>What is Bizarre MMOdventure?
This is an ongoing project from a group of anons dedicated to playing through dead MMOs.
>How does it work?
The rules so far go as follows:
>Hold a tournament-style voting contest from a list of games
>Play the game that wins the final round of votes for 2 weeks
>After each game, we alternate lists of MMOs to vote on
>A guild photoshoot will take place every saturday, check thread for pic times
>New adventure starts every other saturday, after the week 2 guild pic

You are free to recommend more games be added to the lists, and encourage people to vote on a game you want to play.

>Games we've played so far:
Phantasy Star Universe
Trickster Online
Rising Force Online

I'm gonna keep voting for shit games until I'm bored of Dragon's Dogma

Miku was too strong, now we play the mobile game. Although Toram is secretly based, so it's going to be funny when you guys realize that after calling it mobileslop for months.
>>
Is the msq the way to progress in Toram? There's conflicting info but someone said you need to progress it to unlock more maps, which is a solo experience

the msq is cancer as usual but you spend plenty of time farming bosses together or grinding mats, it's a collaborative game if you want it to be.

bet 99% of playtime is spent on tedious quests

nyuuuh please engage with my gay argument i'm so tired of quoting myself and i need yous
>>
>>1687655
>I thought questing was the entire point of MMOs?
depends on the quality. If there are few quests but well designed then I'll read and engage with them but when you get to a hub and there are fifty npcs giving you different reasons to collect rat pelts and mushrooms then the game has decided not to spend effort in that area, leading it to be a chore.

I'd be up to play a couple holes if you're still around. We could get a room going, maybe more anons will keep it up?
>>
>>1687653
>>1687655
I don't mind tedious quests as long as I'm not flooded with them to the point I get overwhelmed and don't want to do any of them. I don't mind questless mob grind either. Just make it enojyable, give me a reason to group for it, dangle a nice cosmetic reward for it, or at least give me some nice scenery to explore.
>>
>>1687671
I want to play games with you.
>>

Already played it, it's slop of the highest order.
>>
Some things to know about Toram if it wins the poll
>You can level through the MSQ or mob grinding, both are viable but it's recommended you still play through the MSQ up until a point so you can get necessary unlocks
>There's various weapons and skills that you can mix and match
>The MSQ boss fights can be replayed at either lower or higher difficulties with different rewards depending on the difficulty
>There's a "mercenary" system to where you can use an AI teammate of players you've added, guild members, or even your own alt character to party with you in the game (kinda similar to DDO's pawn system)
>You can use AI teammates of players no matter the level (you can use them to carry you through the story but up until a certain point the fights become too difficult for the AI teammate)
>There is a guild system where you can create a guild bar and renovate it, post guild quests, do guild raids (up to 16 players can participate), and guild maze which is kinda similar to FFXIV's deep dungeons but there's 1000 floors
>There's a housing system with pretty decent customization
>There's a pet taming system you can use for combat or placing pets in your housing, and there's pet fusing
>There's crafting/smithing
>There's fishing
>If an event is going on it's recommended to play it (you can do them at any level) because they have good gear drops and avatar items
>>
>>1687758
how good is the merc at healing? I like playing healer but if we're always going to have an ai doing it I'll roll something else.
>>
>>1687761
I don't really know honestly. I never used a mercenary as a healslut. The AI can actually be pretty dumb and stand in boss attack markers. This isn't an issue when you're fighting low level MSQ bosses and you have a high level mercenary, but once it gets to the higher level MSQ bosses (around 100) your mercenary has lesser odds of staying alive during the fights. Also there is an exhaustion mechanic where your mercenary gets tired the longer you use them in your party. If I remember right the more exhausted they are the less damage they do in combat. They recover when not in your party so you can just simply switch over to another mercenary. You can only use one mercenary, not have a whole party full of them. It's recommended to use friends list or guild members mercenaries because they're free to use. You can spend spina (game currency) on player mercenaries if you want.
>>
>MSQ
Is it just me or is the term MSQ being used alot more recently? I used to only hear it in ffxiv now it seems to be used in every mmo now.
>>
>>1687777
It's probably because you're hanging around these threads and it's a relevant feature in the games we play, since it determines if we're going to be allowed to play with each other.

The term has been around since 2005ish, although far fewer games had a main story back then, even wow didn't at the start iirc.

should I play that lineage server? what's the game like aside from the grinding? I got some vague idea that it has pvp and ganking but I don't know how any of that works in it
>>
>>1687848
I don't know what sort of gamer you are but if you can go in with friends and not really look stuff up on the wiki you could have a blast just exploring, even finding a new monster type hidden away in a forest somewhere was exciting for me.

If you play the game as a numbers simulator it is pretty dated unless you're into pvp because there are large scale conflicts and lots of skills. The itemisation is pretty boring, 90% of gear has no major stats just attack for weps and defense for armor.

>tl;dr
the maps are big and there's alot of terrain to cover most of the fun is the accomplishment of surviving somewhere hard, whether that's pvp or pve.

Runs the worst version of the game.
>>
I do not give a single fuck about western trash like Shartwars so count me out.
>>
>>1687906
Generally you won't get ganked unless you join a guild that gets into lots of fights, or sometimes if a party wants to take a leveling spot for themselves. When you gank someone you gain negative karma and depending on the server you can drop your gear if you die with lots of karma. If you gank a low level player you gain more karma than fighting on even terms, so most people don't bother unless they have a reason.

I'll stress again that I can't imagine anyone having a fun first experience in that game solo.

Guess it must've changed. Last time I tried a private server was around 4 years ago. I remember you had to do something with your system command and give access to your firewall.

Why is the issue that the game is "Western trash" and not being one of the top 10 highest-grossing franchises globally? You know, ruining that entire mirage of playing obscure, niche, and little-known games.

They changed the OP description just to avoid your schizoposting kek. "This is an ongoing project from a group of anons dedicated to playing through dead MMOs." I guess you can now proceed to argue if the games are dead or not.

Here's the server research for SWG:
>Finalizer
Pre-CU era server.
Purist vanilla server run by the devs of SWGEmu.
Uses SWGEmu. Setup is much easier than it looks.
Jedi class isn’t unlockable within two weeks.
Has less content than the other servers.
Doesn’t have the JTL expansion.

>SWG Restoration
https://swgr.ORC/pages/about/ (replace ORC with org)
Mix of CU and NGE era elements. Has CU combat and classes but all of NGE content, including the JTL expansion.
Lower population than the rest.(250ish)
Optimizations and QoL changes.
Jedi class isn’t unlockable within two weeks.
Single installer, no need to download and patch the game separately.

>SWG Legends
https://swglegends.com/
NGE era server.
Custom content includes features like additional housing content and a new expansion which adds Bespin, home of Cloud City to the game.
Has the most content out of all the servers.
Largest active population.(700ish)
Optimizations and QoL changes.
Jedi are unlocked from the beginning.
Accounts seem to require manual activation, though it only took about 20 minutes for me.

>Era info
There are fairly different versions of SWG based on different eras of the game.
>Pre-CU (Combat Update)
servers are true sandboxes, focusing on player-driven events and player-driven economies. They have an emphasis on player customization with a huge job roster. You level up your job by doing things relating to your professions (such as healing as a medic job, or fighting as a combat job), then mix and match your job skills with other jobs. Ideally you’d want a fairly populated server to play on, because the economy plays a large role in leveling up many jobs.

>CU
servers reflect the shortest period in SWG’s development cycle. It keeps many of the sandbox elements while altering the combat to include a more tradition level-based system instead of the old purely stat-based one. Character progression became a bit more linear as well.

>NGE (New Game Enhancements)
removed the flexible job-based progression, replacing it with predefined classes. Combat was altered from Pre-CU/CU to be faster. The progression was altered to include questlines with the aim of making the game more guided, easier, and less complex. The questlines can also be freely ignored if you want to level other ways.

Absolutely Ferentus.
The near total lack of information making every discovery new and exciting, the super welcoming community of like 6 people thrilled to see new blood entering their dead game, the unforgiving world necessitating people group up and work together... Plus glitching through walls, goating up mountainsides, and walking to the literal ends of the earth and beyond.
It might've dove off a cliff after the first week once the real, unfiltered grind settled in, but it was cool as hell up until that point. Out of all the blatant Lineage 2 clones, that one was something special.

RaiderZ - Responsive action combat. Shared open world to run into other anons, explore and goat. Only the necessary amount of quests to guide you through zones at a proper pace. Fun group content in dungeons with interesting boss mechanics. Good graphics with a nice amount of customization. Flexible and intuitive character building. Some /fa/. Nice monster/overworld design. There's probably more to praise, the game was just peak for me.
>least favorite
I'd say Scarlet Blade maybe but it crashed so much I don't think I really played it. ACE seemed grim. It's probably Fiesta or RF Online. I joined RF late, but my experience was similar in both. I wasn't very interested in either, the world didn't appeal to me and the gameplay felt a bit shallow. I hate having no agency in how you play or build your character, being pigeonholed to do exactly the same as everyone else. Everyone or almost everyone outleveled me and I didn't care enough to solo grind back up.
>favorite moment
FHX out of bounds shenanigans is up there. It's probably more 'memorable' than 'enjoyable', but the only other contender would be spending what felt like hours at a RaiderZ dungeon doing the last boss' mechanic incorrectly but in a manageable unintended way, having her be one sliver away from dying only for the servers to be reset before we manage to clear. That dungeon run will for ever be etched into my brain. Thanks to all the great anons that shared that moment with me. It was so incredibly fun.
>games you hope get voted

To a lesser degree:

Spiral Knights is honestly more of a minigame. From what I remember there's a couple hours of content before you hit the paywall. It's not a hard wall but you suddenly have to grind for 0.1% drops or some stupid shit like that. Your progress grinds to a halt.
>>
>>1688301
> the economy is dead and the market is inflated to fuck.
Will that matter with so many of us playing? How did the first wave of players get by?
>>
>inb4 we crash the server
>>
>>1688428
Essentially every item in game is made by a crafting profession of some sort. We will almost certainly need dedicated crafters if the crap on the market costs too much.
>>
>>1688402
I played it a good bit back when it launched. The whole mist system was bretty bad, but you could still convert with ingame currency. IIRC there aren't character levels, but rather equipment at different tiers. Getting top level gear wasn't too hard, I remember crafting multiple to use as costumes. It has nice dungeon/bosses. Game is comfy, I think there's much more to it than just a minigame.

When I played I remember needing some specific material to craft the next tier of equipment and that only being available through real money or small drop %. Tried running a bunch of dungeons and got one when each craft required 3 or something like that. It's been years so it could be different now but it was the Steam version with the current publisher if I'm not mistaken.
>>
Restoration for SWG would be the best imo
Pop enough for crafted gear, JTL for anons who wanna space ace combat (which is the best part of the game imo, its just Rogue Squadron in MMO) and CU so it's not total linearity of NGE
>>
>>1688541
JTL space flight gameplay is awful. If some people wanna do that then they can play it separately. Piloting needs its own character anyway.

>Bourdain, September 2012: "I’m fascinated by the Guy Fieri terror-dome they just opened up. 600 seats, something like that? 600 seats. And a gift shop. And all of these poor diners, drives and whatever, douchebags waddle in there. First of all, he single handedly turned the neighborhood into the Ed Hardy district which I’m a little pissed off about..."

>Fieri, October 2012: “Everybody’s been asking me, ‘What on earth are you going to say at Bourdain’s roast? He’s been shit-talking your name everywhere.’ And I’ve been saying, ‘Don’t you worry about me. I won’t touch him with a 10-pole, because smack-talking Bourdain would be like hitting a piñata full of shit.’ Real messy. I want everyone to understand that I’m going to be the bigger man. Jose Canseco of the food world, snaggle tooth, Lurch-looking motherfucker. No, I’m here to take the high road.”

>Favorite game played and why
ECO was my favorite, even if I didn't have anything to do or wasn't feeling like grinding (I chose a really boring class) there were always people on or I could clap by the fast-travel merchant and eventually find someone to party with.

I like the MMOs that are generally centralized to some degree and do not punish people for not being within strict level guides. Every single MMO we've played that has strict level guidelines resulted in me being left in the dust.

>Least favorite game played and why
It was that really old MMO we played a while back, I forgot the name already. The one where you start on an airship and you had to hold right click to move. I didn't get very far in that, it had everything I hate in modern MMOs

PSO1, cheesing all the bosses in the rush. Also ECO again, doing the same thing

One of the more obscure mechanics in this games are battle fatigue and wounds. As you fight and die you build wounds that you gotta recover from. Battle fatigue and blue wounds are taken care of by performers. You have to use the watch/listen action on them to get the healing. Doctors can heal your other wounds, or you can sit around in a camp or at a med center.

Another thing is that weapons and armor have stat costs. For weapons its on special attack and for armor it's when you equip it. I don't know what the meta is on these but the starting weapons cost very little stats to use which makes them kinda good?

The cost matters because you get knocked out when any of your bars gets reduced to zero by an attack. If you're spending all your bars attacking then you're in danger of getting KO'd.

Just posting this stuff hoping it will help make sense of the game even if just a bit.

best gameplay was RaiderZ, best social was ECO by a longshot, best graphix Trickster. I'd say my fav was ECO but my class was too bugged to enjoy any progression. quite simply, "had it right" with the adventure and exploration. guides were minimal that everyone was on the same page figuring out the game together
>least favorite game we've played and why
Ace Online on Galaxy Gears. gameplay was mentally tiring as I-gear having to chase around zoomies, not engaging either. progression was fucked because beginner gear was superior to everything even lvl 70+. no sit command, no emotes, it failed the RPG part of MMOs and felt more like a minigame with vertical progression. I think it could've been alright with a better server pick, GG was clearly meant for early starting old timers.

Ferentus. did not expect the level of sovl with the jankiness. teleports to the old world map, going out of bounds, first person view, player memorials, graphics were ancient but cohesive that everything felt extremely immersive. 11/10 immersion the MMO for me.

Alpha and CBT tester here that used to go by the name Knightmare. I was close with the lads that worked on this game before they got acquired by SEGA. I gave it another go a few months ago and it has become a lot more manageable to new players. They added enough missions, quests, minigames and new features to last us two weeks. The minigames in Spiral Knights (Bomber man with some additional gimmicks & PvP) are even fun enough to be included to the minigame list.

consider 9Dragons for some Wuxia gaming, which has been sorely lacking in the MMOdventuer.

Shilling DCUO
You can beat the main story in two days. Then we can do stuff like 8-man raids and PvP. There are different PvP modes like instanced-based ones that do use your gear stats but another mode that uses DC characters and it boils down to skill. There's also open world PvP (you can switch to it) and we can have fun ganking people or getting into a big PvP war with the opposite side. There's like over fucking 50 8-man raids btw. There's bases (housing) and we can visit each other's. Also the customization and seeing what people come up with would be fun.

Ddo's menu isn't that bad. Just designed for controller and jp companies don't put any effort when porting to PC. Really there's no reason why you should be limited to 4 skills other than because they didn't do the same for controllers (and even then they totally could have had more than 4 skills on controller)

DCUO is miles ahead of Champions. Champions is dog shit.
>>
>>1696001
In terms of gameplay and content, absolutely. But the Champions Online character creator was fantastic and the freedom to mix and match powersets to create your own superhero was just so good. I made by far my favorite OC donut steele superhero character from any of these capeshit MMO's in Champions. Being able to combine fire and ice powers was perfect. But otherwise, yeah, it wasn't a very good game over all. It was made by the same devs and at the same time as Star Trek Online and was clearly the redheaded step child between the two. One succeeded and got further development, and it wasn't Champions.

Every PC gamer knew what SWG was in 2003-05, especially when CU/NGE made headlines all across gaming sites in terms of outrage. Keep in mind that by 2005, the game sold over a million copies, which for a genre pre-WoW, was a remarkable feat due to how niche it was, especially for PC Gaming which was significantly smaller then it is today or even in 2010.

no offense, while I'm still playing this game, the core mechanics of the game aren't really that great (not that most of the other games we played were much better). It probably was really good in its heyday with a large population, but that could be said for most mmos. I'm only really sticking about cause of the anons that are playing and trying something new. I guess it doesn't help that I was never really a huge fan of star wars. It was always just a thing that was there for me. Nothing more than that.
>>

>>
>>1696826
>>1696955
Wrong, it just wasn't that well known.
>>
>>1697184
I don't think you have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy this, I'm enjoying the game and I've never seen any of the movies.
Even then I gotta agree the mechanics aren't great and it's far from a perfect game. PvE so far is boiling down to pressing my spin attack button 1000000000 times and standing up occasionally, and PvP is a laughable prospect in the two weeks we're here on such an established server, but even then I can't imagine it's going to be much different to regular combat.

I think what I really like about this is the flexibility allowed by the skill point system and the sheer level they've committed to it. The number of different paths you can take and the interactions between them are really interesting. I've come to realize that these flexible point buy systems are like crack to me thanks to this game.
There are also a bunch of really cool little systems here and there like the player towns and stuff that add something to do outside grinding combat which is nice, though they seem to be really time-gated even on this server where we're handed tools way beyond what we would have normally (free Master Politician for example).
In fact we've got a decent number of people who aren't even doing combat and focusing on crafting which is really cool.

I hope later down the line we get something similar (with a more palatable aesthetic and better combat) at some point. That's the dream. Though I think that's pretty much just Mabinogi at this point.
>>
>>1696972
True, but it adds a few extra hoops to jump through. Cracked clients also can't always connect to official servers.

>>1697097
SRB2Kart looks like it'd be good fun. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to run any servers, so someone else would have to handle that if we wanted to play. CSS is in a similar position.
I don't know too much about Jackbox. Just the host needs a copy, right? I wonder which pack is the best.
I'll take a look at Among Us/clones.

>>1697214
>and I've never seen any of the movies.
What the fuck. How?
>I've come to realize that these flexible point buy systems are like crack to me
You might like UO though it's system is a lot more basic where leveling up a skill takes skill points and you have a cap.
>Mabinogi
Has some similar ideas but it has no caps whatsoever it's just a forever grind game where you keep growing in power. It's also a mess of systems with no coherence to them. But it would be cool to play one of the private servers with this group.
>>
>>1697411
>What the fuck. How?
nta but same, just never gave a shit about it, looks stupid and everyone i knew who liked it was annoying
>>
>>1697411
Doesn't the fact that it was forgotten, and never talked about again, kind of prove that it sucks?
We're not exactly talking about an obscure franchise that vanished from everyone's memory; if a game called Star Wars manages to be forgotten, then it's just a bad game.
>>
>>1697422
Star Wars spergs can sure be annoying but I can't imagine not being interested about the movies if you're any bit into scifi and fantasy. Maybe I grew up in a very different environment. The movies weren't exactly new when I was a kid but they were still a big deal even before episode 1 came out.

>>1697428
>I didn't know about it
>that must mean it was forgotten
That's not how it works. You were simply ignorant.

It's more like it getting closed down, Lucas Arts and Disney wanted people not to remember it. Of course they aren't going to talk about some game that you can no longer play officially. That does not mean it was forgotten.
>>
>>1697319
How many people are even playing SWG right now? It's almost a week into it.
>>
>>1697445

Say, where do you even get this retarded idea that people who watch anime are trannies?
You live in a Western country, where every industry imaginable, whether it's video games, movies, news, books, politics, or anything else, sucks tranny cock day in and day out, will shove tranny cock down your mouth wherever you look, and despises femininity and attractiveness in women because they hurt trannies' feelings.
Yet you decide to pick on Japan and Korea, and on their games, which have the only ones that appeal to straight men.

If you like the West so much, then you like trannies. I'm not sure if you're some extreme case of gay-in-denial, or are suppressing your own troon tendencies, or what, but surely even you should realize that you make no sense.

We had to attract one of these types eventually.
But yes, this """argument""" desperately being sockpuppeted by one extremely bored autist to shit-up both threads is well past its shelf life (and has apparently devolved into generic /v/ drivel going by the posts above).

Regardless of personal opinion on any given game, the primary goal of this project is to see what might be unique about the largely-forgotten titles in question, and experience MMOs which we never would have had the chance to see for ourselves on our own separate volition otherwise. Simple as.
Camaraderie between Anon can turn even a questionable MMO into a memorable experience, as we've seen time-after-time throughout this project's run (not that (You) specifically don't know this, I'm sure you do, just speaking in general).
>>
>>1697445
>The movies weren't exactly new when I was a kid but they were still a big deal even before episode 1 came out.
I was born in 89 and even though my interest in Star Wars came up as indifferent, there was no way a child could not go throughout life without knowing or seeing the original movies. I did games like Dark Forces, Rogue Squadron, KOTOR and SWG though
>>1697428
I assume you were too young to remember the 2000's and PC gaming back then. SWG was a good game, it had a lot of potential and a very solid fanbase with 300,000 concurrent subscribers by the following year in 04, which was a lot in such a little amount of time for a niche genre that was getting its footing. Unfortunately, WoW came out in late 2004 and changed the MMO landscape (for the worse) as it started garnering in millions of subscribers within months. What was once a diverse landscape of unique games with gameplay different from the rest had investors clamoring to coattail WoW's outlier success by attempting to replicate it beat for beat. Thus Lucasarts pressured SoE to revamp SWG with the CU/NGE updates in 2005, which crippled it because Lucas Arts and SoE radically changed the game into something it was never meant to be. Eventually this killed the momentum of the game and it lingered on until Lucas Arts decided to shut it down because EA/Bioware was about to release a new MMO that was built from the ground up to being WoW clone called SWTOR in 2011.
I mean I get it, the game has been closed for 14 years. But making the claim "I never heard of it" just screams "I was too young to remember the 2000's of PC gaming" /v/ use to have threads about SWG all the time when private server communities were announced when the game was shutdown in 2011.
>>1697455
>It was an irrelevant game, it was never good, people don't miss it.
Except it wasn't irrelevant and praised for what it was. Was it grindy in some areas or had glaring bugs? Yes, but the foundation was rock solid for a sandbox game.
>>
>>1697562
I really wish every board had thread ID's like /pol/ does. Imagine how much sockpuppeting or "yeah I bet those posts were you samefagging!" would come to an end. Would it stop all of them? No, some would have such immense autism to scramble through multiple IP's to get a new ID, but it would kill 99% of them.

Funny, I've had the exact opposite experience. I can only assume you've been focused entirely on combat skill trees. For me, the "flexibility" has continually decided to slap me in the face and tell me it's actually bullshit.
>Level medic early on to deal with peoples' wounds
>Need surveying and scouting for materials to make shit
>Oh well, not a big deal, only takes like 10 points and a bit of grinding
>Realize all our dying has been destroying everyone's equips
>Level aritsan to get the repair tools
>Oops, repairing can actually fully brick gear, get fucked idiot
>Oh well, just a few more points and I can craft it instead
>Nope, get fucked, need factory crates which requires a factory
>Okay, I'll make the factory
>Nope, needs an adjacent skill within its tree to make parts to make the factory
>Fuck it I'm creature taming
>JK, you need Bio-Engineering now too :^)

It's just been a constant barrage from start to finish of dependencies on dependencies, rendering all supposed "freedom" within the skill tree obsolete. I'd much rather just pick a class at the start and be done with it than this bullshit of having pseudo-classes anyway, but not knowing that until you've invested 10 hours into a tree.

Still by /vm/ standards this shitflinging is still pretty tame and still on topic. When we start getting name drops from some random discord server I'd start getting concerned, still surprised we haven't devolved to that considering how many generals speedran that way.
>>
>>1697592
You're trying to do everything by yourself on one character which goes against the entire spirit of the game.
>>
>>1697607
I'm actually surprised almost a year into this we haven't had drama extend to in-game itself or names being dropped in hostility here. I guess it's hard for dramafags to do because of the nature of this thread. Can't start drama with someone over something game-related when we just switch to a different game every 2 weeks.
>>
>>1697772
/vm/, much like other spinoff boards for videogames before it, started out fine. But as shitposters increases with /v/, you have some who feel hungry for (you)'s but can't compete with other shitposters with their bait threads/post, thus they give /vm/ a try for more fertile grounds to act like a miserable autistic nuisance. Jannies of course don't care, especially if its not their specific thread.
>>

>Can't start drama with someone over something game-related when we just switch to a different game every 2 weeks.
I wonder if things would've stayed as nice if we stuck with the 1 month format originally proposed
>>
>>1697795
I honestly don't think it's bad right now especially when all they're doing is just giving this thread more attention. Remember when these threads were first made and there was all the shitflinging about how the strawpoll can be botted, accusing people of playing games early to get a head start, the whole "clique" accusations that have been turned into a meme at this point. These threads have been slowing down the past few months but early on we'd have a new MMOdventure thread at least once or twice a week. Just as it's already been said as long as there aren't names being dropped or trying to start shit with people in-game then there's nothing to worry about.
>>
>>1697816
I don't know but the 2 week plan was definitely a better change

Thanks for the rounds, lads! Was great getting to pal-around with the 'lot of you again.
Been waiting for Fadeout to be chosen from the minigame list for ages, a dark-horse pick to be sure. Nice to know it's still fun to mess around in all these years later. Shame to hear latency was such an issue for some of 'ya, however.
While I've unquestionably been more of a ghost than not throughout more than half this project's run, it's such a treat to know the MMOdventure is still going strong. Have continued to live in hope that I'll be able to properly commit my time towards participating again somewhere down the line.
Until then, please be well. You lads are charting one hell of a path through so many titles which would've gone thoroughly unnoticed otherwise; few other Anon could attest to being a part of something so unique while it lasts.

The early late-in-the-week voting and questionable rigging was of note; as >>1698139 said, we still have a group of the same handful of people since the start so it isn't a huge surprise that a consensus would form as they would be the majority playing each game.
The only two individuals I have personally noticed who did nothing but disrupt the thread any time that they were present were the anon who originally suggested Dragon's Dogma Online and the guy who hated all PvP games.
But on top of all this, there has been the bizarre overtly aggressive and hostile response to ANY form of critique throughout the entire project--ranging from shifting RO Online servers to complaints about the buggy mess that was Scarlet Blade--from dumbshit spoiled gay baby newfags who I can only assume have no idea how to handle being told "no" or not having their every want and command followed.

to elaborate, I haven't felt the 'anti-pvp fag's presence that much and I've personally spoken out against PvP that's balanced in the way RFO has been - where a high level player can just wreck a whole group of newbies on his own -, which makes me wonder if I'm the 'anti-pvp fag' that anon is talking about.
>>
>>1699068
I honestly don't know who the anti-pvp fag or the original ddo suggestor were supposed to be, I assumed it was a passerby from /ddg/ who wanted more anons to play with. thinking about it, we had weird discord accusations and /vg/ undesirables around the first game of the project because someone unwittingly shilled PSU to /psog/ kek, I'm impressed these threads managed to recover from that.
>>
>>1699068
I think RO Online created that person. I noticed afterward that he would rear his head when WAR discussion arose.
>>1699078
I doubt you are because he embodied your typical underageb& of spamming the same words and phrases over and over as a form of argument. He never played WAR and thought that anybody could run around to gank (player kill) people in the open world, which does not happen in WAR and did not happen during our experience.

I was considering this week's movie night to just be a rerun of last week's Hong Kong Cinema night to eat up a little at our backlog, but given that the current game is Star Wars, I figure we should hold a Sci-Fi movie night again.

Current valid titles are as follows:
>Funky Forest (Starring Evangelion's creator Hideaki Anno??? lel)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkbdakkgdpM
>Bicentennial Man
https://youtu.be/CbG3JoXU7yc?si=JEkUE3XRnFNsyidk
>Pandorum
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHqCb216LNE
>Akira
https://youtu.be/NPpDGk2U8_c?si=O3S1lPSgIj5VtNqo&t=8
>A.I.
https://youtu.be/oBUAQGwzGk0?si=227rwtQo-Phgjl8W

I imagine slotting a Star Wars film should be fairly obvious, but which one? I forget why we didn't include any Matrix films during the first Sci-Fi night on Neocron, we could watch one now maybe? Also, what other Sci-Fi films would you like added to the list? We have like ~5 slots, so feel free to give me some suggestions.

probably because everyone and their mother has already seen The Matrix five times.

I'll nominate Escape From New York (1981)
trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10OoccK7dIw
>sci-fi action directed by John Carpenter of Halloween, The Thing, The Fog, They Live etc. featuring Kurt Russel

Galaxy Of Terror (1981)
trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZlgh_dzXjk
>low budget science fiction horror produced by Roger Corman, starring Sid Haig and Robert Englund.

Interzone (1987)
there isn't really a trailer. I guess here's a clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abi64XHFZrY
>sci-fi action produced by Joe D'Amato, the italian (s)exploitation cinema master that has produced stone-cold classics such as Porno Holocaust, Erotic Nights Of the Living Dead. 2020 Texas Gladiators and Troll 2.

That might've been my line of thinking, yeah. I'm guessing we should skip on the Star Wars movie then, and should remove Akira as well to declutter a bit.

That reminds me, I've been meaning to watch Royal Space Force Wings of Honneamise since forever. Not sure if it qualifies as Sci-Fi though? Looks more like a slightly futuristic military/action film featuring a space rocket: https://youtu.be/1qI04RX5jMU?si=JDrgG3M2u1kPkQRi

If I add wings, cut the other two and add all current recs, we'd be at 10 already. 10 is already good enough for a poll, but I'll take like, 2 more recs, maybe 3 at most so other anons can chip in if they want to participate.

I think it would have worked for certain slow burn games. If we had a month for SWG we'd have a proper city and more time to unlock the jedi shit. Is there ANY fucking MMO that's worth playing long-term without FOMO being involved?
I've been playing Throne and Liberty but not because it's any good, it just feels bad to quit after investing so much time into it and I keep coping that the gooks will do a redemption arc.
I've tried many ancient MMOs but they're mostly ghost towns today. I don't even mind playing in a ghost town as long as I can have fun with my friend and maybe meet some people here and there.

I enjoy ffxi on the Horizon server, I often take breaks and then go back to it and pick up where I left off. I alternate between leveling, gathering the spells/gear/items I'll need in the future, or doing some story quests.
>>
>>1703705
Crazy you mention T&L because I just made a thread here about it.
>>
>>1703705
That's the issue, the ones that have a lot of players are the daily engagement slop. But the MMOs that have decent gameplay/story/etc are the ancient ones that peak at 50 players. What kind of gameplay are you looking for? Because there's stuff like LotRO, DDO, and GW1 that have more methodical gameplay than a modern MMO.

>>1703705
I'd recommend PSU. It's super casual to get into and the private server has an average of 100 people on it, more when there's events. Even I get on it every now and then just to run a quick mission when I'm bored.

>>1703720
I prefer something slower and methodical where you progress here and there no matter how many days you "skip".
I was considering LOTRO (private server?) and EQ2 origin server.
Not a fan of pseudo-MMOs like GW.
>>1703726
Which private server?
>>1703849
I did try it for a bit but the combat felt too hectic and downright disorienting at times when you're zooming around at light speed. It didn't feel like a MMO.

The combat loop is the only good part of this game, once you get a hang of it. Zooming at lightspeed is for efficient farming certain missions. And besides, even with 1.3k hours I hit the walls all the time and fall off the fucking map.
Arguably the best part is when you're just starting off and find a frame you like and just fuck around with new stuff.
Everything after is abhorrent.
And everything after abhorrent is woke propaganda funded by Tencent the caliber of which I have not seen before myself. Also they're fucking Canadian, so it's sort of a given.

Dungeons and Dragons Online is a pretty slow burn. Levels are less frequent and more meaningful, similar to old cRPGs. You do have to pay for the newer campaigns, but they occasionally run a promo to give some out for free. I haven't played LOTRO but it gets recommended alongside DDO

>Is there ANY fucking MMO that's worth playing long-term without FOMO being involved?
MMOs are inherently FOMO as most of the fun comes from a game being new and the rest of the fun comes from the people which makes the launch the only time you get to experience both

any game designed around endgame isn't worth playing though

>>1703886
>It didn't feel like a MMO
4 player COOP games aren't MMOs

>>1703892
for years warframe gameplay has been finding the most broken frame with an overpowered AoE clearing ability and spamming it to clear missions as fast as possible

yeah it can be pretty fun when you don't do that but the game having like 2000 hours of grind for you to do makes you hit a point where you just want to go faster

quality of new content honestly took a dive few years ago and it's not been the same since

The problem with XI is that the inevitable late joiners are going to be left behind and I doubt there will be enough for them to get their own groups going
>>
>>1706314
The game has level-sync, as long as you're level 10+ the group can sync down to that level and gain exp as if they were the same. The only issue is synchronizing mission progress, if everyone wanted to do the story missions together.

It doesn't really fit though, considering it's a mainstream game with populated servers. Maybe if we found some mid/high-rate server or something.

Yeah I definitely agree. If we decide that FFXI is an eligible game for us I think we should play on CatseyeXI over Horizon for a couple reasons that are too autistic to list unless it's gonna be useful.
But most importantly I think Horizon still doesn't have Aht Urgan for some messed up reason and I wish to play the best class in MMO history, Blue Mage.

It still doesn't, no. And likely never will, from what I've gathered.
FFXI in general remains one of those eternal "what-ifs" for this project. Both retail and private servers are great in their own rights (albeit in very different ways), but the game's just too well-known to really qualify for what we usually do here.
I know this is only tangentially related, but please do not attract the shambling corpse of /xig/. We REALLY do not want the schizos and bots infesting that place to come here. It is such a terrible mockery of what it used to be.

XIV never had a good general. I played a little bit of vanilla back in 2015, and made the mistake of visiting their general to ask a question. Some """""girl""""" namefag replied to me with a half-ass answer and when I told him that, I had at least three white knight replies within 60 seconds. None of those fuckers could answer my basic game questions but they could lash out at me for not accepting their idol's worthless answer. So no difference in quality from MMOdventure

/xig/ on /vm/, silly, not /xivg/ on /vg/.
Would argue the former is somehow even worse though, which is seriously saying something.
/xig/ has been hollowed-out to the core, with 90% of posts either being SEAs complaining about Horizon, or literal bots trying to stir streamer drama. This. It is also a game where helping others is part of the gameplay. Worries about people falling behind, needing help to do missions and such are pointless. Everyone will be leveling multiple jobs anyways.

The main problem I'd see is the 2 week limit just not really being that much time for a game like FFXI. It's a slow game.

1. Depending on your class, you start from any of the pink dots.
2. Complete the Tutorial for the speed potions.
3. Run to the Town Mayor (Star) and pick up the 2 hour EXP/MOV buff.
4. Run to the LAND gate and grind up to lvl 10 - 15 until the buff runs out. Don't bother completing quests while the buff is active. (Low exp, gold etc)
5. Complete left over quests.
6. Use the gold to change your ship into a Maintenance ship, head to the SEA port, change your crew and level SEA.

if we end up jigging, these are my suggested rules.

For game mode settings. The ones I filled in green makes things a fair bit easier while the red ones makes things a fair bit harder.
Fake edge pieces is kinda in the middle. The naming would make you think it would make things much harder, but in practice it just makes it easier to know which pieces don't belong somewhere since it's harder to differentiate between different nub shapes at a glance vs just seeing if a side has a nub or not.

There's no point in starting with scrambled pieces as the site has a way to arrange pieces by selecting all of them and holding ctrl + space. Though I guess you could disable multiselect. Up to whoever makes the room.

Rotting is really stupid, don't turn it on. It just hides the image on joined pieces after a while. Likewise sticky is also stupid. I'd also recommend don't do squares cause that's kinda just dumb. We're doing jiggies after all. Mix pieces from all sets isn't relevant unless you're doing multiple images at the same time. Instead of neatly arranging each set of pieces for each image, it just mixes them all together.

For the first few puzzles, I'd recommend against turning on rotation. While I'm okay with it, I don't want to end up with only me and a few other people playing.

Jig-chan is cheating but she's also cute. Idrc if you turn her on.

As for number of pieces, 500ish is kind of the sweet spot for being decently challenging enough while not being overbearingly long. Even back when jiggies were in full swing on v, 1k pieces could take hours depending on the image. 500 should take roughly 30mins to an hour depending on how many people are playing and how good they are. Though I wouldn't mind a 1k puzzle, just don't want to scare everyone away.
>>
>>1708300
>>1708312
It seems to be 20 minutes for 50% movespeed, you can also craft 10% attack/movespeed elixirs that last for 10 minutes but no idea how expensive those are to make.
>>
>>1708350
also if you're using librewolf, there seems to be a bug with resist fingerprinting and certain viewport sizes. Either turn it off or resize the window until the pieces show.

do we get a bag extension at some point?

We played in a group for a couple hours on a pvp server, nobody attacked us despite running past several high-level players.
Maybe they receive a penalty if they pick on lower levels, but I'm just guessing. There's not that many players anyway.

By the way, apparently:
>If two people are online on different servers, they appear offline to each other and whispering won't work.
>However, guild chat seems to work fine across servers.
>Friend list is bugged, will often not show most of your friends. Restarting the game usually solves this.

Your "real class" is in the same tree with like 4-5 extra skills that unlock and your point allocation into them is limited by your level anyway. It feels like the devs ran out of time to flesh out the classes.

>>1711016
>>1711093
This shit is why this game is dead.

>>1711078
>>1711157
Asians just love misery in their games but yeah usually the games that were sub based have much better systems. F2P games tend to be designed like mobileshit, they design in the pain points that make people want to spend money. It is also why 99% of them suck. Can't make a good game when you're trying to make the experience as shitty as possible.
>>
>>1711013
There are save spots scattered all around...
15% on every kill is a lot. Why are you so adamantly against it when it seems like you have yet to play the game? None of what you're saying matches with what we've experienced so far.
>>
>>1711197
Honestly it feels like the devs quite literally never played their game from the start. There are glaring issues that would have been immediately caught in 15 minutes of play time. Even ignoring the molasses ass pace you move at, whose genius idea was it to tie keybinds for land and sea. If you put strafe on a and d, you can't steer your ship anymore cause camera turn on land is linked to steering for some reason. Then the only fast travel between islands is also cash shop. I can understand wanting to make money, but why nickel and dime qol features?
>>
>>1711213
>but why nickel and dime qol features?
Because that is how they make these games. They probably never stopped to question should they, they just copied whatever everyone else was doing at the time.
>>
You can edit chat text colors. There's a file ChattingSystem.ini in Florensia/Bin/Setting/ that has RGB values. To find a value you can search google for color picker and google gives you a nice GUI for it.
>>
I remember playing Florensia ten billion years ago when it came out.
It felt mysterious to explore the islands and that canyon city you could sail to looked very cool.
>>
>>1711241
>canyon city
This one?
>>
>>1711250
Yeah that one. The game has a charm to it.
>>
>>1711213
>but why nickel and dime qol features?
Create the problem, sell the solution. A sales tactic as old as time, except usually IRL they can't actually create the problem and have to have enough savvy to convince you that you have one instead. It's a great shortcut to try to make money off of a dogshit product. Fortunately we've been dodging encountering this kind of thing for most of the project by sticking to private servers, but inevitably as games with only official servers get picked, we'll see the full extent of how shitty cash shop practices completely ruin these games. Just keep this in mind when you're reviewing games we play on private servers and lamenting why they seemingly died for no reason, most of them are only as fun as they are for as long as they are because the private servers let you farm all the cash shop qol that ruined those games.

And yeah, most likely the vast majority, if not all of the devs just don't even touch their own game for games like this. It tends to be the separator between the absolute cash grab shovelware that comes and goes without any real fanfare, and games like Lost Ark, BDO, DFO etc. that at least attempt to be fun even through all the cash grabs, there's probably at least a few devs on said games that play it enough to know if it's actually ever any fun.
>>
>>1711272
I wish a bunch of these games got reworked to only sell cosmetics. There might be some surprisingly decent games out there if they weren't ruined by the monetization jewery.
>>
>>1711358
that's why private servers, when available, are the best option. these games are the best when systems don't work against the players only to incentivize spending money
>>
>>1711372
or would be if private servers weren't doing the same shit

Priston Tale and Mu have servers I know are reasonable, not sure about the others.

Aurarose has a 10 player max guild size to start on both their servers and on their aura server with the significant custom content you get a ticket to boost to level 120, which will probably suck most of the adventure out of the game.

No clue about mysticrose since you have to log in to check the forum but it's probably a 10 size limit too. Someone please find a 50 slot private rose online server.
>>
>>1712198
Not sure about the servers, but Allods looks nyice.
>>
>>1712755
It's a cool game. The official server has a non P2W server with a monthly sub of like 2 bucks. Good amount of people playing there too or so I heard.
>>
>>1712573
>with the significant custom content you get a ticket to boost to level 120
That sounds awful.

I can't speak for Rose specifically but usually the experience is better when it's closer to the original with the custom stuff being related to removing the cancer or maybe increasing rates if the originals were simply too low.

>>1712798
I'm not sure how many would be willing to pay that. I'm assuming there's a P2W free server?

I'm enjoying it but monetization seems pretty bad. A lot of things, including qol features, seem to be locked behind the cash shop.

>>1713384
are you having issues launching the game? I don't mind troubleshooting with you, it's pretty potato-friendly.
>>
>>1713384
If you can't play a particular game, just join for movie/mini game nights. As the other anon mentioned, it'd be kind of annoying to have to swap back and forth between in game chat and stream chat.
>>
>>1713384
That would only really work if we had a pisscord or Matrix server which I wouldn't mind having because most of the people here are chill but it would end up being more trouble/drama than it's worth

SWG had so much more variety in gameplay, character individuality and cooperation, and impact on the world itself. It was the first game I played with this group, but I had a blast joining them in the game. Wish more MMOs would have taken cues from SWG rather than WoW.
And Star Wars is a great setting.

Haven't been here for too long but..
I had the most fun with DDO but that was because I was always a huge Dragon's dogma fan.
For games I didn't know of before I played them... I played aurakingdom a ton but that was after everyone else stopped. Then I also played dragonica a lot which was pretty neat even if the combat itself became stupid later. I'm having fun with the current game, florensia, even with it's lack of QoL.
>>
>>1715579
To be honest most of these games run out of steam very quick. Ferentus was the most fun for me and even that didn't really survive into the second week though to be fair it is an unfinished game. We ran through the content it had and the rest would've been slow grinding and maybe some world bosses at much higher levels.

The ones I regret missing are ECO and DOMO. Those look like they would be fun.
>>
>>1715579
RaiderZ, DOMO, Neocron, Warhammer, UWO were the highlights for me.

ECO was very charming and the Ferentus experience felt like the biggest adventure.
>>
>>1715579
My favorites were Dragon's Dogma, Warhammer, DOMO, ECO, and RaiderZ.
DDON has the best action, Warhammer for great PvP, DOMO is the best party grinder, ECO is chill, and RaiderZ has the best dungeons.
>>
>>1715579
Warhammer and DDON are the only ones I played for over a week

Most I only play a day or two desu

Noticing the scarcity of korean titles listed.
>>
>>1715902
What MMOs have Koreans made that could be considered good other than Ragnarok and Lineage 2? Most of the Korean games appearing in this project will be garbage.
>>

For Priston Tale, I can vouch for the pristontale.eu server as the best.
For Lineage 2, I've heard that elmorelabs is the best.
Both servers are managed by actual programmers and are stable. I haven't played on elmorelabs, but I have played on pristontale.eu. It started as a classic priston experience but has since innovated past official servers. They've incorporated many ideas from Path of Exile and other ARPGs, such as item filters, affixes/suffixes, item rarity tiers, etc. They also do "seasons," similar to PoE and Diablo. If you're looking to play priston, I recommend hopping into the next season for a heavily populated leveling experience.
My main criticism of the server/game has always been the experience boost potion. However, at least on this server, players can purchase server-wide EXP potions, which will for sure remain active for most of the first few days of a season. I still think that's pay-to-win, assuming it stacks with the personal potion, though.
They also made some changes to PvP/PK after the fourth season, which was the one I played, but I have no idea what those changes were, along with whatever other changes they did. Leveling is way faster than when I played but still, priston is grinding mobs 24/7 with a few quests here and there
>>
>>1715934

They got a new server a few weeks ago so it would be a good time to vote that in.
