You're only missing 20m exp by starting at ch6 (and you miss the worst of the backtracking + bear asses). If you start at ch8 you miss 100m, which isn't bad so it's what most people go for. It'd be a good AoE combo that's actually MP positive.

One thing to add about bow is that you can get all your main skills + buffs and util. and still have over 60-65+ SP at lvl 250, so at level cap it's very much possible to use the same character in a flex support role with a different equip. set
