I don't care for names of gun's or vehicles or years of historical events, but I've noticed that these facts just permeate into my brain from playing war videogames. Is there a game featuring submarines that I can leverage for this? I need to be able to distinguish nazi uboots, and while there's a strangely large and detailed amount of information on them, and suspiciously yearning recounts of the gallant seemensch, the graphics are always grainy or wrong or ancient pixel art. My only other alternative are rare Revell kits.

In vanilla maybe (something I can't even bring myself to play anymore, really). I exclusively play mods and am having fun all the time. It feels like there's way less downtime in mods like Global Escalation, because it's designed to be less of a snoozefest, and it feels like you constantly get into firefights and there's never an issue with transportation, unlike vanilla.

PS: PR does many things better than Squad, the community was better, has better and more interesting maps, and features that, to this day, aren't a thing in Squad. (IR, planes, attack helos, Fire and Forget missiles, various eras for maps, VBIEDs)
Squad mostly looks pretty and has cool scope tech, can draw form the advantages of a modern, not reversed engineered engine and has the motherfucking Star Wars mod.

They simulate ballistics. Calculating bullet drop, speed, etc. I know that this is how it works in single player Arma and Squad 100%, but I'm not sure how it works in multiplayer exactly. Does your machine do the calculations or the server? In any case, even if all the calculations are server sided, that makes it even worse, because there can be dozens or even hundreds of players in a lobby and if the server/host's PC is gogshit (usually the case) then no matter what hardware you have it's going to run like shit. And Arma specifically will run like trash no matter what because of the shit engine.

It's mostly dead. There's still some people playing on the weekends but its not as active as before. I've always liked some of the fast ground vees, almost any of the Chevaliers were good, the AC/10 one is a banger at start. I'm also a big fan of the classic 2 ERML ATM 6 Hephaestus, it's an amazing skirmisher unit and generally fast enough to get out of the way of brawlers.

I don't play HLL, but if its anything like Post Scriptum, where MGs have big ol' tracers and muzzle flash, you don't need to be a cheater to see the big obvious "shoot me" signal broadcast across the battlefield.

MG's in HLL have tracers and it's fairly easy to pinpoint their position. They also make a pretty distinctive sound that's easy to pinpoint as well. You have to luck out and play in a server full of situationally unaware morons (or during a free weekend) to rack up ridiculous numbers of kills with an MG. It's the same thing in Squad. People in that game react to any type of small arms fire pretty quickly, which ends most attempts to flank or pull diversions behind enemy lines before you manage to do any serious damage. Which is why I like Global Escalation in Squad. It has suppressors, making it really difficult to pinpoint your exact location and flanking/saboteur activity so fucking satisfying.

Yeah, it's more difficult cause you can't grow shit and everything starts off frozen in terms of food & water; they do give you a knife immediately to start a fire which is nice.. You can eat the snow but you get lead poisoning if you do. Map is shit since it's just a modified Tanoa, but otherwise it's fun. People are in general nicer too since if you KOS you're SOL, had a group of like 7 or so just chilling out eating fish and warming up by the fire. Might just be early days though.

I haven't but apparently it's a big hit. I didn't like playing Namalsk all that much, due to the harshness of the cold, having to make fires so often, the spawn zones for players. So I dunno yet when I'll get around to it. I can't wait for a tropical dlc map or an dlc desert map. They're both different enough games that their fanbases have very little overlap. Battlezone 1 (98 redux) has much smaller unit counts, finite resources and a much bigger focus on (You)r combat skills. Battlezone 2 (combat commander) is more like a standard RTS where the focus is on map control and controlling larger groups of units. Your individual contribution is less important than in BZ1 as long as you're managing your base/economy behind you.
Personally I like BZ:CC a lot more than BZ:R and I have hooked friends on it in the past, but both games have pretty much equal fanbases (ie they're dead as fuck but with lots of mod content)

I think BZ1 had much more entertaining campaigns, and the gameplay feels faster than BZ:CC; however, BZ:CC is better for multiplayer. It's less prone to random crashes, and the MPI mode is fun for comp stomping with friends.

But the BZ:R campaigns have a special place in my heart, maybe just because of nostalgia and also it just had the "cold war cool" thing going on

Directing CAS or engaging armor with portable launchers? I get that both are easier with real people but for a quick and dirty op tard wrangling the AI is about all I have time for. Drongo's air ops has a mapclick mode that basically translates to, "Hey dude give me a gunrun/bomb on this grid, come in from the N/E/S/W".

How detailed is the infantry combat?

it's not detailed to the level of something like combat mission, but the scale is also MASSIVE compared to combat mission. the realism aspects of it are just so good, APM won't really help you here because even just giving orders has a delay depending on how far away the unit is from command units (there's a chain of command and information transmission that isn't instantaneous like most strategy games). the pacing feels REALLY good, things generally move a bit slower but then action happens fast when it happens. engagements feel realistic and are more about good positioning than spamming commands. if you're into larger scale strategy and aren't a graphics whore you'll love this. the graphics could be a bit better but they've said repeatedly it was a tradeoff for the smooth scale, and if you're playing this type of game that likely won't bug you. If this game had WARNO graphics it would basically be 10/10 for everyone IMO. i know i sound like a shill but i've been so excited for this game ALL year and the beta is SO FUCKING GOOD, there is just so much depth and replayability. A+ would recommend

I've been playing Isonzo for the free weekend and I liked it a lot. Decided to buy it so that I can experience the game properly. Right now it's just a CoD/BF fragfest, but I can see how fun it'd be with all the tactics and the coordinated pushes.

I have over 2000 hours in HLL and I needed something to scratch that itch as the community on HLL has been decreasing in quality. Nobody wants to take the time to explain new players what to do, so every game there's 10 people on each side running around the map, doing fuck all, people running away from the point as soon as they take it, losing it immediately. So now you have 10-15 players by the next point, just lost the previous point and while the team scrambles to retake the point they just lost the enemy is capturing the last point cause there's no garries there.

Will they fix the terminator AI in Arma 4? This can be somewhat mitigated by reducing the AI precision, but for whatever reason any AI on turrets are still aimbots and there's nothing you can do about it

I've seen worse playerbases. If you remind teammates to defend the objective in text/voice chat they get the hint pretty quickly.

Overall I really like Isonzo I don't have much negative to say about it. The map design is questionable at times with oddly placed map boundaries, barbed wire, and spawns. I really fucking hate when I walk into a single strand of barbed wire that's put in high traffic areas for no reason. The only truly atrocious maps are dolomiti and the new one adamello but the rest are fine. Also it being WWI instead of WWII the weapon variety is not the best.
