dunno how to feel about this scrapyard mod; it looks like they put a lot of effort into it but I don't really feel like it fits risky rain at all

>>1469049I've decided to see what's up with ss2 assets since I was told SS2 weights whopping 800 mbs on your disk drive, 1/4th of the game itself with two expansions. First of all, archive is 250 mb that extracts into 800 mb mod that extracts into 1.5 gbs of raw assets. Base game assets are 1.5 gb of asset bundles that zips into 1.3 gb. This indicates that they barely compress their asset bundles, but that doesn't really matter, shit uncompresses in memory anyway. Next, this is nuChirr's texture, a whopping 2048x2048 PNG for a character that consists of mostly solid colors and a few gradients. And in the middle I put Commando's texture, barely visible 64x8 rectangle. Admittedly Commando is very simple, just a bunch of solid colors without a normal map, but most of the characters use either 512 or 1024. There are exceptions of course, Bosses use 2048 textures, but they are huge so it makes some sense (not really tho) or Merc for some reason using 2048 texture for main skin and 512 for mastery and I haven't heard a single person even saying anything about it, which speaks to me that even Hopoo was fucking retarded with his assets.Speaking of normal maps, normal maps are usually 1/8 of the main texture, so 1024 texture would get 256 normal map, nuChirr is special, she gets 1024 normal map for 1024 texture, since she only gets normal map on her mastery skin. Normal nuChirr has no normal map.And of course we can't forget shipping 250 mb asset bundle that does literally nothing because it is in-dev content. I don't know if it is actually loaded into memory or not, but if it is then that's more wasted memory. It's like they get assets from modelers and just plop them into Editor without even trying to optimise the assets via basic import settings. You don't need even 1k textures for survivors and survivor sized enemies, you don't need 1k normal map.And that's on top of overhead caused by MSU since no abstraction is free. What a shitshow.
>>1471229>SS2 is bloated garbage made by incompetent retardstell me something i don't know.
>>1471229lmao those UVs are also terrible, looks like they did smart unwrap and called it a day
if you guys spent all the time you do complaining about ss2 making your own content mod then I could be playing it by now

>>1472001isn't that was ss2u is

host when
>>1472774but it's nk approved...
>>1472820>approved by lazy nigger known for going 'ok lol do whatever' as proven by the last projecti should care why?
>>1472771Well seeing as it's apparently in large part being handled by the same freaks that are """working""" on SS2 my expectations are automatically non-existent. Massive shame honestly, Returns could've actually been worth playing with a good, finished Starstorm port, but that's clearly not happening.
>>1472834there is liderally only one person working on both projects; no crossover otherwise
>>1472840Thanks for the correction, thought it was mostly the same people since they posted about it on the same places they do SS2 stuff. Now I see it's just the project manager, though that doesn't exactly make it much better.
>>1472202ss2 is just one content mod, people could be making their own unique content instead is the point that anon is trying to make I think. It really makes ror2 feel dead when there are almost no other "major" content mods like ss2.
does anyone have a copy of special delivery 2 for ror1? it's not on rainfusion because fuck me I guess
>>1472977>It really makes ror2 feel dead when there are almost no other "major" content mods like ss2.cause this shit is dead. move the fuck on.randy scalped the game and is wearing the skin as a cheap suit and nobody in this general or anywhere else gives a milligram of a fuck.there is nothing redeemable in this new age of risky, only garbage millenial vaporware and spergouts (refer to this post)fuck what this has become.
>>1473122it's been dead here ever since sotv came out and people have been clinging onto it desperately ever since, they will never let go.
>>1472977I quite like sandswept thought it isn't finished yet, the current character is fun without being ott and the items all feel nice to play withThe scrapyard one is meant to release soon but I'm personally kind of eeeeh about it as I said earlier; doesn't really fit the risky style imo. That said it might be good from a gameplay pov and maybe the survivors will have more traditional skins or somethingApparently someone is still working on Stormsurge but idk lol, seems like vaporware if I mod can be vaporwareSlipstream isn't cancelled but I think the main guy is busy with irl shit so it won't be out for a long timeMain problem with 2 is stages are a pain in the ass to make compared to 1 so I think all of these are just survivors/items/enemies
how likely is it that someone will make a game almost identical to risky, but good
are there still bugs nowthe last update was a month ago :(
>>1473291Yes, plenty. They are just not as gamebreaking as tying physics to framerate. You won't see another update, the thing bombed that to that gigantic fuck up. And even without it, they somehow made expansion worse than SoTV with only redeeming parts of it being stages.
>>1473295I'm gonna find you Randy
>>1473295>they somehow made expansion worse than SoTV with only redeeming parts of it being stages.backporting dlc stages WHEN
>>1473385Why, physics bugs are fixes, there are plenty of jannies on thunderstore that fixed the remaining bugs and every single armchair gamedesigner has released a rebalancing mod for items, characters and\or false son.
>>1472771the fact that returns is actually attracting somewhat big mods makes me happy. I hope more people start modding it. The only other big mod i've seen is Apheleon but its pretty much just items
>>14729772 reasons, no matter how much normies try and say it, it's less replayable than sts1/returns, AND it's harder to create modded content that feels/looks good in a 3d game vs a 2d game

>>1477646On the one hand, >kickstarting a product owned by major studios that is owned by major corporation. On the other physical goods is probably the only time I give kickstarter a pass since it gives them them exact amount of copies that they need to make and usually it is not to kickstart a development but to kickstart actual physical production.
could someone give me a qrd on what happened to hopoo games
>>1477719well hopoo was a nigger and decided to sell his company and the ip to the worst company possiblethen he went to work at valve on some shitty mobaany more questions?
>>1477719>Hopoo sells the Risk of Rain IP to Gearbox.>One of the main reasons being that they want to work on smaller, independent 2D games again, like they used to.>They promptly go radio silent for quite a while, working on an unannounced game behind the scenes while everything goes to shit for Gearbox.>Seekers of the Storm comes out, it's a shitshow.>Hopoo basically says "Well, that sucks. But I still trust Gearbox!">A few days later he announces that he and Paul are actually working at Valve now.>They officially cancel their game and promptly abandon Hopoo Games as a company. So basically he just sold out again.
