having a tournament would be fun but probably would take a while and be a pain to organize.
>>1455591Thread's ultimately more for slow paced discussion while the /v/ threads are for lobbies, but you could always try to schedule sometime if you wanted to.
>>1455591There's a SF6 tournament this weekend:https://challonge.com/The_Real_BoutNo it doesn't happen often.

>>1466440Because Flycast is a pain in the ass and also better for beginners as you're likely to fight more newcomers. Kinda like how 3rd Strike online on PS3 and Xbox 360 was a different beast than playing 3rd Strike on GGPO & Supercade back in the day.

>>1466464Yeah, like I'm not one to play MvC2 normally anyways, cuz for the kind of game it is, you're honestly just better off playing MUGEN, but I'd nevertheless be more willing to play it when people asked if it weren't for Flycast being so subpar at online. Maybe I just dunno how to set it up properly, but I've never had a decent experience using it. It's why I'm infinitely more interested in Fighting Collection 2 instead, because it's basically all Flycast games, whereas all the good games in the Marvel collection are FBNeo titles.

So I am a complete bottom barrel scrub at these games and luckily all my friends are too. When we had some time we fucked around a bit in both Melty Blood Type Lumina and Soul Calibur 6. I could win reliably in SC6, if through nothing else but muscle memory since I've always dabbled in that series, but I got my ass gaped in MB despite playing a bit of the first game. Is there something else going on with combos/movement in that game? It always felt like there was some third input to everything I was not pressing in order to make my characters work.
>>1504528I mean, Soul Calibur and Melty/anime fighters are really different. SC has a 3D plane, slow combos and neutral whereas MB is fast paced, huge hitboxes and pretty technical in execution.
