At launch I did nothing but horse+spear faggotry and raged the shit out of every chiv vet duel faggot who would come to objective servers to dunk on random noobs. 100% facts. Competitive fags are like the kids on the playground who want to make rules for how to play cops and robbers, or cowboys and Indians that directly benefit themselves.
So many games suffer from this these days too.
There is something to be said about having some element of "balance", but their balance isn't a healthy balance.
Good balance takes the game as a whole and tries to make ALL elements of gameplay competitive with each other; or at least offer a rock paper scissors style of counters balance.
For the competitive fag tho, its not about having a wide variety ways to play/strategies, its about narrowing down the gameplay to a small niche strategy in which "technical skill" dominates and no other forms of gameplay can disrupt their circle jerk.

The Finals is a great example of a game going through a similar struggle.
One side supports crazy explosives, equipment and level/building destruction, while the other side (the "competitives") all want most shit nerfed to uselessness so that mid range aim duels with rifles and smgs are the only valid form of "competitive" gameplay.
I think the devs are finally pumping the breaks as the community as a whole are beginning to reject those players and their demands for that kind of balance, but for a while it seemed the balance was focusing around that sort of mindset

Horses were never nerfed. Applying higher damage to the rider at high speed. Thats pretty much the only change they got. Which doesnt matter because if the horse even brushes against you, it will bump you and interrupt your attack while the rider still swings at you.
If anything horses were buffed since toolboxes got constantly nerfed and gutted with every single patch

As far as maps go, it's:
Age of Chiv < Mordhau < Chiv 2 <<< Chiv 1

The TO was what made Chiv 1 so special, not the combat system. Chiv 1's maps had the best atmosphere, best aesthetic, best storyline, and most fun objectives. It didn't so heavily favor the attackers either, encouraging team stacking like Chiv 2.

The skill ceiling is too high. I have to nerf myself 90% of the time even in Bannerlord otherwise I'll bully the entire enemy team, and I don't get off to that. I want to struggle against something that can conceivably defeat me, not pub stomp literally ALL my games. So from the opposite view, when players like me 1vx it feels like they are getting pub stomped every game, and they never get those "good" games where they do pretty well like in other genres. They either perform mediocre or they're stomped for dozens of matches, and that's no fun.

The only conceivable solution is similar to what Dark and Darker pulled off by introducing all sorts of new elements around it. If you want a ceiling as high as Mordhau, you'll need PvE with actually good NPCs that a non-hardcore and mediocre community can still have fun with, and of course even hardcore players would actually enjoy since the point is that the PvE needs to actually be fun. I don't think PvP can ever really be fixed, since they nerfed the skill ceiling with Chiv 2 and it just made the game anti-long term because of the lack of depth. If you just keep it Mordhau but add long CD bullshit abilities whose CD persists even after death like rage mode attacks that damage players even if they block/parry or temporary super armor regardless of your actions, that might make it more tolerable for less skilled players.

I do think this is a step in the right direction, though obviously at this point a new game would need to be made for the next attempt at the genre. There is real merit in those LOTR horde mods I played, the good maps anyway like Helm's Deep. You get the atmosphere down, a solid PvE experience, some story mode and general singleplayer stuff with bots that aren't retards and that's a fine game on its own. Even if the PvP was unchanged and abilities were kept PvE/solo only, many players would forgive getting their asses handed to them if the rest of the game had real meat to enjoy.

got chiv 2 for free recently and i've put a decent amount of hours into it, doesn't have nearly the same cancerous shit as mordhau, so far the most annoying thing about the game is how scared teammates seem to be of pushing and how easily they always seem to die, you'll have a bunch of teammates beside you one second and a few seconds later they're all dead, I don't recall this happening in mordhau as often. also playing defence is kind of boring to me, and when you join a server it'll usually be defence because players are more likely to leave that side.

And if it's not a troll demolishing my shit, it's some noob because team-damaging emplacements gives points. This is why I don't really bother with trying on defense. I sacrifice fun and points actually playing objective and it doesn't mean shit in the end.

I destroy all engineer emplacements because 99% of them don't know shit about placing barriers. Most of the times, they're actually helping the attackers. For instance, they think that placing a barrier to block a bomb or push site will stop the enemy from accessing it. It won't because the attackers can just clip through the barrier and interact with the objective point. The barrier then protects the enemy as they're basically sitting inside/behind it. You have to place the barrier like 5 meters away from the objective at least (which makes it useless anyways as the enemy team will just go around them). Then there's the assholes who place barriers at your back. My advice is just don't play engineer. It's a waste of a slot when you could be playing an actually useful defense class like Defender.

It's funny you sound so elitist yet admittedly only play for casual braindead fun and are filtered by any sort of swing manipulation which you consider innately exploitative. You're right to some extent, but Mordhau did a good job (at initial release anyway) of turning those unintentional tricks into legitimate mechanics that look (slightly) less goofy. It wasn't perfect but catered to both foppish TO players and LTS nerds.

If Chivalry 2 was so perfectly casual, why didn't it pop off? The truth is melee slashers are strangely niche and will only ever be flavour of the month for most people. Maybe they're too intimidating for people and too far removed from first person left click shoot gun. They sit in a weird place between fps and fighting games and I think it's too much for people. The huge skill ceiling (whether you consider it exploits or not) facilitates nasty pub stomping I agree, and it's hard for people to even understand what's going on because a lot of it is weird hidden tech, whereas with your fps and counterstrikes everyone is on equal footing and everyone gets it.

What he did was make a video discussing the game, and in that video he placed a brief text flash saying that there's no anticheat on the PC gamepass of the game. He didn't cheat nor did he provide explicit instructions on how to do so. However the devs already didn't like him before this because he has been roasting them for years, so they used this as an excuse to ban him for "promoting cheating" or some dumb shit like that. Dude was struggling financially before this and trying to make a living off of Chiv youtube content and 1v1 coaching, sometimes failing to pay his bills on time resulting in his internet being shut down mid stream, so this likely contributed to him killing himself less than a month later. Why do people think KD in Chiv 2 TO is reflective of individual skill? Sure, individual skill is a huge component of success, but I've found teamwork and map balance to be bigger factors in TO success. I've seen level 1000s ganked like chumps because half their team is off chasing an archer for instance. Much like historical battles, in Chiv, what typically kills you isn't the guy in front of you, but his buddies on your peripheral after all. Course, in Mord it's all personal skill as I've seen a sweat 1v9 and come out on top.

It's a bug. In the initial release, you lost your helmet, you'd see your characters custom hair. TB introduced the bug years ago in one of the initial patches and has never bothered fixing it. There's also another bug that resets all of your characters to their initial gear that's been in since 1.0. It's still less disastrous then some of Mord's bugs though (such as the one that reset your gold/xp).

Citadel looks a lot less impressive in Chiv 2 than 1. I know it's meant to be more realistic (and playable), but I miss the high fantasy, almost surreal feel of Malric's main base from the original game. Every Chiv release since the Source mod has gotten less and less grandiose.

How do you guys hold weapons in the windup phase for so long. I've seen people hold mauls and greatswords for up to 3-4 seconds. I know it's by incorporating feints, but whenever I feint my attack, my guy always goes back to the neutral position before being able to initiate another attack. These guys just hold their weapons off to the side like it's Mount and Blade or something.

Being able to manipulate the attack speed with camera movement is a core mechanic in these types of games and removing it completely would dumb down the gameplay far too much. The game also has several mechanics in place to make ballerina spins less common, like being able to hold to block and the lowered camera speed during swings. If you're eating too many attacks, try to counter less and focus more on simply blocking and footwork. Also, try a class with shield, like the Guardian knight or man at arms. They can hold block pretty much forever.

I see it's a survival game, does that mean there's full loot pvp and you lose all your shit when dying? If so, I'm not playing it. Having to farm materials for 30-60 minutes every time you die to get geared up for combat sounds like a massive slog and the opposite of a fun time. I guess you can maybe counter this by having a well protected base with an armory full of extra gear, but still doesn't sound appealing to me. A big reason why Chiv 2 is so much fun is the non stop chaos and generally low stakes due to there being no MMR match making.
