Anyone still play this? Can't find any threads for it, even /coopg/ on /vg/ dropped it from their pasta.Anyway, what a nice world gen amirite? First four bosses are all pretty close to each other... now I just need to find a good place to build, and then gitgud at building.
>>1452421I think valheim is pretty awesome. it's multiplayer stability needs improvement but it's a very solid game. don't know why it's not more popular
>>1455539I guess it's too slow for modern audiences? idk
>>1456912there is a grind to it. yes
>>1452421I've been playing it a bunch again, this time with mods. Currently in the mountains. I really like the world modifiers they've added, getting 2x ore makes the grind a lot better. Getting tons of bronze has always been a pain in the ass, and don't get me started on spending an entire evening filling up a longship with iron.>>1455539Players who dropped the game still like it and come back whenever there's a big update. The problem is that the updates are so slow to come out.
>>1452421I think the game phases kind of balloons in length right after moder. The shift to plains is huge. It more or less requires a whole new base, since you need to farm crops and tame animals specific to there. It's one thing to have to go far to find swamps and iron. Its another to fully transfer a base, or to build a whole new one, especially in an area where mosquitos rip new assholes frequently
>>1459176I think it's less to do with building a new base in the plains (you can just portal all the crafting stations and upgrade station mats, and it's not too hard to spawnproof a plains peninsula), but finding a yagluth vegvisir and enough totems to summon him. That stonehenge shit that's supposed to tell you where his altar's at is so needlessly rare, and since the plains generate in a giant ring, you have to essentially sail the circumference of your world to find the damn thing. I keep trying to find comfy playthroughs of the game to watch for my valheim fix since my friends dropped it due to boredom trying to find yagluth clues, and wouldn't you know it, they keep dropping it as soon as they get situated in the plains
>>1459349Its also the return to iron requirements, meaning you're back to the swamp poopsmithing again.
>>1459369Iron ore really should spawn in the mountains desu. Once you're done with silver there's no reason to go back there ever again.
>>1452421Having a break for burning out on fortress grind.>>1459524Atleast iron and copepr can be gathered in the mistlands. Except fuck traversing that place on foot. They should retool map generation a smidge to connect valleys better and have bit less water inland.
>>1459369>>1459524idk why they made plains gear and up still require iron, wouldn't black metal make more sense?>>1459700damn, seems everyone's experiencing burnout...it would've been nice if there was some sort of cart upgrade that didn't slow you down so much if you tried to walk it up a hill. something like a travois>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travois
>>1459977>some sort of cart upgrade that didn't slow you down so much if you tried to walk it up a hillThe trick is to play with a friend and have one of you harpoon the other, then one can fill their inventory with ore while the other pulls them up slopes
I always enjoy playing this with anons when the chance comes around. It's comfy to build a village with you all.
>>1460287I miss the /valg/ days. Was a lot of fun.
It's really easy to get a whole lot of nothing done, isn't it? I spent a couple hours yesterday hunting trolls on the coastline when I intended to go find a swamp, but then realized I spent all my copper on crafting station upgrades, the boat, buckler, carts, sword, and the axe instead of making a single fermentation keg. Now I have to go through the grueling process of mining another vein of copper>>1460063>The trick is to play with a friend>Having friends in 2024ha... haha...
>>1461026Yeah, I spent my last session demolishing my walls and spikes in order to upgrade to stone and get a larger area so I could fit a workshop next to my house. Ended up fucking off on a ship instead to look for mistlands while my house was undefended.Mining copper ore might be the worst part of the whole game for me. It takes way too long and you get so much more stone than ore. It was fun the first time I used a troll to mine but now it's just tedious. I'm never playing the early game again without at least 2x resources enabled in the world settings.
>>1461226I'm fine with the stone since I can just portal it back and use it later for base building, it's just the copper veins are so fucking huge but 90% of them are underground, so if you want the whole thing you have to basically excavate around the entire perimeter down to bedrock. Doesn't help that 99% of the time the vein itself is also embedded into the bedrock, so you can't even destroy it in one go by making it float like you can with silver. You have to shave off the bottom 30% or say fuck it and just carve it into more manageable pieces, which still have a bunch of terrain clipped inside. This isn't even mentioning the almost constant harassment of greydwarves even if you put up fires, which they'll just break by throwing stones or getting a brute to do itAt least you can set up a bench to repair your pickaxe under the slab.
>>1461480I always pick the copper vein that's the highest from the water table, and end up digging out a small hidey hole where I put a bed and workbench and chest eventually. But I also am super particular about bronze usage to never have to repeat the process. No copper armor, only the necessary tools and nails, and the buckler and usually the mace but sometimes I skip that
big fan, haven't played in some time. the swaamp really is the great filter. wife and I were progressing but got stumped on moder, we spawned him and only after realized we could terraform to make the fight easier, and it's pretty difficult to do with him spawned. we pick it up once in a while and train ourselves up for the fight but never quite seem to get to it.
>build grand watchtower>pair of trolls demolish it in seconds with tree clubs
>>1462372>he didn't dig an impenetrable moat around his basengmi
>>1462097I honestly love the swamp because of its atmosphere. The melancholic music and undead everywhere really sets the tone. The crypts suck, but the rest of the biome is kino.People struggling with Moder always baffled me, always seemed like one of the easiest bosses to me. Are you using health and stamina mead? What gear are you using? What about food?Silver gear is much easier to get and upgrade than iron gear, because you can fully excavate a silver vein and pop the whole thing in one go. And each one gives you a good amount of ore. A fully upgraded fang spear is only 8 silver, and it does excellent damage. The sword is amazing but takes a fuckload of ingots to fully upgrade. Draugr fang has always been a metafag bow thanks to its good damage and poison effect. For food, you should be farming onions by now so you have access to onion soup for stamina and wolf skewers for health. Last slot I normally just use sausages. For her attacks, everything she does while on the ground is highly telegraphed and can be parried with an upgraded iron shield. You won't get the parry bonus damage but at least you negate the attack. Her most dangerous attack is the icicle breath she does while in the air. Most of the time you can avoid it by just running to the side, but drink frost resistance mead just in case to reduce the damage. It also makes random drake attacks less annoying. Be sure to bring at least a couple stacks of obsidian arrows, she has a ton of health so you'll run out quickly.
>>1462430it's been a while and I said moder out of poor memory when I meant swamp guy. be just got the eggs to summon moder together but have yet to do so. based on what I've read it doesn't seem like moder will be an issue
>>1462445Oh so you meant Bonemass, alright. That one is a pain in the ass if you're not prepared, but trivial if you bring the right equipment, meaning poison resistance mead and a mace. He's resistant to slash and pierce damage so blunt and frost are the only good options. On new runs I often skip him until I have frostner. You can find silver pretty easily without the wishbone by just hitting the ground with a stagbreaker and looking for text that says "too hard".
IT GOT REMOVED FROM GAME PASS NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>1462445bonemass really is just an endurance fight, so I'd recommend using poison meads instead of the root mask since the mead has strong poison resistance, whereas the root mask only has minor resistance. I'd also recommend making/using iron maces at least upgraded to lvl2 since he's weak to blunt, and bringing along an upgraded stagbreaker or iron sledge to deal with the slimes he spawns. Other recommendations I have are to have a portal built nearby on top one of those giant unbreakable fallen logs in case one of you needs to go get your rested bonus again, or heal (you regen much faster when "resting". Also, try to level the area around the boss spawner with a hoe a little bit so you aren't stuck wading through waist deep water if you need to run away. Like the other anon said too, try to use the best foods you have; personally I use sausages, serpent stew, and onion soup. You can kinda also try to drag him onto a bonfire for a little extra damage as long as you keep it repaired, I guess? It'd require a lot of micromanaging imo
>>1462449yohoho and a bottle of rum
>>1462463turnip soup*, not onion, my bad
>>1462448some fucking retard game journo wrote an article about bonemass specifically and their strat was take lots of arrows, a thing he is specifically resistant to.
>>1462623on the one hand it's technically the safest and perfectly doable, on the other hand it's exactly the thing a journo would do
>>1462854Is it? My recollection is that he would outregen the arrows you had available at the time. Or at least would make it take hours. Did they tone down bosses?
>>1462854we tried it, it's not really viable with all the skelly spawns. trying to keep distance in this fight is a fool's errand without having terraformed, you just end up flanked and cornered by draugr and slimes
>>1462623It can work if you take a trip into the mountains and get frost arrows first, but it still takes a long time
>>1463297desu I didn't even know he had regen, the wiki didn't say anything about it, and my friend and I used fire arrows so I imagine that would've hidden the fact he had regen from us
>>1462623Wonder if they saw the "how to level bow" method and thought yes this is a perfect way to kill bonemass
>>1463297NTA but the first time I did it when the game released I just cheesed it with frost arrows and a tree base but I think they fixed that.

>>1465583>>1465715On my current world I haven't built all that much, just a dock and a house behind a simple wall. Using some modded core wood build pieces.Docks could really use an upgrade now that I have better materials.
>>1465721Docks have a path going up to the wall
>>1465725And then I just have a shitty house inside the walls. Still need to sort out crafting stations and a few more things, I just finished building the house after demolishing my previous one.Want to build a new base on a border between plains and mistlands so I can farm everything I need in one spot.

>>1465963I think a lot of it is just iteration. I find it relaxing to add a little on over a long time.
>>1465721is there any kind of solution to water damage for making docks? a material that can stay in the water without needing repairs every couple days?
>>1466065Unless you use mods to disable water damage wooden structures are fucked. A roof would protect the walkway planks but the pillars in the water will still decay over time. Waves will eventually damage the walkway too even if it's under a roof. It stops at 50% health so your dock will never be destroyed by water, but it will look ugly.Stone, black marble and grausten don't take water damage, so those are your best options.
Hey I'm very new to this game, just created a server to play with 2 or 3 bros, we're going on immersive mode (the one with no map or portals). Have any of you played in that mode before? Do you have any tips?
>>1466222Never done that myself but I suppose you should try to connect areas with paths and make road signs. Make landmarks to orient yourselves. Build your bases near the coast so that if you get lost while sailing you can hug the coast and find your way back.
>>1466047Damn, I gotta make a build like that
>>1466047I think my cpu would melt from rendering all that in the black forest
>>1466222Make "lighthouses" every so often on islands and peninsulas, with a sign that points to either the next lighthouse or your base. Doesn't need to be anything fancy, just like a campfire or a standing torch with a roof over it and maybe some walls
Does the October season allow you to do anything special other than craft the funny witch's hat?
>>1466274There's the turnip lamp, but that's it
Tried magic for a change and I gotta say this shit sucks ass compared to going unga bunga with a krom.Melee can parry and oneshot seekers while mages need to use most of their eitr to deal with a couple of them, and if they get hit once they're fucked unless they constantly keep their protection bubble active, which takes a large chunk of health and eitr to use anyway, meaning you spend most of the fight running around waiting to get more eitr so you can actually attack. Ice staff is nice for crowd control I guess, but that can be done with frost arrows anyway.
anyone else plant their trees around the deer boss and summon him to chop them all down every so often?
>>1468919no that is very silly, but also sounds like good fun. I might have to start. I've planted trees around the walls of my hill fort and what I want to do is chop them down into a contraption of barely holding pegs that I can knock a lynchpin loose from within the walls and send them rolling down on attackers
>>1469048that sounds very sovlful, but I question the viability
>>1452421Would any /v-alhei-m/ers even play on a vanilla serb if given the opportunity?
>>1469833I'm too far gone to play vanilla now desu. Manually sorting chests, grabbing exact quantities of items to craft shit, planting one crop at a time, having no inventory space thanks to armor, food, tools and mead taking up every fuckin slot, and terraforming being a pain in the ass to do properly is not something I want to go back to. Mods have completely spoiled me.
>>1469892Shame, can't relate. At least they're adding something to deal with the farming issue in the upcoming bog witch update
>>1469892I'm the same. There's a lot of really good QoL mods I don't ever see myself playing without

>>1470489Glad it helped anon. Remember that you can also pop the entire silver vein by fully excavating it.Bonemass is alright if you're prepared, but if you don't have the right meads and weapons he's a slog to fight, so I don't blame people for skipping him. Also neat building anon, I've yet do do a proper boathouse that can fit a longship under its roof. This game makes me sad, the lost potential of it, if the devs werent such lazy fucks and had some vision this game would easily be in my top 3
>>1476931I don't see any lost potential, just some misstepsOnce you get to the plains it becomes such a fucking slog trying to get past yagluth that I'd almost consider skipping him completely if doing so didn't make you completely blind in the mistlands
>>1476931Small indie dev pls understand. Unironically.I think it's much better that they take their time rather than rushing out buggy garbage like every other early access game. I'm at almost 1k hours played now and I can only think of a couple instances of buggy shit happening to some dropped items, and that was in multiplayer.
>>1476973The wisp removes so little mist that you honestly could just say fuck it and go in there without one. It could really use a buff to its radius. Even 3x larger radius would still feel somewhat small. Same with the wisp torches.Mistlands overall is a kinda shit experience desu. Seekers hit too damn hard for an enemy that frequently swarms you, so soloing the biome is fucking aids. The terrain doesn't help, it's too steep and you need a decently large and flat area to fight anything unless you use a mod that lets you attack up and down, which really needs to be implemented in the base game already. Fighting on slopes straight up doesn't fucking work.

>>1479100I have an autistic friend who always builds giant ikea sized box houses in these games (for "efficiency"), and I'm worried that if I introduce him to this game that he's gonna do the same thing, cover the roof in floor tiles and then think the game's dumb when it doesn't count as a roof, or he's gonna use the 1x1 roof caps across the entire floorplan
>>1479334Real efficiencyfagging requires making specific wings of your main building, and having things like the garden next to the cooking, the metal processing between the docks and the main storage, and the crafting in easy access to the main storage, but also the main portal room and comfort room for easy repairs. This game's surprisingly easy to get to a "aesthetic effciencyfag" layout once you realize that.

Recently started a mage-only run with some kinda gated progression and "unlocks" in order to catch up to my friends in level.I was the mage of the group when I played with my friends and the fact that I only started being a mage and gaining any levels in it in the previous biome really showed when we were doing Ashlands. So I reset the character, set up a world with a treasure room full of mage gear that I'm only allowed to grab once I complete a challenge or kill a specific boss. Eikthyr as the first boss is the only one that I kill without magic, and he "unlocks" my first magic gear, Dundr (because the lightning deer obviously has to drop the lightning staff, the rest of the stuff also follows similar logic), feather cape and Eitr hood. Unlocks stop when you reach Mistlands because that's where you naturally unlock magic. It's pretty fun so far.
Started playing this again a few days ago with a friend. I setup a dedicated server so that we could use the dev commands mod. Back tracking with heaps of ore got old fast. Any recommended mods?

I really wish this game wasnt so isolating. you either find a server that is at endgame and get demolished by bugs while exploring long abandoned bases and resourceless dungeons, play alone which is obviously isolating or fail to convince friends to join. I made a really cool house once on a server that was set up by a group im somewhat close to and ended up being the only one to ever log in despite their promises.
>>1497558That's part of the atmosphere of the game, for better or for worse. It's like minecraft in that way...I do wish dungeons would refresh their loot after like, an in-game month or something though to avoid that situation of resource shortages
>>1497676the only dungeon with respawning enemies is the infested mines but agree, only mods help with this issue
>>1497676minecraft has the benefit of the world staying the same as everyone else progresses. your pig farm will be exactly the same in its corner of the world no matter how many elytras are zipping past. too bad minecraft is completely missing the kino gear, vehicle and boss progression of valheim.
