i was carried in a game earlier by an absolutely insane mirage. he dropped 3.8k damage and 17 kills, i had something like 0.8k/5 (because i couldnt keep up with him more than anything). i actually thought he had an aimbot at one point but all his mechanics seemed solid so i think he was just really fucking good and had a lot of experience on mirage

Whenever it's Recon's turn to get an OP season, I bet they'll have something like that. You shoot anywhere in the direction of the enemy and it'll keep them marked for you.

at least that's how the csgo/cs2 thread has done it. we used to get occasionally get threads deleted for being too early, or for being "generals" which is why the thread is somewhat framed as being "esports discussion", though they seem to have gotten rid of that rule. In my experience, they tend to run off on their own the second they get the guns they want without so much as pinging, run into an enemy squad expecting to wipe them 3v1, and then get knocked in seconds and start raging before we can even get halfway to them

Any tips on how I can improve? I just started playing Apex and am not very good at it. Every time I play, I can't even kill a single person and will always die early on because everyone is just so good. Are all battle royale like this? They don't put beginners to play with other beginners?

Apex is a lot about being comfortable with every mechanic, I suggest playing the TDM/Control/Gunrun to start with along with some time in the firing range.

I wouldn't buy into tutorials on aim, it's mostly bogus.

Also this is a aim assist heavy game, if you're comfortable with controller and don't have experience with MNK to lean on I'd just get started on controller.

Do the New Player Challenges thing,
it will unlock a couple new characters and eventually give you enough tokens to purchase one.

Get to level 20 and play ranked.
Matchmaking works (slightly) better in ranked, so at lower ranks it's generally easier than pubs.
Don't worry about losing. Ranked points are useless anyway.

Try to get into fights, preferably as a third party.
It will give you some more time to aim etc. if you shoot people who are busy fighting others.
Fighting is the only way to get better at fighting.

Don't get too attached to loot. You won't keep it after the game anyway.
All you really need is a gun and some ammo, then go fight.
Fighting and dying is more fun than looting for 5 minutes and then handing over everything to the first squad you come across.

Go to options and set Communication Filter to Friends Only.
This mutes Voice and Text chat for non-friend players.
The ratio of "screaming retards who blame others for everything" to "sane-people-with-good-callouts" is too skewed to the former (it being a free game etc.)

relative to most other big shooters, apex stands out in two ways: its very mobile, and the ttk is very high.

the skill ceiling for movement is pretty high but the floor is virtually nonexistent. this isnt titanfall where you need to know movement techs to have a chance (though of course they help), its more so just that being constantly mobile is a good idea. this isnt valorant (people coming from it or cs or whatever are the reason i bring all this up in the first place) where youre punished for moving while shooting. in a gunfight, always be moving. spam ADAD and crouch if youre up close to someone. shoot while moving for cover.

conversely, given the high ttk, you need to be good at tracking people. youre not just clicking on heads and picking up kills, youre keeping your crosshair on something thats moving, often fast and unpredictably. each gun has a recoil pattern, if you want to be really sweaty you can learn these, but having an idea of how to pull against them while still tracking is probably fine.

for practicing gunfights, mixtape is good. all of that is just gunfights though. general BR gamesense stuff is also a big factor if you want wins. try to third party others, dont loiter after fights so you dont get third partied, keep an eye on the ring so youre not caught far from the safe zone, dont spend too much time looting (killing is far more efficient), get a feel for the maps - how long does moving between any two given areas take?

a lot of it is just sinking hours into the game but id say thats the very general gist of what "gitting gud" entails. the advice other anons have offered is good too. for a first legend to consider maining i think octane is decent. he has an ability to run faster thats kind of babys first movement ability, letting you cover ground/be more agile without needing tech. his jump pad is good team utility too, so by dropping that when you need to cover some ground fast you should still be of value to your team.
