Hopefully you learn to play multiplayer games without soloing, and Acolytes have a lot to offer parties already.
Merchants are rightfully balanced as being least attractive to parties and are supposed to be the most difficult class to level because they can make the most zeny through their discounts/overcharge, creation, forging, upgrading, etc skills.

My advice to you is to create your own offline server, solo-tard.

ragna/v/ dev, you should seriously reconsider your removal of a 77 luk requirement on the arc angeling card for the doubling of hp and sp regeneration.
Without a costly sacrifice on the arc angeling card, the Pharaoh card will be completely invalidated, along with others I'm not even aware of surely.

Arcadia had not been announced for reopening at the time I made the thread, but it's likely going to become the most popular pre-renewal server in the coming months, just as it once was when it was called OriginsRO.

Personally, I'm hoping that Yanis Chronicles gains more popularity than Arcadia but it's not likely, however both seem to be very good future options for oldschool RO fans who dislike too much customization, with one allowing multiclienting and the other not allowing it.

While I agree that the leveling experience can be made fun and social to a degree, it's largely a slog and viewed as something to get done so that you can either move on to the aforementioned meat of the game.
This is RO1 we're talking about here. The visuals are outdated, the gameplay is outdated.
It's not exactly a "fun" gameplay when leveing. Nothing dazzling to look at.

The most exciting parts are finding rare items at endgame, overcoming dangerous bosses with your party using their cool and unique roles, and conquering others in PvP.
Whacking the common monsters over and over isn't peak gaming as you claim it to be.

I don't blame anyone wanting to get to endgame, and I'm surprised more players aren't flocking to 100x rates or higher given how little free time they have these days, let alone 5x.
1x rates are a thing of the past. Deal with it.

You might be right about endless tower and those dungeons, I've usually played on patches that are before any of those are released and there's just WoE and MVPing, which can be interesting but are way less of a draw than the game itself. I used to play on a server called Dream of Midgard, it had this system where you made a merchant to sell stuff and used some @command so that it disconnected you but your merchant stayed in-game and selling, they had these "Beginner" hats for new accounts but I don't remember much else about it.

Googling it and I can't seem to find any info on it, it's like it vanished into oblivion.

Game goals wise (equips and rares), it is a grindfest like all MMOs, but the sandbox features make it fun to re-play and experiment on. This mixes great with how the game rewards your experience as player by not rail-roading you.
Story wise, there's a lot of interesting bits to discover about the world, but the actual questlines are mostly mid. When you are autistic enough tho, you do notice that there's a lot of visual storytelling for a game this old, especially in its variety of enemies.
