why
>>

Basements are entirely pointless because of the new interior-lighting system.
Any room that doesn't have a window is pitch black during the day.
Even with cats eyes trait.

>>1571973
>Not much reason to live in a basement. In fact, nothing but downsides
So why do you live in your mom's?
>>
>>1572038
In theory, it's great, surviving the apocalypse as a basement dweller.
In practice, it's dogshit both due to the game grid system not allowing nuance, so basements are all dark (no basement windows), and also because Lemmy is a faggot who "don't want to turn the game into Minecraft" and allowing the players to dig to create an underground system, so you're stuck in a deadend below the ground.
>>

That's okay to me. Digging in a basement is lame.
>>
>>1572038
I love living underground. Also it's not just basements but tall buildings. Problem is, it's better off living in tall building than underground, as basements that i care about, aka, bunkers, is one-exit only mostly, which make it in death trap. In same time, tall buildings can park hellicopter on top, as well as have several ropes and escape roads. Also, you can break stairs, which not really help in bunkers.
>>
>>1571999
You shouldnt even make chum until sand becomes replenishable. You need it to make clay cement.

Zomboid for some reason has embraced the MMO-tier skillgrind despite having permadeath. Its really stupid especially as more and more skills get added which futher increases how many repetive tasks you need to perform.
Why are animal butchering and cooking even seperate skills? Who is going to be like "Oh hell yeah i just got to level 6 butchering, now i can get 5% more meat from the chickens i butcher" Cooking is already a bad skill to invest in, why seperate it futher?
>>
>>1572523
Exactly. The problem is that a core part of the game is a kind of "realism". That's fine, that's part of the appeal, however at any time that would interfere with a fun or interesting game mechanic, or would lead to some god awful design decision like balancing Fitness and Strength around either afk'ing watching your character do burpees or playing for 10000 hours, then you need to throw the "realism" out the window.
Is it perfectly realistic to dig Minecraft style labyrinths under your houses? Probably not, and it can still be balanced to make it harder (and thus more "realistic"), but to not allow it at all would be a monumental waste of potential.
>>
>basements
Don't forget ladders aren't a thing in vanilla, only modded. So all basements are a walkway and none are a cozy cellar type.
>>
>>1572707
Ladders will never be a thing because Lemmy hates the idea of player being able to escape zombies by climbing and living on a roof/basement. Just look at the changes to sheet ropes and farming being impossible on non-ground level while animals get arbitrarily stressed out.
>>
Is this a fucking joke? They're supposed to have come back to work on Monday, the week has ended and they have released 0 hotfixes? What the fuck? I hopped back on Zomboid after a hiatus of about 6 months to try the update and I think I genuinely dislike it. The new lighting and basements are cool, but my fucking lord are the zombie and loot spawns fucked. I had to do so much modding and change so many settings around to make the game even somewhat enjoyable it was absolutely silly. I went from having a neat modlist of 10-15 mods to having 20-30 just to get shit to work right and restore missing features, like being able to reuse cloth bandages.
The whole update's purpose seems to be to just shit on the player with goofy amounts of zombie spawns, terrible loot (that has a 50% chance of going missing!), a brand new strain system thats layered (quite badly) ontop of fatigue and exercise strain, badly implemented crafting systems and barebones farming/animal husbandry. I don't want to fucking play Stardew Valley or partake in pottery classes. I want to play a zombie survival game. Get this shit the fuck out of here. Its so absurdly jarring and just way out there in comparison to what we had before. Whoever decided these changes were a good idea needs to be fucking fired.
It feels like the game is forcing me out of urban environments of any sort with the awful zombie spawns and into the fucking woods so I can play caveman.

>Why is there about 3000 military zombies in the secret base but even after a year they haven't dispersed into the general public?

2. The doors of the secret military bunker are closed.

>>
>>1573498
The funny part is, part of the original goals for this update (Back in like 2021) was to improve the balance between skills. Either way, in my opinion; Build 42 is really highlighting the flaws of the compressed damage numbers and the random chance durability system.

A crude axe does .5 to 1.5 damage
A steel head hatchet does .7 to 1.5 damage
A two handed axe/fireaxe does .8 to 2 damage

The actual numerical difference between the three weapons are negligible. So even if the stone axe is a bit worse, it's still leagues better because you can mass produce them to the point than any "increased durability" from the steel axes is entirely lost.
>>
>>1573498
>stuff respawn every day
Tell me it's just the nature stuff like berries and stone and such, and i cannot farm things like ammo daying in same location.
>>
>>1573590
Either way it's certainly shouldn't respawn daily, weekly basis would be already improvement, in same time, there should be base increase in chance to find loot.
>>
>>1573584
90% of your kills with weapons is going to be from crits. So damage values can be a little misleading.
>>1573590
EVERYTHING re-appears daily. But ammo is so rare that you likely won't be able to sustain shooting with foraged ammo.
You stumble across a bullet or two here and there a week.
>>
>>1573354
don't be fooled, anons ITT are enjoying their anger
>>
>>1573584
Actually, to put these into more readable human numbers. A strength 5 character with 0 skill will deal about 30 HP loss to a zombie per swing with a weapon that hits for 1 damage.

So a crude stone axe (with 0 skill and 5 strength) does between 15-16 and 47 damage per hit.

A hatchet does between 21 and 47 damage per hit.

A fireaxe/axe does between 24 and 83 damage per hit.

Additionally, during this testing I've found weapon sharpness does two things. First, each time your edge loses 1 point of durability, you lose about 2% crit rate going down to the minimum of 10% depending on your skill and the weapon. Second, it doesn't seem to directly reduce damage; I can only speculate but it seems reduced edge durability instead gives you a malus to your damage rolls instead of directly giving you -x% damage.
>>
>>1573618
>90% of your kills with weapons is going to be from crits
Eh, I feel that's truer in the early game than the later game. In the early game your damage is so low per hit that you need crits to down zombies and kill them with stomps or ground attacks. But by skill level 3 you can deal like 80 damage per swing with a decent weapon like a baseball bat so you can kill zombies really fast even without crits. Though, on the flip side that same bat has like a 50/50 crit rate by that point.

I guess it depends more on if you use default settings or not, since "tough" zombies can spawn with upwards of 350 HP; so they can survive even high level crits.
>>
>>1573584
>So even if the stone axe is a bit worse, it's still leagues better because you can mass produce them
Except nobody wants to spend all day foraging to craft 5 axes that break within an hour only to repeat the process the next day and the day after.
>>
>>1573631
You can easily craft 10 axes a day, which is more than enough to handle any location a regular axe can handle.
The alternative is grinding to level 8 blacksmithing which takes way the fuck longer.
So go ahead, make steel axes, caveman chads will be wrecking shit in the meantime with their unga bunga axes.
>>
>>1573632
Or you can just collect crowbars like normal and demolish 6 gorillion hordes before one breaks.

Kek, good one anon. The game is so dead right now, not releasing any hotfix this week when it would have taken 2 days to fix half the bugs and they can just steal the code from mods if they're that lazy is the epitome of incompetence. >>
>>1573634

Paradox of poor shooter. Let's say target is shaped as criminal behind hostage. Shooter that is awful still gonna hit criminal some times given his shots mostly random. However if he land all his hits in hostage, it's clearly not because he is poor shooter, but because that's his goal.
You can't excuse malice with incompetence. Because incompetents still can make good decision by chance, but malicios ones, will always go for worst decisions.
>>
>>1573278
I think when B42 is done its gonna be enjoyable, but going forward the game is going to require a lot more tweaking of sandbox settings and QoL mods to be fun. Its really too unstable to play a long game now I think, but when they've done a few more patches and introduced their new occupation system, I'll probably play again. That's probably gonna be 6 months at least though.

Crafted axes fall apart after less than 10 zombie kills. Crowbars go through literally thousands of zombies. >>
>>1573651
>>>/pol/
>>
>>1573691
I get that the game is moving in a direction where they probably want to push you towards crafting even in the early game, but if you're playing on sensible loot settings indeed pretty much nothing could convince me to spend hours upon hours to craft shitty weapons that break after a few kills when I could just go find a claw hammer or a crowbar.
If crafting was more fun and rewarding, I could see myself grinding blacksmithing on a long run if it meant I could make a decent alternative to machetes or other long blades, but that's about it.
>>
>>1573700
What a jew you have to be to do that
>>
>>1573703
The funny thing about blacksmithing weapons is even at the highest levels, they still fall apart like normal ones. Katanas are such a fucking meme.
>>
>>1573703
Tack onto this the fact that late game zombies spawn with weapons embedded in them in such frequency (crowbars, hatchets, pipes, etc.) that you don't even need to worry about scavenging for weapons. In my long playthroughs I always end up with multiple crates of spare weapons purely from looting zombies.
>>
>>1573703
I don't entirely disagree. The pinnacle weapon of smithing, the longsword, is identical to the machete in damage with less durability and requiring two hands. So you have to grind a 7 levels of smithing and build all this infrastructure to get worse weapons than random machetes found in the world.
>>
Do people actually main crowbars? Lmao I thought that was a meme.
>>
>>1573719
You get into level 4+ of long blunt and it's one-shotting most of the time and doesn't break. What's not to like? Also handy to have if you run the mod that lets you use a crowbar for actually crowbarring shit as well

>Crafted axes fall apart after less than 10 zombie kills
The shitty crude one does, yeah. The 'large' stone axe has 375 average durability compared to the crowbar's abnormally huge 1200, but does way more damage and is also a useful tool because it's sharp.
>>
>>1573707
I'm just gonna get a mod that lets me sharpen and maintain a katana (or most any weapon) endlessly. Fucking absurd to think that or any other weapon would be destroyed by durability loss as fast as they are, I'm fucking sick of their durability system in general.
>>
>>1573756
Zomboid "Katana" are not actual high quality ones but mall-ninja ones that'll cut a zombie to pieces while absolutely fucking over the blade's integrity.
>>
>>1573750
How can you play the game without that mod (Common Sense if someone is wondering), just the prying mechanic and attaching a flashlight to your belt are things that once you try it once you'll start down the path of "why aren't these features vanilla and why is Lemmy such an obstinate faggot?".
>>
>>1573758
It's not realistic for crowbars to pry open doors, that's not what crowbars are for.
And tying a flashlight to your belt would just make it dangle, not light up the area ahead of you.

>>1573757
All katanas are the same weebshit. There's a reason weebs never partake in medieval weapon discussions, because their garbage get BTFO by European steel all the time.

Neither would a long sword. Any "proper" armor (IE chain, lamellar, gambeson, or plate) basically cannot be cut through and proper plate makes it hard to hurt someone even with something like a pollaxe or hammer.

Despite that swords are still ideal for zombies because even hits to completely non-lethal areas like the arms or chest still deal huge structural damage which makes them less threatening.

Why is the helicopter often regarded as being the 'end game' event that characters will certainly die to, when you can beat it by just walking into the woods for a few hours?...

Get the fuck away from your base if you want zombies to stay away during the helicopter then, retards.
>>
>>1573884
>Why is the helicopter often regarded as being the 'end game' event that characters will certainly die to
because it's pretty much the only random event in the entire game that brings zombies from a big area to your location
you can also just stay in your safehouse the whole time, if the helicopter doesn't see you then it doesn't follow you around and fucks off after a while, noobs don't know this so they just run out into the streets while bringing every zombie around straight to them
>>
>>1573903
When the helicopter flies around randomly I think it can still lead zombies around. Potentially to your base. It's safer to just waddle around in the streets for a few hours, ignoring zombies and leading the helicopter someplace you don't mind zombies being in.
The range of the helicopter isn't even that high really, it's like a shotgun blast. Big whoop.

Not for the new update, not right now. It needs to much tweaking and QoL mods loaded up, half of which will probably break once Lemmy starts releasing patches. Don't get me wrong, its a fun game and the map rework alone is legit great, but come back when B42 is nearing stable.

Certainly a lot better than getting a hole put in you. But honestly, a lot of people really discount structural damage when talking about killing zombies. It doesn't matter that they don't bleed out or feel pain; if you cut the tendons and ligaments in an arm or destroy half the muscle, the zombie can't use that arm.

I think the game needs a hygiene mechanic
So everyday you wake up, need to brush your teeth and wash your face (do not mistake this for the current "wash yourself" mechanic, this is completely different. Think like the hunger/caloric mechanic)
And also sleeping with the same clothes you went outside imediately makes you all the way to -100 hygiene.
Btw reaching just -10 hygiene makes your sickness level skyrocket. As well as making your actions slower.
At -50 hygiene your character starts making disgusting noises (this works like coughs and sneezes)
At -70 hygiene you get 80% speed and strenght reduction
I think this is pretty balanced and fair
(positite hygiene gives no advantages btw)
>>
>>1573686
Genuinely, I don't think so. I don't like the direction the game is currently headed in, where there is a heavy focus on crafting and animal husbandry instead of urban survival and scavenging. In order to get the game to somewhat work like B41 in terms of loot drops I have to crank the loot pretty high, turn off scavenged buildings and hope and pray I get something decent instead of a thousand metal punches or nail files or whatever else they added now.
>>
>>1575164
Imagine coming up with a hygiene mechanic and not knowing about hygiene. Brushing your teeth? You might as well add full on dental care. Cavities, gum disease, etc. Washing your face? Skin care and the whole nine yards. Sunscreen, humidity, etc. Sleeping with clothes you went outside with is fine as long as you didn't trudge through dirt and grime therefore it would have to depend on a dirtiness factor applied to clothes. You could even argue that going full wild man, no bathing, plastered in dirt and dust could adapt you back full circle where negative hygiene protects you against the forces of nature. A non-hygienic person isn't something who takes care of themselves daily, but someone aware of how the body works and what it requires to be maintained until the end. Washing your hands before you eat because it could lead to diseases, not standing knee deep in mud because that could lead to disease, and definitely not eating rotten meat.

>>
>>1574709
No, you can't. The bucket mauls and similar crafting recipes don't give you the ability to destroy like a sledgehammer, they're just useless weapons.
>>
>>1574709
an average professional blacksmith in the 90's wouldnt have the knowledge to forge a slightly bigger than average hammer
>>
>>1575256
Actually, I stand corrected; you can forge a sledge hammer head in the advanced forge. This requires you to have an advanced kiln, a hand operated press and a simple furnace at minimum.

The hand operated press requires 4 planks and 4 nails, then inside of it you need to use a wooden anvil mold (which requires 2 carpentry, a hack saw and hammer, 4 planks and 1 nail) and 8 clay to create an unfired ceramic anvil mold. You take the anvil mold to the advanced kiln, which requires 20 clay and a masonry trowel to build. Using a log and a fire source you can then fire the mold.

To which you then take that to your simple furnace (mason's trowel, 40 stone blocks and 1 bucket of concrete) and use a set of metal tongs (crafting this requires at minimum a primitive forge and needs a hammer, crude wooden tongs, a chisel suitable for metal work, this includes a knapped stone chisel, a heading tool, a unit of coal coke or charcoal and an iron/steel bar half in addition to metal working level 4) 10 units of charcoal and only charcoal, and specifically 16 steel/iron bar halves. From there you can now build your advanced forge. This requires another bucket of cement, 30 stone blocks, a wooden bucket (4 planks, 4 nails, 1 unit of wire, 2 small iron bands, small hammer, hacksaw, hammer, small handle and 2 carpentry), a log and a large bellows; which in order to craft the bellows requires 1 level in carpentry, 2 planks, 2 nails, 2 medium handles and specifically crude medium tanned leather.

Once you have your advanced forge built, you can finally forge a sledgehammer head if you have metalworking level 8; using your metal tongs, a metal working punch and metal working chisel, 1 unit of coal coke or charcoal and a pierced iron block; which requires you to forge chunks together after smelting tools down into iron chunks (4 chunks, 1 coke/charcoal, tongs and then a second recipe requiring tongs, 1 coke/charcoal and your punch to pierce it).
>>
>>1574419
>What is the alternative?

>>
>>1575291
>Large Stone Axe
Leveling up knapping is such a fucking chore
>>
>>1575290

After this is done, you simply need a long handle (plank, tree branch or wooden rod along with carving level 3, though if you have the bare minimum you'll need to repair the handle to give the sledgehammer good durability.) a knife and a hammer to assemble the sledgehammer with a recipe requiring maintenance level 1.

>Fishing Rod/Retrofitted Pole has an actual reel and can be cast decently far
>Premium Fishing Rod can be cast the most far
>Higher tier fishing equipment reduces line-strain and break-chances, allowing for larger fish to be caught
>Higher tier fishing equipment can only be found in fishing shops, camping shops and angler homes
>But regular fishing rod is much more common and you shouldn't have issues finding it, handline and other shit is only for unga bunga characters

Right now one of the biggest issues with the loot tables is that nothing 'important' spawns in any particular location. Why go to a fishing shop when you can find an end-tier fishing rod/line pretty quickly by looking in houses?

Imagine arguing about balance. You know the whole point of modding and all the settings is to do it yourself? Devs can't please everyone, much less your own slob ass. You want it? Uhhh guys, realism? Can we use ladders to escape zombies at at least?

IT WOULD BE REALISITC. WHICH IS YOUR INTENTION IF I RECALL!
>Oh right, realism! So if you want to build a sledgehammer you're going to need about fifty steps to follow and IRL weeks of grinding
>>
>>1575364
It's practically impossible to have "well thought out and implemented level of balance for it's mechanics" when the game is all about having fun the way you want it which it does well. You can make it as easy or as difficult as you want, not just health go up or down, but complete with behaviors and more specific settings. The entire point of a game like this is to "offshore those decisions to the players." If you want blue archive skins in your game, man who am I to judge. It's a zombie game, unrealistic and good survival roleplaying chum.

B42 is the result of Lemmy having limitless resources for a studio of his size. He has people make an update package for him, then prohibits that package from being updated into the official game, and then idles the team for 2 more years so he can release 3 years of bugs in one day.

The fluid system, the farm animals, that was developed 2 years ago if you look at the blogs. All Lemmy is doing is intentionally stopping the game from being developed so he can artificially manufacture the "big update".
>>
Serious question but why the fuck doesn't Lemmy release each 'chunk' of a build once it's developed? Who the hell would complain about the fishing minigame being added in between B41 and B42?
Instead the retard drops everything in a buggy fucked up mess, and then takes a two month long holiday.
>>
>>1575456
Most of those problems still remain. You can kind of bandaid it with mods that add almost all the missing content from Warband, but it still doesn't feel right. Its extra janky, very ugly and a slog to play after you get over the hump of being poor. Theres no room for RP or player driven storytelling because its all so gamified. It feels like a really bad port of a mobile game.
Zomboid feels the same way for the most part. They took a totally wrong turn during development and just fucked everything up with B42. I would have genuinely been fine with nothing changing from B41 other than basements, the lighting and multi-story buildings. Now they ruined the combat, ruined the loot distribution and it feels like they are shitting on players for no reason. It genuinely feels like they took a torch to their own product for no other reason than spite and stupidity.
>>
>>1575483
Probably because
>do small unfinished update
>people complain, file bug reports
>near endless bug reports for things that aren't finalized
>have to filter through which are real bugs to fix and which aren't
>repeat for every small unfinished update
>>
>>1575508
That's cope Lemmy, fuck off back to your censored forum.
You can release properly finished mechanics one after another.
>>
Lemmy must be absolutely unhinged and detached from reality if he seriously thinks his game has a sensible set of mechanics
>Need loot to survive
>Loot surrounded by zombies
>Therefore zombies must be killed to get loot to survive
Should we either:
>Make zombie fighting fun and balanced
>Make zombie popcount so fucking high that it's a chore and feels like shit
Hmmm well if I had the mindset of a liberal faggot who hates humanity...
>Make zombie popcount so fucking high that it's a chore and feels like shit
>>
>>1575536
>Therefore zombies must be killed to get loot to survive
This is false though. You can be a pacifist.
>>
>>1575537
>Bro just walk around for ingame days to lure zombies around with yelling and horns
>That sounds fun right?
No, not at all.
The fact the game is centered around zombie-killing also means that ultimately the builds that are most important all universally feature traits that help killing zombies. Fitness, strength, weapon skills.
Lemmy shoots himself in the foot and then complains to you about how his blood is staining his own carpet.
How about you just don't shoot yourself you faggot?
>>
>>1575537
NTA but I find pressing Q and slowly walking into the forest with a congo line of zombies behind me isn't really that fun or a sound strategy unless you live out of town and will never go to that forest again lol.
>>
>>1575537
But he's right. Even if you lead all the zombies away into a random forest; those zombies are still there and block off that avenue of approach. If you make too much noise or some metaevent happens they'll just path right back into your way again. To say nothing of stealth being entirely non-functional.
>>
>Player character doesn't know how to make a molotov
It's a fucking corked/capped bottle with a flaming rag wrapped around it and thrown like a stick grenade.
It's not that hard.
>>
>>1575591
you don't stick the rag inside? how was I supposed to know that? is the rag wet with something? it's so much more complicated!
>>
>>1575601
I know this is bait, but putting the rag inside means you're probably going to set yourself on fire when you throw it. Lmao.
>>
>>1575456
And the fixes were poorly thought out as well, and the perk system is still fucking terrible to this day, with many perks being neutered with Governor perks which make them completely useless to the player and any clan members who isn't a governor (which is most of them since having the wrong culture governor quickly causes rebellion, companions/wives are limited and your own family all belong to the same culture)
>>
>>1575472
What niggles me the most is that the "big update" has no fucking reason to exist. The only two things in this update that maybe should've been released together are animals and crafting, but literally everything else could've been released separately (and earlier!) and be totally fine. But no. That won't drum up hype for a shitty, half-baked update.
>>
>>1575632
The thing is, a big update when done well, is a huge source of hype, as they found out with B41.
B42 is neither, and it's just pissing off everyone, but Lemmy being the massive retard that he is, instead of trying to fix the mess he created and take a step back, have been a passive aggressive faggot who went on vacation out of spite.
>>
>>1575632
>>1575637
Basically Lemmy was hoping his pajeet-code Build 42 would do the same thing B41 did and have universal praise.
Instead even the most normalfag predditors are taking the piss out of it and only literal shills and bots are defending it.
You've officially fucked up when 95 IQ smoothbrains are upset.
>>
>>1575451
>Everyone was so hyped for what potential systems
sure i guess on reddit but even here we called it bull balls because from the onset we realized it was a stupid pointless update and that was before it released broken and unfinished. it was always a shit update made shittier by the fact it released broken.
>>
>Take a stroll through shrubs and shit IRL
>Maybe some scratches if you're retarded
>Maybe at worst a few small holes in shitty clothes
>Denim or anything tough all but immune to shrubs
>Take a stroll through shrubs in zomboid
>Pissed off trees lacerate your throat and you die despite having a military jacket protecting your neck
>>
So what's the reason for why fuckhuge box vans can only carry about 150 in the back? You can fit about 500kg of people in the back of those things in real life, or more.
>>
>>1575655
There are many different kinds of shrubs so this is too vague.
>>
>>1575670
Basic bitch shrubs you'd find in the woods.
Ones that the character does not identify as harmful in any way.
Walking through trees also murderizes you.
>>
Let me get this straight, some autists managed to create a pre-infection scenario that slowly turns into a zombie apocalypse.
And they did this using the remnants of NPC code left in the game and some other autist NPC mods. For free.
Meanwhile Lemmy can't even fucking figure out the easiest part, the zombies themselves?

Okay so where's the loot? Why isn't it on the zombies? The looters would've died and turned into zombies. So where's the special house that has infinite supplies? Where's the countless looter zombies covered in loot?
>U-Uhm...Look that' would be unbalanced, right? And
You wanted realism, stop being a fucking opulent fatass and quit trying to have your cake and eat it too.
>>
>>1575894
>>It's realistic that there's no loot because it was already looted when the zombie apocalypse started happening!
Given only 3 days have passed and all happen real quick in epicenter like Maldro, it's not realistic.
>>U-Uhm...Look that' would be unbalanced, right? And
Balance important but, but realism go first, if something unrealistic harm player, there must be something unrealistic that benefit him as compensation.
>>
>>1575897
It's realistic that everything is pre-looted despite there being no broken windows or open doors.
It's realistic that no loot is found on zombies or in massive numbers in houses by looters.
It's realistic that rain-water is as dangerous as bleach. THESE ARE ALL CONFIRMED FACTS.
>>
>>1575852
Muscle strain is an example of peak "extensive playtesting" because even the shills say the best thing about muscle strain is you can ignore it at high strength and weapon skill. Or that it's only as bad because of the fucked up default settings.
>>
>>1575912
Even at 9 strength and level 8 axe, you get orange muscle strain (which is a big enough debuff to turn 1 hit KO's into 2 hit KO's or worse) within a couple zombie kills. Gay.
>>
>>1575914
Depends on the weapon, orange muscle strain doesn't technically do anything on it's own. But causes pain equal to half it's intensity on each limb. Muscle strain is invisible from 0-5, and orange from 5 to 20.

Once muscle strain hits red, you begin suffering additional penalties to swing speed and damage; but the pain inflicted will cause significant damage penalties (33% at 6 pain) long before you ever actually hit the point of muscle strain actually doing anything itself. It's even worse if take breaks in between zombie kills, because the pain you suffer per swing is less than the minimum pain the game wants to inflict on you.
>>
>>1575912
>>1575914
jesus thats retarded and now traits are gay as fuck to work with

Still is too. I was one of those people who thought, well 1-2 years after release surely the game will be on par with Warband. It still isn't even close. None of the major content mods have been remade in Bannerlord, and for good reason (they kept breaking mods for so long).
>>
>>1575917
You can change the skill multipliers for every skill. Athletics and Strength at the very least are pretty standard to go 3-5x at least.
>>
It's really easy to tell that Zomboid is one of those hyper-censored communities because every piece of content made about it is some shit-tier normie meme or inside-joke.
Seriously there's no fucking discussion on how the game actually plays on any of the communities aside from fucking 4chan the fish basket weaving discussion forum of all places.
Same shit with War Thunder. Nobody talks about how the game actually plays, they just post memes and trash.
Because anybody who actually cared about the game was banned years ago for breaking some arbitrary rule like "Do not disagree with the unpaid moderation staff"
>>
>>1575944
That's kind of the case with any game subreddit though. You get shadowbanned very easily on Reddit as a whole nowadays.
>>
>>1575947
It's not just the subreddit though, the forum is completely dead with a handful of people asking to be un-banned.
The steam discussions have censored/removed threads and is equally dead.
If you looked at the community you'd assume there's only about fifty people tops playing this game.

And killing zombies is an important aspect of surviving them, since living zombies are going to try to kill you.
The combat nerf is even stupider when you consider that stealth isn't even properly implemented (and even then, it's not a stealth game, so it'll never be a main thing), that zombie pathing and behaviors are a mess and their distribution a joke.
Lemmy is such a fucking retard he basically forced the most boring meta possible because "muh hardcore game".

Tainted water (including river, lake and rainwater) gives plants the 'cursed' tag which kills them all before they mature.
Zombies that can cause the 'corpse sickness' debuff also kills plants nearby.
Farm animals of any variety including rats and other wildlife also kill plants.
Lastly plants that do not get compost will have a 75% chance of dying at farming level 0, and a 33% chance of dying at farming level 10.

Apparently farming is even less functional than I thought, because there's a fix on the workshop right now that fixes two major bugs:
Not getting any XP for harvesting your own crops, because the game fails to save the ID of the player who planted the crop and plants always having the cursed tag regardless of when you plant them.

I wish you could slap your own custom preset settings onto the difficulty menu instead of having to load them through the "sandbox" option. I managed to cobble together a working preset and modlist that makes the game more manageable in terms of loot and zombie spawns. It doesn't fix everything mind you, but it did manage to put some joy back into the game for me.
The amount of fiddling I have to do with mods and setting tweaks to get the game even semi-serviceable at this point is genuinely disheartening, especially just to get it back to B41 levels of playability.

How the fuck does this happen? How the fuck does the official, multi million dollar company with 12 employees fuck up something modders have been doing for over 6 fucking years?
>>

>How the fuck does this happen?
TIS doesn't have playtesters, nor do they play their own game.
Notice how the zomboid community discovered basically every bug in a day or two? Probably only needing a few ingame hours to find?
With proper testing methodologies that'd translate to about 5 minutes of testing.
They didn't even bother checking the items they put in the game, ingame, to see if they worked.

Zombie speeds are kinda a retarded stat because no matter how slow they are, they become fast shamblers once they're in the 'grabbing' distance.
It'd be neat if the retarded slow zombies stayed slow instead of gaining crackhead energy up close.

Yeah the chicken bug that the guy I was responding to was baffled about. The twitter post in question was from 2022. It's the only explanation when you look at how some of the new skill books, long blade and carving 2, are keyed to completely different skill.

In fairness, the propane tanks being empty is just an entirely separate bug that drains consumables super fast. Either way, the answer is the loot tables are completely fucking fucked. Go into a book store and you'll find like 6 shelves with nothing but novels and recreational books, and then 1 shelf with all of 3 skill books.

Why does it feel like way too many skills rely on other skills to function?
Something as simple as animal farming feels retarded because you need to RNG stumble across an animal trailer, hope it's not broken, and find a working car, hoping THAT is not broken either. Plus only strong cars can tow stuff now because they fucked with the torque values.
So animal husbandry relies on MECHANICS to work properly? What backwards bullshit is this? And if you don't grind mechanics quick enough, every animal on the map starves to death about a month into the game.

>>
>>1577945
The hilarious thing is him being delusional enough to say that:
"we're well within our rights to call it 1.0 after a decade and sell each update to you as content."

As if he'd have a company anymore if he even tried that.
>>
>>1577960
Companies get away with much worse.
Maybe they should do it if it would motivate them to stop fucking around.
>>
>>1577957
It's funni that almost nobody will see the new stuff because it takes tens of hours to grind and the game is designed to kill you long before you have a chance to do anything with it.
That's actually a problem with all the skills. The simplest of carpentry projects are locked behind a level that not even a professional carpenter will have at the start of the game.
>>
>>1577960
he doesn't do it because people would refuse to buy it
same thing happened to conan exiles they pulled their bullshit garbage map and battlepass + cash shop cosmetics and no one bought anything so they finally axed battlepasses recently because modders do a better job making cosmetics over the actual company

same with zomboid, mods are better than the content they're pushing
>>
>>1577964
The problem is that zomboid is unfinished. B41 is not worthy of being called a full game and B42 definitely isn't either. Rimworld and the like can do expansions because the base game is actually good.
>>
>>1577957
Jesus I didn't realize it was that dire. Multiplayer will be the real test. I fully expect that this game will not last until b43.
>>
>>1578023
I don't know if 25-30k active players is dire. Though frankly I'm not sure how B41 has such a massive following. More than a bunch of better games.
Yeah, mods and multiplayer, whatever. But I the core gameplay loop still gets stale really quickly. At least it did for me.
>>
>>1577957
They removed multiplayer with this update. Half the reason B41 brought in so many new and returning players was because multiplayer was re-added (again) with it
>>
>>1578174
B41 didn't have multiplayer for about a fucking year after release.
The wait was so bad that some dude managed to mod-in multiplayer using B40's code which was unstable but worked.
Then Lemmy permabanned him for 'hacking' and 'stealing' the game and censored any mentions of the multiplayer mod.
>>
>>1578178
So what's he gonna do about the NPCs and Day One mods then? Or is he gonna pretend they don't exist because that's literally the only thing I see people talking about when it comes to build 42.
>>
>>1578179
He'll probably let them slide if only because he knows it'd kick the hornet's nest a bit too much if he banned them.
But I assure you, he absolutely wants them banned lmao.
I got permabanned from the workshop for making a mod that allows all clothing to be repaired/patched.
>>
>>1578180
I'm leaning towards that, given how (rightfully) flat the reception was for this. Not a single soul is actually talking about build 42; they're just gushing about the NPC mod.
>>
>>1578159
>I don't know if 25-30k active players is dire
Dire in the sense that we're already back to baseline concurrent players even though B42 unstable less than a month ago. The real tell will be when they release MP/stable.
>>
>>1578202
It makes sense, given how all the landmark features and claims are unimplemented or don't function and all the same jank and problems persist from the last build. It's a backwards tumble all the way down. Multiplayer will probably "fix" it because I don't think they'll release multiplayer until they've managed to fix all the bugs. At least, unless Lemmy is actually that desperate.
>>
>>1578205
I would say I'm not surprised, but I actually am a little bit surprised that the numbers fell off again so fast. I figured the l*mmy dickriders would keep them up a little longer.
>>
>>1578218

What i dont understand is why they made the default option pitch black when there are like 3 options to make the game even darker. While it hasnt happened to me i feel like there is potential for really frustrating moments where you literally get stuck in some room and cant find a way out because you have no flashlight or the one you had ran out of battery.
Imagine you are in some massive underground complex exploring and suddenly the power everywhere or just your flashlight goes out and you are just left there completely blind trying to find your way out.
>>
>>1579797
All Lemmy had to do was make the default setting along the lines of
>Hard to see but can be navigated without cats eyes
>Cats eyes makes it a lot easier to see to the point you can fight indoors with ease
Then have for custom sandbox
>Brighter: brightness indoors is like having cats eyes without needing cats eyes, cats eyes now makes indoors almost as bright as outside
>Darker: brightness indoors is pitch black without cats eyes, with cats eyes you can navigate however
>>
>>1579797
At least underground it would make sense. Right now an above-ground room with the curtains drawn is pitch black. I'm have hope that they'll fix this though. But I'm not sure how much they understand that pitch darkness isn't actually a very common thing in any room with windows or small openings, even without artificial lights.
>>
>>1579812
Even underground it shouldn't be pitch black. If only for gameplay reasons.
It is a game and ultimately has to be playable without bullshit.
>>
>>1579812
And also nobody builds basements without windows.
>>
>>1579824
>Adds basements to the game after creating all the house assets

>Also means the basements have no windows because they were added after the fact
God damn Lemmy can't do anything right.
>>
>>1579827
That's not even the problem
The problem is that the light reflection system still fucking fucking suck
You can have a small room with a lampshade. the light from that lampshade should propagate through the whole room, because its so small. but nope, it was in a way that the light barely illuminates the bed next to it
>>
>>1579858
Obviously Zomboid needs raytracing, and require a 4090ti to run.
>>
>>1579859
It doesn't need real reflective effects. just emulated ones. They just needed to make it a little darker than it was before, not make it all pitch black if you are not directly pointing a flashlight

Why are there hundreds of Zombies at the Gun Range / Gun Supply in the middle of nowhere near Echo Creek? World Building is terrible in this game. Not a single zombie on the way there, but then suddenly there are hundreds. (With only 2 cars parked there). I killed like 50 zombies (have sit down every couple of zombies to rest) before driving back home.

>>1580013
because their idea of balancing locations with great loot is to flood them with zombies

>>
>>1580017
It wouldn't even be that bad if they balanced the game around killing hundreds of zombies. But moronically they've decided to make it so you can kill between 6 and 2 dozen, dependent on skill level, before having twiddle your thumbs waiting for strain, pain and exertion to disappear
>>
>>1580020
Yeah the issue is the game has huge hordes like a twin-stick shooter.
But each zombie individually can 1 hit KO and you can optimistically kill about ten to twenty at a time tops. And that's with good skills and equipment.
>>
>>1580020

>>
>>1580017
Pretty much
I don't see why the military base should have a bazillion (non-military) zombies on top of being in buttfuckistan and requiring a flashlight given the obligatory Day of the Dead reference
>>
>>1580026
as long as you ignore the existence of sandbox, builder and survivor presets, you will never have fun in this game
lemmy's vision for Apocalypse appears to be to make combat as annoying as possible for the player so they're forced to rely more on stealth and lures, which doesn't work at all because lures are shit and stealth is broken, so it leaves you with an inherently broken playstyle that is just frustrating to play with
>>
>>1580016
And to remove the loot in the first place by reducing the quantity and diluting the loot pool with shit items, especially in libraries where 90% of shelves will have 0 skillbooks. And to have literally HALF of the buildings on the map become looted by invisible NPCs with no way to ever recover this loot, it's not moved anywhere, just deleted.

I love the theory behind the changes, but the execution is absolute shit and full of lemmy spite against us. If we have a bazillion zeds, then the loot should be plentiful, if we're supposed to live innawoods, then crafting should be intuitive, simple and rewarding. I don't have an issue with hundreds of zeds surrounding gun stores, but we should get mountains of ammo as a reward for clearing those out. Not like guns are op anyway, they still cause muscle strain and degrade, you wouldn't be invincible in Louisville even if you had unlimited ammo.
>>
>>1580025
The problem is the game doesn't have room to play like it claims it intends to play as.

Combat still sucks on Survivor difficulty because 1hkos and muscle strain are still turned on. To say nothing of the seemingly increased exertion drain for attacks, the targeting also got made buggier and jankier.

On apocalypse, stealth is impossible because even after all these years and "Extensive playtesting" visual stealth doesn't exist, zombies will instantly spot you the moment you enter their range regardless of your sneaking skill, traits or light/fog levels. Even low fence blocking is broken at steep angles or on corners. Combat is naturally "Discouraged" because muscle strain is at maximum and it has things like multi-hit turned off. Fucking off and homesteading doesn't work, because zombies can (and will) damage all your buildings and at least 75% of the mechanics related to just fucking off into the woods are either not implemented yet or don't function. To say nothing of there being practically zero threat at all because zombie hordes don't naturally migrate.

Sandbox is frankly a setting that exists solely to deflect their bad game design decisions by saying "Well, you can change that/turn it off!". At that point, why am I even bothering with the game if I'm changing 90% of the settings so the game is less tedious and miserable?
>>
>>1580023
That's great lemmytard-kun, you just forgot to add the alternative playstyles to combat ("but it's unstable, so don't complain about not having a functional game for the next 5 years"). Stealth does not work at all, none of the announced changes in your lying blogposts are implemented, crafting sucks ass and is full of softlocks.

This one appears to be the most retarded thing if Retanaru is right, and a huge performance issue: why do zeds check 10 000 times per second in front of them? That's what makes traits like conspicuous totally pointless, because zeds do a coin toss to spot you 10k times per second and landing a single time on heads means you're spotted, influencing the coin toss to even be 90/10 instead of 50/50 changes nothing.

Just massively reduce the amounts of checks done and that will already vastly improve the game's performance.

>>
>>1580030
>then crafting should be intuitive, simple and rewarding.
Honestly, I don't get how they fucked this one up. Cataclysm:DDA (and Bright Nights by extension) have longer, and more complex recipe lists and requirements for a lot of it's stuff. But it's a million times more intuitive because the tools needed are based on a "Quality" system where tools need a certain quality attached to be suitable for a task. Which means if you need to hammer a nail, your character can use a rock, a hatchet, a proper hammer or even a big chunk of metal you pulled off a random wreck in town. Some recipes require specific items, but you can absolutely have a forge up and running, churning out metal weapons in that game within the first week (like an hour or two) of play if you focus your character around that and within the first month easily if you start from completely nothing.
>>
>Everyone and their grandma says to aim for the head when firing guns
>Except this isn't fucking true because standing zombies don't have hit-zones, and as long as the reticule is colored it'll auto aim for you
>B42's aiming system is just B41's with a fresh coat of paint
Kek
>>
>>1580041
I vaguely remember that shortly after the new build came out, Lemmy went on Reddit and made some enormous essay about how the new firing system works and said something along the lines of the headshot thing.

Though, a lot of that is probably because people realize only shotguns are the only useable firearm (still) and they very uniquely do not aim for you, you have to align the in game model up with a zombie's model in order to count as aiming for them.
>>
I just don't understand why everyone has a meltdown anytime you mention sandbox mode
lemmy's balancing of Apocalypse is all over the place and doesn't work because most of the game systems are broken and the inherent playstyle it forces you is not fun to play, pretty much everyone is aware of this so why do you still force yourself to play it and get mad at the dumb shit it changes?
It would be one thing if Apocalypse was the only playstyle available and you were forced to play it, but that's not the case here
maybe Apocalypse will be fun to play one day when everything in the game works but that's not happening for a while I think

oh shut the fuck up, it takes less than 10 minutes to go through all the in game settings, just the bare minimum of upping the XP rate to 5x, disabling infection, giving zombies senses between poor and normal, upping the car and loot spawn rates and removing muscle strain is enough to make Apocalypse 10x more enjoyable

Only sabotage can explain things like discarding items in foraging mode not giving xp when it wasn't touched upon at all, or ridiculously specific attacks against the players like tearing clothes taking 10 times longer or keys having weight.

nice larp nigger the stealth video didn't get the poster banned so why would this
>>

Because modders have already fixed most of the bugs, with most being just one line of code. Fucking hell, even skill books are bugged because they point to the wrong place, you literally just replace "aiming" with "long_blade" and that's it, bug fixed.

Actual developers who are all alone easily put out 1 patch every day to fix those small bugs on games like Elin or Stardew Valley. And here we are with an entire month of 0 real hotfixes.

There has barely been any code rewrite, and the bugs have generally nothing to do with it. Lemmy just hates us and is trying to destroy the game on purpose, it's ridiculously retarded to pretend that the entire studio suddenly became a bunch of 30 IQ niggers overnight and are just "incompetent" who can't do 1% of what they used to do.

And on r*ddit it's extremely effective because of the updoot system. If you get 10 shills to downvoot someone, real users will be overwhelmingly likely to continue because of the trend without thinking.

>>1580129
Multiplayer code is always a messy affair, ConcernedApe made all of Stardew himself but hired a company to do the networking code as it was way beyond his skills. But bugs that I personally could fix in 10 seconds, that is inexcusable. As another anon pointed out, it's also quite revealing how censored the r*ddit is because no one is talking about the game's design or balance, only shitty normie memes and inside jokes. Conceptually, it opens the door to SS13 style chemistry. Where you can mix x parts of one fluid and y parts of another fluid to get z units of a completely different, useful fluid. Which has some value; but I don't trust Indie Stone to actually go anywhere with it, much less implement it in a satisfying manner.

At the absolute bare minimum, it allows for infinitely granularity of "crafting" ingredients. Using the alcohol example still, instead of a Screwdriver needing specifically a quarter liter of vodka and a half liter of orange juice. You can make it with 1 liter vodka and 2 liters of OJ at once, or .1 liters vodka and .2 liters OJ and the code doesn't need to additionally account for every possible combination of volume you could potentially have one hand and also needs less clicks for bulk crafting of such liquids.
>>
>>1580194
That's not how it works ingame though, nothing 'mixes' it merely stacks on top of each other.
A 1L bottle with 500ml of water and 500ml of vodka isn't 1L of 'vodka-water mix' but simply a bottle containing both, and is drunk at the same time to make an illusion of mixing.
A little nitpicky but it doesn't allow for reactions or mixtures of any scientific kind.
>>
>>1580205
Gotta refer you to
>This, I do not give a single shit about being able to make some milk-water-soda-beer cocktail.
It's all fucking alcohol, you drink it to satiate thirst or make your character happier, what the fuck do cocktails add to the game? Why is larping as a bartender the single most important feature developed in the last 2 years according to lemmy?

Granularity for smelting things for forging maybe? But it all seems way too complicated for the hypotheticals we can make, not to mention this shit broke every right-click in the game and boiling water is completely broken right now.

Modders will definitely make good on it, but I agree in that I sincerely doubt Indie Stone will do anything fun with it. Maybe in a few months time we'll have some magic alchemy mod at least.
>>
>>1580226
>Maybe in a few months time we'll have some magic alchemy mod at least.
That's the issue with Zomboid, it's not that the game suffers from scope creep in the sense of too many features, it's that they want a limited number of way too complex and unwieldy features that cannot work unless the game is built from the ground-up for it.
They want to pretend they can get alchemy like potion games or NPCs like Rimworld, but those games were always designed for it. Zomboid was never meant for more than a single-player survival game against zeds, and everything tackled on top sucks in some way as a result.

It's an absolutely ludicrous weapon to use for anything other than pvp bloodsport, but apparently people have started crafting them to bash down security doors, and given how heavy and hard to use they are, giving them a boost for that purpose seems reasonable and nice reward for player ingenuity.

There's also these two completely baffling changes. Two nearly identical weapons, but one is significantly better at door smashing than the other. Also:
>Design PVP bloodsport weapon
>Remove multiplayer in the update you introduce the weapon
>>
>>1580348
This is a helldivers problem all over again. Don't nerf the rocks, buff all the other weapons so that a random stone off the floor is better than 90% of the items available.

I mean to say make it so that rocks are NOT better than a majority of weapons in the game. Because that's a big issue I'm not seeing addressed. Things like spears, and smithed swords are still completely dogshit weapons for the effort required to craft them.

Did you know that both the crude and proper swords have less durability than regular machetes? With the best quality two handed sword only giving the same damage as the machete?
>>
>>1580369
No fun allowed. Why even add blacksmithing in the first place if its shit.
>>
>>1580373
Well, if the patch notes are to be believed, they just added one of the best weapons in the game to smithing with the mace; and smithing still lets you craft axes if you jump through all the hoops required for it. Which are the best weapon category in the game.

Not going to name names, but I know of a literal free porn-game that has more depth, communication and regular (and polished) updates than this shit, and that's with a good part of the update code being done by randos working for free out of passion and a real desire to help out.

Since guns in B41 were literally reskinned long-range melee weapons, I'd wager it's a remnant of that or some sort of overflow that causes melee weapons to act like guns did, aka not have their maximum range correctly applied and instead having that of a gun. So while you're swinging a bat, the game pretty much believes you're shooting a gun, and that's what breaks the window.

I disagree. A big problem zomboid has right now is there's honestly a massive dearth of actual "survival" mechanics beyond hitting zombies with a hammer or something. There hasn't been any real crafting in the vanilla game up until now as an example. The game can benefit (keyword: can) from the mechanic if Indie Stone or modders actually do something with it.
>>
>>1580663
All they've described in blog posts up to this point has been pointless pseudo-autistic bullshit. I don't mind autistic shit like the entirety of Oxygen Not Included because the game was clearly designed for it, but in PZ it doesn't work. That's the best point this >>1580817 guy made in his video, how a lot of the existing content is deceptive. Then you realize that unlike Runescape, many skills are like alpha stage conceptual, with a few recipes or no thought behind how they should fit into the game at large.
>b-but the new skills akshually have 1000 recipes so it really is like Runescape
Well, no, because Runescape skills are all part of a cohesive whole (can only speak to 2006-scape I know nothing of nu-scape) and usually have a point to learning them. In PZ even if some of the new skills ends up getting a lot of recipes, almost all of them are useless for the way the vast majority play the game (which is going looting and exploring). If this was some Early Access game 1-2 years in the making and they were still figuring out what the game should be and pivoting in some new direction, fine, but this game has been in development and cultivated a player base for more than 10 years.

>>
>>1581199

People tolerate grinding in other games because you usually get something out of it, like non-useless items or money. You can watch more numbers go up than just the thing you're grinding, so it doesn't feel like a total waste of time and it contributes to your overall progression.
In PZ, skill grinding has absolutely no side benefits. And it doesn't help that you're always one bite away from losing it all, which makes it feel even more pointless.
I wonder if people at TIS have played other games and given serious thought to what makes them tick and keeps people coming back.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but in short, there's a difference betwen a cell population and the playable area population, as long as there are zombies in the cell, the game will keep spawning them wherever it have the space and opportunity to do so.
Most likely they just cranked the population in those area to like 5000, but since the game probably have a soft cap of 500, it'll keep shitting out zombies.

Well here's the contents of my van. There's also an M16, some rifles, some handguns and some shotguns below all that crap. Plus some of that stuff I brought with me to the raid.
Not worth it at all though, what's the point of getting all this ammo when you have to clear about 6000 zombies, and if you can clear 6000 zombies without ammo, you don't need this ammo.

No fucking fisherman does this, not a single fucking one. Lemmy go outside and do a fucking hobby that isn't jerking off to axe wounds you creep.
Same shit as paperclips, no office worker keeps a single fucking paperclip in their desk, they always have a pack of a hundred laying around.
>>
>>1581439
That's honestly barely any ammo, unless you've got a ridiculous aiming level. How many weapons did you go through killing all those zombies?
>>
>>1581442
There are packs of those things, i think hooks too now.
>>
>>1581447
I went through a fireaxe, two hatchets and half a dozen stone axes, plus about 100 5.56 rounds, 100 9mm rounds, and 120 .308 rounds.
Vast majority of kills was due to firebombs though, must've been thousands burnt to ash.
But the ammo in the van is just a tiny portion of what's in the building, there's probably about 300-400 weight in ammo there, and guns and other survival shit.
>>1581450
There 'are' packs but they are so rare that they might as well not even exist. I turned loot rarity to 'normal' and have found a single paperclip box and despite raiding MULTIPLE fishing stores haven't found a single hook box.

Sounds like more artificial gamey bullshit. There is no reason why zombies would congregate in that area except to be an obstacle to a big pile of loot. Which is also completely at odds with the rest of the loot distribution having nearly every building nonsensically empty (did you know that in 1993, only one out of 10 households owned a cooking pot?).

If you mean the spawn mechanic: It's optimization, the engine wouldn't handle having 5000 zombies active at the same time.
If you mean putting a bagillion zombies in random places, for sure. Made much worse because Lemmy, that stupid faggot, nerfed combat as well without adding anything of value to replace it.

It did in B40, where you could easily make hordes 5x larger than they are now.

Zomboid needs the map-guys to pre-place fucktons of 'default' loot around the map to incentivize exploration.
The huge gunstore should have an M60 in the back room or something that's always there.
A specific fishing shop should have an imported super high quality fishing rod only found there, and so on.

His point about the numerous skills being a mile wide and an inch deep is still spot on, unfortunately. It's funny that people think NPCs will magically solve everything, when half of the content we already have is just window dressing with nothing behind it.

I don't really understand what he means about adding animals being a business decision to draw in tons of players. For me animals was one of the less interesting promised features, and I doubt there were tons of people itching to play PZ with animals. But the wiki says it's possible!

>>1581491

Yeah, agreed. I haven't played in over a year; me and some friends hosted a public server and it was alot of fun but we lost steam after 4 months or so.

I started playing B42 about 3 weeks ago and I really had alot of fun, but the emptiness was just killing me and that week later mod looks like a buggy mess.

I reached out to some of the old zomboid friends, and we decided to host a new server in preperation for B42 multiplayer. We planned it out for over 2 weeks to try and get some solid interest before the actual launch.

Launched on 1/11, and it's actually been a blast. We have gotten alot of interest, some randoms even joined and set up the discord all nice for us. 4 days in and we are already rank 100.

All the mods and settings were (and still are being) voted on by the community. Obviously there will be some kinks in the road but I think it's worth it to get a solid community for when B42 comes out. Be cool to be in a full server where everyones input matters.

It's a Light Roleplay/PvP Server, map, vehicle, music, and QOL mods PvP is turned on in LV and is optional around the rest of the map. Would be cool if some of you all joined up and helped contribute, will be nice to kill some of you.

No profanity filter or anything like that, but keep the discord tame. I'm playing as a Nigerian and the doctor in our group actually ISNT Jewish, and hate's Jews because "They never want to pay their full doctor bill."

Probably because the big thing is the devs glaze animals as if they're a huge milestone forwards for NPCs, so a lot of people delude themselves into believing that with chickens implemented, more advanced NPCs are "just around the corner!"
>>
>>1581595
I have a cousin who lives in Vermont and got a dozen chickens for his house. They eat bugs in his (large) yard. They live in a 'chicken coup' that's just a frame with clear plastic walls.

Also chickens are incredibly dumb. Thanks to the clear plastic walls I watched as they struggled figuring out how to leave the coop and then after a few hours struggled figuring out how to re-enter it by walking along the ramp in.
>>
>>1581595
Having owned chicken, my only real concern were predators, which taught me to burrow the grid of the coop. (and not let the duty of closing the coop door to an idiot)
Feeding them has never been an issue beside maybe in winter.
Lemmy is a faggot.
>>
>>1581683

No, and that's a big problem for the game. Everything that is good about PZ is so coincidentally or through the addition of generous sandbox settings and a whole lot of patience from its player base. These people just cannot into game design, at all.
>>

I heard tell of one with extremely high zombie pop, but in all my playthroughs the only one I ever really hit up is the one west of Riverside (that used to only require a screwdriver to disassemble doors, but now I guess needs a blowtorch or something) and that one was pretty much same as always on my last playthrough.

Someone made a mod to add the buttons a few days after B42 release but the mod was removed for being "non-functional" which would "confuse players" (which sounds like overbearing bullshit).

zombies suck and the only people who play zombie sandbox survival games are autistic retards
and the only way to appease autistic retards is dumb shit like convoluted crafting and time wasting "RPG" systems

It's the kind of thing that only gets fixed if you lose everything and are forced to restart or die, and lemmy is filthy rich.
>>

Being miserable is often a pretty good motivator to fix it, but some people can be miserable for years without doing anything about it.

Maybe he'll sell the studio, start and fail some other projects, and then give up on life and sit around trolling Twitter all day.
>>
>>1583018
He'll never sell, like the jews who ruined Game of Thrones, he's way too egocentric about "this is mine" and he refuses to let anyone else get any credit. As for "trolling", he can only do so because of power, no one would ever care what the faggot say if he didn't have the power to ruin zomboid.
>>
>>1583027
I don't care if he sells it or not. It's not like he owns the idea of a zombie survival simulator. There are plenty of dwarf fortress clones, for example.
>>
>>1581706
The default infection behaviour is clear evidence of this. They insist that bites must be 100% fatal even though that completely eliminates any opportunity for infections to create a gameplay experience. The only logical thing to do when you see "bitten" is to close the game, or stash your stuff and kill yourself if you plan on spawning a new character in the same save file.
It works as a plot device in a movie, but in PZ it's just a longer and more boring way to reach the game over screen.
And reducing the infection chance in sandbox does not make this any better of a game mechanic, because it just delays quitting to when you see the sickness moodlet.

I refuse to play Project Zomboid until:
>Infections are made not retarded and boring

>Default difficulty settings are tuned and tested with an intended experience for each one. Sandbox should be necessary for advanced players only.
>Combat is challenging but rewarding, and absolutely no hitbox issues
>Loot and zombie population reflects some manner of sanity. Extremely common objects shouldn't be rare.
>Stealth is either useful in some situations or it isn't. If 1/10 zombies can see you and start following you around until you walk really far away, then it's useless.

How to fix loot 101
Dismantle stuff into a generic scrap material. We have scrap electrics so just apply that to everything. Scrap metal, scrap wood, scrap cloth, scrap plastic, etc. Then have recipes use scrap as option number 2 instead of autisticly specific shit that needs to be hard defined like long stick.
>>

NTA but that's usually what I do as well, that said probably 3/4 of the time I die it's from doing something stupid and getting cornered so I'm gonna die anyway but that's on me. I don't find anything engaging about waiting to see if the anxiety moodle pops up after every scratch. Plus it's some good emergent story telling if you get pretty badly banged up but are able to escape and then have to lay low for a few days to heal up and not venture too far.

It gives you a potentially lethal infection that generally takes away half of your health and weakens you for about a day. But you will survive unless you continue fighting or are already wounded.

These discussions always come back around to this. Should you do this if you intend to play the game and have fun? Yes, absolutely.
Is it good for the game that half the default settings on both Survivor and Apocalypse are so hostile to players most won't be able to even learn the game before they quit out of frustration? Obviously not.
>>
>>1583945
The default settings being hard isn't even a problem, games are allowed to be hard if they want to be. But hard should not be un-fun.
The issue with Zomboid's mechanics is there's no way to work around them. You brute force them until they break or you ignore them completely.
Infection cannot be 'beaten' it can only be ignored and avoided. Which is a shitty mechanic because the players don't actually do anything with infection aside from loading up a backup save or debug-removing the infection.
>>
>Devs add so many zombies to areas you cannot possibly stealth past them

You can tell B42 isn't designed for the new zombie spawns at all. In B41 because they were all spread out a lot more, you'd usually never find 500+ in the same location.
B42? There's places with about 3000 in a small area. But only 500 can be around at any point in time. So you kill 500 and 500 more pour in from the edge of your screen, even though they weren't there before.
It's fucking retarded.

Hey at least that's realistic
>>
>>1584221
That's an easy one. They're adding a bunch of skills but not finishing them. As someone said, most of the stuff in the game is a mile wide and an inch deep.
>>
>>1584214
Just went into debug. Just ripping a sweater alone won't cause muscle strain. If he did any exercise prior, that will cause muscle strain hours later, the amount varying based on how much he did.
>>
>>1583950
The thing is, the game actually lacks difficulty, so the dev resorted to short-sighted bullshit to fix it, which turns it un-fun rather than hard.
>zombies are easy to fight? Well any damage received can be a (delayed) one-shot, and now your character can't move when doing X. Cool now any minor issue with the combat system is a major one, and there's no reason to not just quit when you get scratched.
>loot is too easy to find? Crank the chance of it spawning to 0.00001%. Cool, now you can get completely fucked by RNG and have a necessary item not spawn at all.
>cars are too easy to find? Have most of them be wrecks. Cool, now cars are purely reliant on RNG, grinding Mechanic skills and picking Burglar as an occupation, but it's still piss easy once you find one.
>skills are too easy to grind? Nerf all sources of xp. Cool, now instead of grinding for 3 hours, I have to grind for 10 because there's no way around it either way.
And the new one of course
>zombies are easy to avoid by walking in the woods? Just spawn a fuckton of them in random places.
They could have easily replaced many of those issues with gameplay mechanics (having zombie roam in the direction of players activities, having cars make a lot of noise, have set loot amount but requiring maybe breaking a container, have more use for low tier skills, etc...) but instead they resort to cheap boring fixes which just makes the problems way more noticeable.
>>
>>1584239
Interesting. I figured it was ripping the thing because it went away as soon as he was done.
>>
>>1584169
Please understand, it took 3 years to write down that rant, didn't have the time to work on the game.
>>
>>1584101
Sounds to me like we need another gun skill: Gun Handling. At 0 skill guns breaks down after 100 shots to be realistic, you need 100000 shots to reach 10 skill and then it only breaks down every 200 shots. You also need to perform gun maintenance which takes an hour in-game time at least daily or the gun will jam permanently.
>>
>>1584242
It's not impossible that some weird combination of actions he did caused the strain to build up by ripping clothes. But under normal circumstances clothes ripping doesn't cause any strain.
>>
>>1584198
I don't think you should be able to rip thicker clothing without a knife, which would actually be realistic and not something people would complain about since finding a knife is a somewhat mandatory thing.
But instead we got the wanker's cramp situation and ripping anything, will give your character a crippling injury.
>>
These fucking retards can't balance their game to begin with, and then they add a muscle strain mechanic for literally every action in the game that they're gonna have to go through and balance (or not and let players do it themselves) instead of actually adding content and finishing the fucking game.

Balancing the game for MP when nobody plays vanilla MP is retarded.
The majority of people using vanilla are SP players.

No one at TIS understand how calories work
>You calories go to negative 2200, making currently hard as fuck to make you recover from it because regular food will have +30 "hunger", making you satiated, but only 200calories, usually can't even poke a recovery from your negative calories.
Eventually, if you manage to stack on butter/fish, you will excentially be in the other side, looking for berries to fix the hunger moodle, without having to eat another 9k calories fish
>>
>>1586105
I think a big issue is that everything relies on the carbs/fat multiplier to calories.
Most food has no fat/carbs in it, despite the caloric content of most foods being from those two things.
